Thoughts on the Villas at Disneyland Hotel

We drive in so the DVC parking is a nice mental offset to the TOT for our Duo stays. They charge $40 plus taxes nightly otherwise out here adding to your nightly budget.
I'm going to have to get used to the planning months ahead once I get riv I need to start marking my calendars for birthdays and special occasions

Was it hard to get into Trader Sams? Did you go as a walkup? I never even bother trying to get a reservation because it's near impossible
We went around 10 pm on a Wednesday night in the rain and were able to get in without a reservation. We may have gotten the only available table, though.

Trader Sam’s indoor enchanted tiki bar is a fun experience. We usually plan the 60 days ahead. Many times on park day visits, reservation checks on the app, in late morning, will pop a lunch slot. Otherwise, same food, drinks, and mugs can to be obtained around the corner at Tangaroa Terrace and walk up bar.

Most Duo’s have a balcony. (The standards without unfortunately look out the back, the preferred without are on front side, each side of Grand Villas). Doubt many stand at the windows of the deluxe studios and look out much. Want to feel like a special guest?, splurge the extra points or $ and go ‘Garden’. Good outdoor space with those Duo’s and Deluxe studios.

My only time in VDH was in a Garden Duo. The balcony was bigger than the room!

I can't justify standard points let alone garden 🤣🤣 but I'm sure it's beautiful and when I do it I'll never want to go back to standard

For the birthday surprise, you might want to consider a club level standard room. The price drops as your date gets closer. My daughter and I love the food, mostly because we hate waiting in lines.😛 It's really nice to grab a Mimosa or a beer and a snack in the lounge on the way to the room.

I didnt realize the price would drop as it gets closer, ive never stayed in a club level standard room, that would definetely be an awesome birthday surprise! Is it a buffet they have like AKV for breakfast lunch and dinner? Are there other extras? I could justify that, it would save us probably $300 in food from Goofys Kitchen and other surrounding restaurants if the food is enough for a meal! right now the plan is to go for the day and go to goofys kitchen and shop around downtown disney but club level definetely sounds better!

I haven't seen it at AKV, so I can't compare. We have breakfast in the lounge. I'll make a yogurt and granola parfait, Nespresso and fruit. They have bagels, cheese, lunch meat, cereal, pastries. You can get a Mimosa, wine and beer, but not mixed drinks.

For lunch, they mostly just have snack type food. You can take some with you when you leave (trail mix, etc). They have hot stuff for dinner and they don't call it dinner, but we have our dinner there. Meat skewers, mini corn dogs, it varies each night. They have dessert later and you can watch the fireworks from there while having dessert if you are there on fireworks night.

If you are interested in more recent reports, maybe post on the Disneyland forum to ask if anyone has been there recently. It's been a couple years since I've stayed there and now that I have VDH, I feel obligated to stay in the villas. 🤣

Awesome, definetely interested! Thanks! 😀

Be aware the E Ticket Lounge, top of Adventure tower, is in refurb and planned reopening is “summer”. Meanwhile they moved lounge to lobby level in Frontier tower.

How difficult is it to get into the Disneyland hotel with DVC points. I’m not an owner there. What month and rooms are easiest to get into?

Preferred View Studios are the easiest since there are so many. Here is a link DVC Field Guide which has some availability tables to give you an idea which weeks are the most popular:https://dvcfieldguide.com/dlh-studio-preferred149

Anything bigger than a studio, and you will have a hard time booking it at 7 months since there are so few 1 and 2 bedrooms.

Crazy how usually it's the other way around I guess this is good for our points 😀

Speaking about the resort in general, we have stayed there a few times and also stayed off property in the area. I know the monorail has been under construction so not sure when that comes back online, but to me thats a big reason to stay there. The pool is also really good onsite. Beyond that we actually prefer the WDW version of Trader Sams, but that is also worth checking out. Given the crazy high prices and all of the above I think we are more likely to stay offsite on our next Disneyland trip.

Have you been to the pool at the villas? Which one is better? What Is the difference between the two trader sams? I just want to ride the monorail to the dvc lounge and feel important 🤣🤣

Maybe we were there on an off night but we felt there was a lack of show and engagement at the Disneyland Trader Sams, it was honestly a little boring and the space is pretty small so it felt a little cramped to us.

As for the pools, we used the main pool and its awesome, very comfortable chairs and easy to get a spot (atleast for us in August when we were there last), plus the restaurant there is good for a quick bite to eat.

It’s a little bit of a hike to get to the main entrance to the resort (when compared to Grand Cal lol), so the monorail is great to take you right in to the park. Without that, some of the hotels on Harbor are almost as close if not closer so at a fraction of the cost it’s easy to justify staying off site IMO.
