Thoughts on T-Rex?

I've tried searching for T-Rex reviews but since everyone writes it differently (T-Rex, T Rex, TRex) and because the search engine seems to be giving me every post that has the letter 'T' in it, it's impossible to find anything usable!

Can any of you who have been to T-Rex recently give me the scoop on the food? I know that it is consistently tagged as very noisy, and I'm ready and prepared for that. I just don't want to sit through noisy with a plateful of not-so-great food! I know my DSs (6 and 4) will love the theming, so even if it's not four-star, it will likely be worth a try. If, however, it's absolutely horrible, I will just keep them in the dark. (My DSs don't know it's there!)

(Disclaimer: I know that for every request for reviews on the DIS, I'll find those who love it and those who hate it. I'm walking proof of that.....'Ohana is seemingly a favorite of nearly everyone and we thought it was dreadful! I'm just looking for a cross-section of thoughts since I have absolutely nothing to go on!)

TIA! :goodvibes

We loved the food at T-Rex. Expecting it to be the same food as the Rainforest Cafe, we were surprised how good it was. We loved everything we had there.

As you said, you'll get love it hate it type answers so I'll end it by saying it is Applebee's/TGIF/Ruby Tuesdays type food. If you like that type of food then you'll like the food at T-Rex. I ordered the Baby back ribs and they were awesome! I'm pretty sure we ordered some loaded waffled fries (or it could have been nachos, I forget) and they were really good. I forgot what my wife and kids got but everyone was happy. This was a couple of years ago so I'm sorry I can't explain with better details.

If you're a fun family then it's the place for you. If you're more reserved then maybe not.

We enjoyed T-Rex last year. It definitely is loud, we had a hard time talking to each other but the atmosphere is pretty cool. Food was good as well, wasn't spectacular but good overall. The waitress we had was awesome! We won't be going back this year, but just because we want to try some new restaurants on this trip, not because we didn't have a good meal there.

We went last summer. I thought the food was really good. The portions are huge. The Chicken Wrap was my favorite thing that I had on the trip. But as you noted I have seen posts where people hated the Chicken wrap.

As far as atmosphere, I loved it, but my DS4 (who loves dinos) was scared. We were seated in the carnivore section right behind the giant dino and every time he roared my son would cover his ears. We were also right where the meteor shower occurs and that was also very loud. If we went back again I would ask to sit in one of the other sections.

We tried TRex for the first time in December and really liked it. I thought the food was really good. We had nothing healthy at all... :rotfl: but it was yummy. And someone else said the portions are huge - that's very true. It was a neat atmosphere and my son who is scared of everything thought it was neat... he wasn't afraid at all. My recommendation would be to give it a try... we would probably go there again. :thumbsup2

Went there for the first time last summer with fairly low expectations. (We hated Rainforest in MANY different ways, LOL).

To our surprise, not only did we have a great time and service, but the food was fantastic. Big portions, done well, and well, just good in general. Yes, it's loud, but that's part of the fun. Our two kids, 9 and 3, also enjoyed it, and want to head back again this year in August. Seeing as that I believe they are now on the Disney Dining plan, it's a sure bet!

I went there with my mother last april, and wasnt expecting much. the food turned out to be great. i had a chicken wrap (i believe it was like a ceasar wrap) with chips, and my mom had a vegeterian pasta of some sort. we both loved the food and left with doggy bags. i would definitely recommend it, especially if you have children. the theming is actually quite pretty. hope this helps! but as my diclaimer... i love ohana lol so we may have different taste buds

I like the T-Rex a lot. The food was good and all the animals really made it.

A lot better than Rainforest!

We  TRex! It is a must do each year. I always get a salad that has strawberries and goat cheese and pecans with grilled chicken. It is prob in my top 3 meals in the world!! Def my top in WDW! DH has ordered several different things and has liked them all. It is very noisy, but we have 2 toddlers, so that is a good thing for us!
Give it a try!

We've eaten there twice. The first time the meal was delicious. The second time it was just ok. Both times the kitchen was very slow. I agree the portions are large. The kids loved the atmosphere - actually, we all enjoyed it.

This very well may have changed, but when we were there in December TRex was not on the dining plan. Still worth it though. :goodvibes

As of January 1, 2012 they, along with most DTD restaurants that previously did not take the DDP, are now accepting it (Paradiso 37, Rainforest Cafe, Fultons, Bongos, House of Blues, Upstairs Wolfgang Pucks, and Portobello. Upstairs WGP and Fulton's are two credits though).

AllEars has alot of T Rex reviews:

We think that T-Rex has one of the most fun and entertaining atmospheres of the various theme parks. As for the food, the prices weren't too bad (though not the cheapest option) but our family found the menu choices to be a good variety. Everybody was able to find something, and we have some picky eaters. The dessert selection is better than a lot of restaurants that just serve the same old items. Basically, we usually make a stop here during every Disney trip and I think your family will have a fun time.

We've gone 3 times and all of us really liked our food a lot. :)

It is noisy and busy. That's the nature of the place. But it is a great meal and is not explicitly geared toward small children or girls. That's not to say young kids and girls won't enjoy it!! Just that it is the kind of place you can take 7-11 year old boys and not hear, "okay", "fine" or "stupid" as their comment when you ask them later what they thought of it.

I could live without the noise and movement, but I really like the meals I have there. :)

I agree with you about Ohana. :)

It's a pretty nifty place. It IS super loud. And the lighting kind of sucks if you sit in the glacier part. We had a good time. I had a salad mountain. Not exaggerating- a full-blown mountain.

We LOVE T-Rex! Then again, we love Ohana, so you may very well feel differently once you try it. The food is really good, definitely what you would find at Chili's, Applebees, etc., but I think the quality is better, at least for us. If you're looking for atmosphere, my boys love the Ice Cave. You can ask specifically to sit in there. It's not guaranteed, of course, but they've always seated us there when we asked.

It's been 2 years since we went, but I thought it was great!

It is very loud, but it was really fun. I thought the food was great. It isn't cheap.

And my kids got Build a Dinos from there as well. My DD still talks about it and she was only 4 at the time. I'm afraid she's going to be upset we don't have it in our plans for this trip.

DH and I have eaten at T-Rex twice. We've enjoyed our meals both times. The first time we we there it was lunch and we split two appetizers, the Artifact Stack (onion rings) and the Colosso Nachos. Both were very good, standard pub food offerings.

This past December we stopped in for dinner. My memory is failing me...so I had to pull up the menu to remember what we had!! Yikes! We got the Colosso Nachos again. DH chose the Boneyard Buffet which includes chicken and ribs...he enjoyed it very much. And I chose the Tar Pit Fried Shrimp...also very good! We both had an adult beverage of which I cannot remember the name....but they were fruity and delicious!!!

As others have said the noise level is quite high...not the place for in depth conversation that's for sure. But there's a lot to look at! I can understand how little kids could become frightened especially during the asteroid shower.

We are going back on our next trip in May!

Im going against the grain here, except for the ice/glacier room (that room was just awful visually with the changing colors/light). From everything we had, the only redeeming food we tried was the filet. My son loved the dinos though. We didnt mind the noise of the restaurant. Maybe I wouldve liked it better had I tried something different there. I had the chicken and ribs, not good. Service was decent. Desserts were good.
