lighttech, I see your point exactly. I'm sure when it came time for the classes and stuff they had to do down there, the chaperones were right on it. But they also had fun things scheduled like character meals and stuff. I'm sure for some of these kids, it might be a once in a lifetime trip. I just wonder if the teacher could concentrate on the students while wondering if he got that great picture of his child and Mickey. Maybe he could, but I know it would be hard for me.

Anyways, DD has an orchestra trip comming up and we had the meeting for that last night. They must remain with their chaperones at all times so I feel alot better about this one. We got an entire booklet on the rules and regulations including a dress code. Much, much more info and I feel a whole lot better about this one.

thanks for listening everyone. :goodvibes

Pepper, I totally misread your ticker...I thought you were expecting a Disney baby too! The pregnancy chat today has completely gone to my head....

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to misread the ticker. I had to read it a couple of times. :lmao:

dreamin in pa I agree that more information should have been provided. I see that the next one is more organized. :thumbsup2

Dreamin- I agree about the chaperones. A chaperone should give his/her undivided attention to the kids they are there to watch. I'd be upset too.
:thumbsup2 I like your ticker. Will the monorail move along as you get closer?

Lighttech - Good luck w/ your party stuff. My DS is having his 6th b-day this weekend. 8 boys coming over for his Star Wars party tomorrow night. It will be a glow-in-the-dark party so we can see our homemade lightsabers. We'll compare pics next week. I'm not making his cake this time but will be making Ty Fighter cupcakes. We'll see how that turns out.

Glad to hear the next one is more organized. And, I agree about the breakfasts and stuff. I didn't think about those things. I don't think I would have had a problem w/ them wandering the parks w/ their families, but I kinda think that anything that was an organized event should have been students and chaperones only. I know I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on anything but DS if he were at a breakfast w/ me!!

Good luck! We'll definitely have to compare notes! Ours is dinosaur themed w/ a volcano cake this year. (hopefully! )

sounds like a good idea....just something kind of informal with HR people.

Even though DD just returned from her disney trip, DH and I have discussed what we would do if they offer the trip for next year. We actually decided she would not be doing the trip again unless some things will be different. Besides the fact that we only found out about them being on their own in the parks 3 weeks before the trip, we also found out when she came home that a couple of the teacher's brought their families along. One brought her husband and another brought his wife and kids. Maybe it's just me, but I feel their focus should have been completely on the students. Is this normal for chaperones to bring their entire families along? This is the first trip of this type that one of my kids have taken and maybe my expectations were different. Opinions anyone?

I think I'd be pretty upset with this. Its one thing if the teacher's spouse was another chaperone, but bringing the KIDS? No, not OK. And I'm honestly not sure how I would feel about my kid roaming though Disney without an adult WITH her every minute. I mean, she's 11!!! I think more supervision would have been appropriate. And it's totally wrong for them to spring this info on you 3 weeks before the trip, when it's too late to back out. You can bet you wouldn't have gotten your money back, and I can imagine your DD would have been quite unhappy if you decided she couldn't go after all.

Well, all's well that ends well. She's home, safe and sound, and you've learned something. And it sounds like this next trip is much more to your liking!

I think I'm glad my kids don't get invited to do trips like this. DS is going to the food pantry next week, and that's about as exciting as it gets!

Umm, not sure who Beaker is, I gather he works with pepper? He sounds a little odd to me. Hopefully harmless. Maybe just lacking in social skills?

I'm hoping the monorail moves. If it doesn't I might have to go find a new one. Or maybe find a new one when I get bored of looking at this one. I've seen so many cool ones on here lately. Oh, and please post pics from the party. DD6 loves Star Wars and would love to see them...and me too.

whgrn-yeah, 3 weeks was very short notice. But like you said, she is home safe and sound. She had a great time for the most part but I don't think it is something she will doing again. She is in the orchestra and wants to join the choir. There are only so many hours in a day and she won't be able to do everything. How are your kids doing? And how about you?

LOL, I hear you loud and clear! Wouldn't it be great if we could have a few 36 hour days thrown in just to catch up on everything?

The kids are OK. It's been tough. You can read my blog for details--I won't bore everyone with the details here. Things are getting a little better though, and i'm feeling better. I was sinking into a major depression. Got pretty scary for awhile there. I'm going in for surgery next Thursday (5/1)--going to have the skin graft to close this abdominal wound once and for all (at least that's what it's SUPPOSED to do...) Originally he said 5 days in the hospital, but now he says 1-2, which is MUCH better! So I have all that fun stuff to coordinate. Aside from that, it's pretty much the same old, same old around here. I'm just glad the weather has turned nice. I was SO tired of freezing all the time! Today it was in the upper 70s, and I'm sitting here in cropped pants and a Tshirt, wearing my beloved Crocs. THIS is the way I like it!!!

Well, off to collect DS from aftercare, then make dinner. I have a meeting tonite so we have to eat a little early. Hopefully the sitter will remember she's supposed to be here...

hi again! quick hello from here on long island where the weather is SO nice!

i got a sunburn today!! lol! isn't that soooo much better than freezing?! i do burn very easily - it's the irish in me, i just canNOT tan - but it's not the bad painful kind so i'm totally ok with it!

talk to you all later tonight, dad and brother coming for dinner soon.

Looks like it was a chatty day. It is hard to catch up when you miss a few days.
It looks like we're going to be entertained with erupting cakes, fighter cupcakes, animation drawings, and prom pics. :surfweb: Lots of good things going on.
Yes, the weather was wonderful here too. My dogwood tree is out and looks like I'll get some lilacs soon. I cannot bring any inside because they make me sneeze.
Whgrn--I told you the Killers asked about you. pixiedust: for your surgery.

evening everyone. Boards sure are exciting tonight. Don't know what to think about what is being posted. I'm sure you'll all see some of it if you're on the community board later.

magsnden-I burn all the time too, even with sunscreen. And yup, got the irish in me too. :lmao: Thankfully all my kids take after DH. He's got small bit of American Indian in him and you can certainly tell during the summer. Winter too and it's just not fair.

whgrn-going to go check out your journal. I kept meaning to but but the kids kept sucking up all my brain cells and I kept forgetting. Those darn kids.

Bopsmom-Saw on the news about the bad weather out in Texas. You ok, out there?

We're fine. Thanks for asking. The bad weather was in Dallas their bad weather comes in off the plains. I live just outside of Houston our bad comes in off the Gulf.
We get tornados sometimes but not like they do in Dallas.

Actually it's been beautiful here. I got too much sun last Sunday designing the garden. Dummy me, I always wear a hat and I made sure DD had hers but forgot my own.:confused3. I guess I was so nervous about this job.

I've got indian blood in the family too, on my Mom's side but my Dad used to peel like an onion when he got in the sun and DH is Irish too and burns.
DD takes after me, but I had her in hats as an infant. She is strawberry blonde and freckles(the cute ones over the bridge of her nose) but I started her early wearing hats since our sun is so intense down here. I also put her in 'rash shirts' the surfer-style shirts to protect her shoulders and back and she still wears them in the water.

I think I found a troll...thread: You have nothing better to do? by someone with 2 posts (both of them on this thread-the only one actually) and whose name is Acrylic nails. I was going to say something sarcastic about nails but decided to leave it alone. :rolleyes1 They can kill their own thread! I'm not saving that one.

Thanks for the warning. Someone had said about people posting to cause trouble and I thought that sounded like one.
I just was reading about making scrapbooks out of paperbags. I would have to do it to understand. Sounds easier to get a cheap one from Michaels.
I'm meeting friends at 6:30 for breakfast. Rise and shine!

DD is the same way--blonde, blue eyed, and oh-so-fair skinned. I slather her with the SPF 45 or 50, keep her out of the sun at mid-day, make her wear a hat and sunglasses, and do the rash guard shirts. 10 minutes in the sun at noon will burn her to a crisp!

M&N-don't reply to any of those type of threads you see on here for the next couple of days. Alot of people have been banned in the past week and there's a whole big mess going on. Webmaster Alex posted earlier with this thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1803492

WOW! What is going on, I wonder? Guess we'll find out if and when they are ready to tell us.

I may get in trouble for this, but it seems like we shouldn't hold our breath. That thread was way longer but they kept deleting posts. Even after the thread was closed. I am very curious to see what the webmasters have to say eventually or if they ever will say anything else at all. There were some eye-opening posts if they were true. I would like some answers instead of them just saying that they can't comment.

morming everyone!

dreamin - do you know what "other" site they're talking about? maybe you could pm it to me. that's some pretty crazy stuff going on over there. really makes you more curious than it helps to just say we can't comment!

i saw you guys mentioned those rash guards - my mags has been wearing those kind of bathing suits her whole life (she's only 4!! lol!). i am soooooo glad that they're actually the fashion now for girls. sooo much more protective. i used to get these suits from ll bean that were perfect - 1 piece - and they were like shorts too. they would sometimes go past the knee and elbows. here's a link http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/st...48&cat4=6144&shop_method=pp&feat=6148-tn&np=Y

this is the first year i won't be getting that kind, i think. i just think now that she's potty trained, the one piece will be too tough to pull down for the bathroom. but it was the best when she was in diapers!

sorry so chatty this early in the morning. maggie woke me at 6:30 so i've been up for a while!

talk to you later!

i thought of something....if you look at my ticker you can see exactly how old the baby is!!! of course when they figure the dates they add 2 weeks, something i've always considered strange. but i think that's called the baby's gestational age.

so today i'm actually 15 weeks pregnant! yay!
i'm already getting big, seriously, i'm freaked out by this!

Morning! Just popping in quick before I take DD to school. Looks like another beautiful day here.

magsnden-as long as you leave that ticker up, we could all keep track of your pregnancy. I don't buy the girls one piece bathing suits anymore either. 2 piece are just so much easier when you have make that potty run. :rotfl:

Gotta run. Be back later.
