Is it any good? I think dd would love to go there for the atmosphere but what does the butter beer taste like? Also, can a 16 yo order mac and cheese? She really isnt an adventurous eater.

It's wonderful! It's counter service not table service. They have basics like rotisserie chicken and salads and yes she can get mac n cheese.

Butterbeer is AMAZING. There is a frozen and a regular and I can never choose. Both are equally good. There is no alcohol in them and they taste like a butterscotchy cream soda. Very sweet but yummy.


I also recommend Mythos there. It's a wonderful table service place. We will do a very early lunch at Broomsticks and then a 4:00 at Mythos before they close.

you order from the counter.
take your ticket to the section next to it for your food pick up.

a TM will find a table for you.
you do not have to search to find one.

If you are a HP fan, Three Broomsticks is a fun place to check out. The food isn't the greatest, but it's not bad. The food choices are a little different - when I was there I sat near a family with kids and the kids did not like their food.

I don't think they care who orders the kids menu items, but beware the children's portions are pretty small and may not fill up a teen or adult. Also, I heard a couple of kids say they did not like the mac and cheese.

I had a salad with chicken on it, it was pretty good. You can also order a (good sized) fruit cup with melon and grapes, or steak fries, which picky eaters might like. I'm not a picky eater, but I don't normally eat a lot of "heavy" food, especially when it's hot and I'm doing a lot of walking, so I chose a salad over the chicken, ribs, etc.

Butterbeer is awesome. The flavor is hard to describe, you really need to try it. I like the frozen kind best. It has a cream soda-butterscotchy taste. At least get one and make everyone in your group try it, just for the experience. The frozen kind is more like a dessert than a drink.

The pear cider is also very good, if you want something that is more like a drink.

Thanks guys! I knew you all would have an answer for me. Sounds perfect. DD may be going on 16, but she eats like a 6 year old, very small portions and only a few items. Should work out fine! Dh is wondering what kinds of beer they have.

I was there yesterday There is a separate Harry Potter bar (The Hogs Head) with several types of beer on draft. There is a special Harry Potter beer and my brother really enjoyed it. They also have Fosters and some others, I wasn't looking too closely. There were 7 or 8 taps though

You can get to the bar through the restaurant if your DH wants beer with his food.

ALSO: Anticipate waiting if you want to eat at a peak time of day. There was a line out the door until 3 PM yesterday. That's fairly typical. You may be better off getting a snack earlier in the day and then getting lunch around 2:30 or 3.

FYI: Current butterbeer price is $3.25 for 16 ounces, which I think is amazing! Get it at the bar, not at the cart. The line is ALWAYS longer at the cart. Also, you can get pumpkin juice and pear cider in a PLASTIC CUP in the bar. Eliminates the fancy bottle and equally fancy bottle price $2.99 for pear cider or pumpkin juice. That is the same price as a large soda at a counter service.

When HP first opened we googled recipes for Butterbeer, and from reading on these boards it seems like its similiar to cream soda - with a bit extra thrown in, and the top has bubbles that stays, that has been described as similiar (but not) to whipping cream So yes, we are looking forward to trying it! Some say the frozen is better, some say regular, so we're going to be like others and take one of each -

we decided to skip the pumpkin juice, but I did like the description, like pumpkin pie, without chewing!

Can someone clarify this for me? Can onsite guests get in for breakfast BEFORE park opening like at WDW? Otherwise I don't understand the onsite benefit for eating breakfast here...

It all depends how many bookings they have from the Harry Potter Packages. You can check with the conceirge at your onsite hotel to see if there is space or just check with the attendant at the Three Broomsticks when you arrive for early admission.

Last week, we checked with the TM in front of Three Broomsticks to see what time they were switching to lunch.

We did not stay onsite, so we did not have early entry. It sounded like we would have been allowed in to eat breakfast there, but we were wanting to wait for lunch. He said that they do breakfast for all of the advanced reservation guests, and then let walk-ups fill in the space until the crowds die down, and then the switch to lunch takes place.

They were getting ready to switching over to lunch some time around 10AM, and the TM recommended waiting for the lunch food (adding that it is cheaper too).

Onsite guests and those who have purchased Harry Potter packages through Universal have the opportunity to make advance reservations for breakfast, thus guaranteeing they will get to have breakfast at Three Broomsticks. The restaurant is full service during breakfast time.

Offsite guests who have not purchased the package are sometimes able to walk up and get a table for breakfast, but they cannot make reservations. They are only able to get in for breakfast if there were not enough advance reservations to fill the restaurant.

Anyone can eat there at lunch or dinner, it is counter service during that time (when they are busy they also have TMs help you find a table).

Extra glad I didn't do it then - when I was making plans, I was told it was full service for breakfast . . . and the package was $50 more than without the breakfast.

Great info, everyone-- thanks! It sounds like we'll be heading there for lunch instead. If 3 Broomsticks made breakfast reservations BEFORE early entry begins, I would consider it. But since we only have one day, our gang will want to make the most of early entry by heading straight to Forbidden Journey, etc. DD's are huge HP fans, so they'll probably be too excited to eat very much that morning anyway!
