 :( :furious: Waaaaaahhh!!! The nice lady says, Oh, yes, we called and left you a message, and sent you an email (well, no message on cell or home phone, no email, and the same is true for the rest of my family--NO ONE got any message or email!) In any event, they have TOTALLY changed our trip! We were supposed to fly to St. Louis July 3, spend 2 days there, cruise St. Louis to St. Paul, spend 2 days in St. Paul at the Mall of America. Then a train to Chicago, 2 days in Chicago, and fly home from there. WRONG!!!!!! We are now cruising round trip from Cincinnati, OH. Stopping in places I've never even heard of--Maysville OH, Pt. Pleasant, WV, Marietta, OH, Louisville, KY (OK, I HAVE heard of Lousiville!), Madison, IN, and back to Cincinnati. Nothing to do with Tom Sawyer, which I made DS read. Nothing to do with all the research we've done on the places we were going. No fireworks at the St. Louis arch. No Mall of America, no train to Chicago, no Sears Tower for DS to see.

So we are scrambling to get plane tickets (at triple the price since it's only a week in advance) to Cincinnati, and our trip has been shortened from 14 days to 8. NO time with my DSis and her family (they were meeting us in St. Paul). DMom doesn't even want to go anymore, but it's past the point for refunds. I am just bummed.

So now we are trying to figure out what to do for about 4 days that we can all be together and just relax. I suggested day trips from here, but no one liked that idea. DDad wants to do Martha's Vineyard or something like that, but I doubt we'd get anything decent at the last minute.

Anyone have any ideas? Something within driving distance from NJ would probably be the best, so we wouldn't have to fly again.

I'm just so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!

Well, since you mentioned all the places that you are now going to be visiting I decided to not mind my own business and did some research on the towns that I could find.

Pt. Pleasent, WV has the Mothman Museum.http://www.mothmanmuseum.com/ Some sort of paranormal creature that supposedly exists.

Marietta, OH http://www.mariettaohio.org/ Picturesque riverboat town, where the past peacefully resides with the present.

Madison, IN http://visitmadison.org/ Recognized as “The prettiest Small Town in the Midwest” by Ladies Home Journal and “Best Preserved Town in the Midwest” by The Chicago Tribune.

Louisville, KYhttp://www.gotolouisville.com/attractions-search.aspx

Cincinnati, OH http://www.cincinnatiusa.com/

I tried Maysville, OH but I couldn't find much. I kept finding stuff for Maysville, KY.

I hope I didn't over step. I just wanted to be helpful and make you feel better.

Well heck, if you're gonna be in PA, NJ is not much farther!! And Happy Anniversary to you and DH!!

Had a crazy day. I started out by taking my 2 kids to 2 different camps 20 minutes apart. (Hmmm, no wonder my gas light just went on...) Then to the gym for an hour on the elliptical. I ramped it up to 6, with a resistance of 5, and then 6. Got a bit of a workout with that!!

Then I stopped at Michaels and AC Moore for more fake flowers to fill in the empty spots on my hanging baskets. Then up to get DD from her camp at noon. On the way home we stopped at Drug Fair for a planter, and i found beautiful cushions for my patio furniture. I've been searching for months for something I liked. Problem was, they only had 2, and I needed 6. So I called the other Drug Fair near me, and they had 3. OK, still need one. I called my friend in Hamilton, and he went to Cost Cutters (same company as DF) and they had them there. So he got me 3. I went and picked up my 3, and one for the chaise lounge, and tonite I went and got the other 2, because I want them for both sets of chairs--10 total--so I'll need to go to Cost Cutters tomorrow and get 3 more! But they were on sale, and the ones I'm replacing are 8 years old and YUCKY!!

Anyway, the dryer repairman came this afternoon, and the landscaper to give me a price on the rest of the work, and I had to go get DS from HIS camp at 3:30. In between I worked on my fake plants, whcih look quite nice. Then, I finally sat down at my computer. Had to make a couple of phone calls. One was to the cruise line to see what's up with our cruise (we leave July 3, one week from today!)

Hi guys :wave2: I've been lurking but have just been quiet just enjoying the conversations and other people's news.:goodvibes

Sorry about the trip. I hate the unexpected when it's in this form.
My DH is from Ohio and his brothers live in Cincinnati. If you want to extend your trip while you are there here are a couple of ideas:
There are some nice things to do there and some places close by if you need things to do there.
http://www.cincinnatiusa.com/ We went 2 years ago and had a blast at the Newport Aquarium-it's in a really neat area near the river.
We loved King's Island http://www.pki.com/#actions and Cedar Point http://www.cedarpoint.com/ is there too. They have buit one of those huge water park resort/hotels Whoops there are 3nearby.http://themeparks.about.com/od/indoorwaterparksphotos/ss/GreatWolfOHhotl.htm http://cocokeywaterresort.com/locations/cincinnati/index.aspx and http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/travel/ustravel/article_2050977.php
Near Cincinnati are a couple of small towns call Lebanon(BIL's live in S Lebanon) and Waynesville http://www.waynesvilleohio.com/ both famous for their antique shops.
Hope this helps.

DD and I are both sick:sick:  -really sore throats, swollen glands and a temp. DH is out of town -figures:rolleyes1 but he'd better come home with chicken soup. We are going to Doc in the Box in the morning.

I stopped getting my little pop-up notifications that someone has posted on here. :furious:

whgrn-don't know how far you are looking to drive, but how about Baltimore? Or maybe Norfolk/Virginia Beach? I know you use to be able to tour the Naval Base in Norfolk and that was pretty interesting when I was a kid. Williamsburg isn't too far away either. And I think you mentioned your dad mentioning Cape Cod. How about Plymouth, MA? I think up there, they have one of those living museums, a replica of the Mayflower, etc.

M&N-You said you toured Daytona, right? Was it on the weekend or during the week?

Well, now we're looking at Ocean City, NJ from July 13-16. Not all that exciting, but they DO have miniature golf! (that's a family vacation tradition--mini golf and ice cream!) It might just work, and, amazingly, a really nice hotel right on the beach has rooms available!

I'm tired. But too razzed up to sleep! :hyper:

Ocean City does have neat mini golf places on the boardwalk, Johnson's Caramel Corn, Kohrs ice cream, Mack and Mancos Pizza. Just tried the gelato (sp?) place near Shrivers Taffey--yum! Which hotel? The Beach Club is nice but the Port o Call's pool is nicer I think. The boardwalk is so much fun to walk or bike in the am. It's a safe place to be. You could go to the zoo near Cape May. I thought it would be fun just to ride the ferry back and forth to Lewes.

Daytona USA is open every day. We went during the week. I guess Ryan's car is on display now. Your DH would love it. I know he's doing Petty thing but you can have a chance to change a tire and be timed. I have a feeling, you may be stopping there this year.
I get the notifications in my spam folder. I got them tonight.

You guys are the BEST!!!!!!! Thank you all so much for your research, kind words, ideas, etc.

We are now booked Newark to Cincinnati and back on Delta. Thank God for LastMinuteTravel.com and the fact that I knew it existed!

So sorry you're sick! Get well soon! Dad just wants to get in and out of Cincinnati as quick as possible. but we will be there until late afternoon on the 12th, so I'll check out your links too!

We did Plymouth 3 years ago, and Mom said Williamsburg was too hot--I'd suggested that already!

We're looking at the Ocean 7 Suites. Right on the Boardwalk at 7th. Looks nice.

Ok, I figured out why I wasn't getting my little pop-up notifications. For whatever reason, it never automatically signed me in there like in usually does. :confused3

I think we may be stopping there too. For our last day at Disney, I planned on stopping at DTD and then heading home. We will have a few days that we will be able to visit DTD before we leave. So maybe for our last day, we could just get up and head to Daytona instead. Oh, decisions, decisions? :rotfl2:

Amen Brother!!!:lmao:
You're welcome, rarely does my knowledge of Cincinnati come in handy:rotfl2: It's not on my "bucket list" either, but since I have to make command showings every couple of years I look for lots of things to do. DD loves their zoo.

I will have to note LastMinuteTravel site.
Thanks!

Oh I forgot to add,
You can vist the Jim Beam distillory http://www.kyvacation.com/cgi-bin/listman/listings/l0084.html mmmmmmm..
remember, I'm visiting my in laws when I'm up there and every little bit helps:rotfl2:

A little Jim Beam might help a sore throat too.

Mom's right about Wmburg---it can be hot, hot, hot.
I think that the Ocean 7 Suites sits behind the buildings on the boardwalk. I think it used to be a Days Inn. Not positive though. If it was, I do not think they have an elevator. It's been at least 5 years since I stayed at the Days Inn. I just remember this year seeing a different sign and noticing it looked remodelled. I only walked that far down 2 times this year. They were putting more sand on the beach when I was there the beginning of June.

Racetrack: I emailed you a personalized racer. It's from Smilie Central and I cannot post them here. If you type snowglobe and search, you get lots that you can type in what you want them to say. If you figure out how to post them here, let me know.:confused3
