Thoughts on sharing an entree

When DW and I are visiting and are a TS, often the portions are much larger than we really need and by the end of our visit, even when trying to be "good" we bring back more pounds then when we arrived. Does Disney frown on placing one order and then requesting a plate so an entrée can be shared? I can understand that they may charge for the extra plate, and that would be OK, but just wondered if any of you ever do this.

Yes you can, and I am not aware of any restaurants that charge, although there have been a few indications on the board that some of the third party ones might. Just remember that if you're at a buffet/AYCE/fixed price place you'll both be charged anyway.

It would not be at a buffet type meal where we would do that, and we would of course pay for each if it were.

Thanks for asking about this. I've got a stomach the size of a walnut so I tend not to eat as much, especially if I'm mildly hungry, and was wondering if this would be an OK thing to do. :)

A couple of years ago our family of 4 shared 2 entrees at 50's Primetime Cafe. We just wanted to try out the restaurant and didn't want a full meal for each person. No problems, no additional sharing charges. We don't do this often but I've heard it's a non-issue at most Disney restaurants.

As a restaurant worker I never understood why some other restaurants complain about people sharing (obviously not talking about buffets or fixed price pp seats)

My husband and I usually split meals because entrees are just too large for us to have our own. Charging to share is a joke and I assume most restaurants this day and age don't do this, except for hibachi restaurants because of the seat that's being taken. Restaurants don't need to be dictating how much guests should order or be eating off their menu anyway.

I'm planning to share a few meals with dh especially if you also order an appetizer and dessert.

At 50's Prime Time Cafe, my DD and I have shared more than once. They even split the entree (it's always the fried chicken) and bring it out with sides for each of us on two separate plates.

I agree that the portions are way too much for many of us. I'd rather eat until I'm satisfied on vacation, leaving room for a snack a couple hours later.

We also share sometimes at counter service places.

We've never had a problem at Disney, and so far not at Universal either. There have been a couple of places offsite a long time ago that would add $1-2 for an "extra plate" but we haven't had it recently.

agree with others I have shared at many restaurants in Disney. My mom isn't a big eater any more so we generally share an app and meal to go along with drinks and haven't had a problem. We generally go in the summer so we also don't like to walk around the parks feeling so full if we each have our own meals.

enjoy!

I share with my son sometimes, even at counter service. At table service, I always tip well, but when we share I try to even tip a little more than usual. My son was a server for a few years, so I understand the situation with living off tips.

While I love to save $$, we share because it is too much food. We like to share and then have a nice park snack here and there.

Is this allowed on DDP? My DD is 10 and I know she will not be able to eat all the food at a TS meal. Heck, I probably can't either! We have ADRs at O'Hana breakfast, Crystal Palace dinner, Teppan Edo lunch and dinner at POR restaurant.

We split ALL. THE.TIME. Never once have we encountered a problem or an eyebrow raised. I'm pretty tiny and have GI problems, I just can't eat much more than a few bites here and there. Obviously we can't split at all you can eats or buffets, etc. We have split at all of the signatures (been to every one except The Boathouse and V&A's). We usually order an appetizer, an entree and sometimes a dessert :) Most of the time we still take out leftovers. Its a lot of food for the average person I feel. Most of the places have also split our portions into 2, which is pretty amazing as far as I'm concerned !

O'hana and Crystal Palace are buffet/family style, so no sharing is allowed. One TS credit required for each person at the table, no matter how much they eat or don't eat.

Otherwise, sharing is allowed on the DDP at most non-buiffet, aycte, or family style restaurants. A small handfull of restaurants, most notably Via Napoli, do not allow sharing when on the DDP, however.

I'm glad to see this question, also. I'm going with a friend and my DS (9). My friend has had a gastric bypass and a whole meal for her would just go to waste. She can usually only eat a few bites of anything.

Just keep in mind that your friend will be charged full price for all buffets/family style/aycte places, so plan accordingly. Disney does not make exceptions at those restaurants.

If you want to share just avoid buffets and family style restaurants. My daughter and I like to share because we don't eat a lot, we also prefer getting smaller snacks such as from the quick service countries in Epcot.

Other than a buffet, Candlelight Processional, Fixed Price or something of the like, there are no rules against this. I do this when traveling with my teenage daughter as well as my sister. None of us can finish a whole meal without feeling stuffed, so we share a meal and then get dessert. We have never been frowned at or asked to do anything different.
