Thoughts on rumor of only DVC/FW for rest of 2020?

I definitely wouldn't want to stay at FW. That's not our type of thing at all and it's so drastically different than what we signed up for. It's an experience in itself. We live in the woods. No thanks lol. I know Disney does a good job with skeeter control but I just don't want to feel like I'm camping. Now with covid cases also spiking in Florida, I just don't know anymore. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel now that it seems like our reservation will get canceled because of capacity anyway.

Would it actually upset you if they moved you from the All Stars to any Villa? I'd take that move any day.

I would take it any day as well, as long as we have two queen beds or a queen and one of the nice new queen Murphy beds... we have four adult women and sharing a DVC suite with one queen and a crappy sofa bed wouldn’t work for us for 4 nights.

Our October trip is at ASMo so if that resort is closed but all of the deluxe are open and they want to move us for free to a deluxe room with two queens, we will jump for joy!

My guess is they set the recording to only modify resorts through checkouts of July 11th because the free upgrades will probably stop as soon. As the parks open. If Disney has only opened a few deluxe and moderate resorts and you want to go they’re probably going to make us pay the difference or cancel would be my guess. Hopefully they tell us something soon. NBA deal is all over the news so would be nice for everyone else to know what’s going on.

I really hope that's not the case. My trip is in September and I'd be upset if I was put into a spot where I had to pay more because All Stars Movies is closed. I'm trying to keep positive but its hard with all the unknowns.

I’m not saying they wouldn’t do this, but I’d imagine the outcry would be huge if they purposely priced out the value people. It’s not a nice move.

I’ll never say never though. I’d never have predicted half of the confirmed things!

100% speculation, of course...

I don't think Disney will resort to canceling reservations outright. The current policy is probably the most workable; forcing people to keep their exact travel dates and not giving them any say in the new resort destination if they want to keep rates/discounts. That's sort of a semi-hard line stance for their least profitable business.

And they'll only do that for people with current reservations. When things reopen for new bookings, choice of hotels, rates and availability will be adjusted accordingly.

Disney will open as many hotels as they need to satisfy guests, while not overflowing the parks.

Despite the theme parks' lowered capacity, I don't expect they'll have to cancel hotel reservations entirely. Looking at the DVC reservation system, there is a LOT of availability throughout the summer. Resorts like Beach Club, Grand Floridian and Poly still have long stretches of availability in multiple room categories. And these are the people who have typically been to WDW the most, and will be most forgiving of having to miss fireworks, parades and character greets during their 2020 trip(s).

On that basis, I think cash reservations are going to be down considerably. It will mostly be die-hards willing to pay premium rates for a watered-down experience.

Things start to pick-up in late September and into October. But let's wait and see what's happening with the Food & Wine fest, Halloween decor and the virus. Demand to visit is going to ebb and flow relative to the virus situation. If things continue to flare up and park capacity is still low, more people will cancel. If the virus is under control and capacity restrictions are relaxed, they'll have room for more guests.

And that's why I am so leery of this being moved stuff - if everything stays as is, the likeliest resorts I'd get moved to include 2 huge spread out resorts that aren't really great for the handicapped (SSR and OKW) or a resort with no real QS restaurants (Kidani.)
Ugh.
I’m not sure what usual hotel you stay at but if they put you in Congress Park in SSR you will be right next to all the dining and shopping you need. We almost always stay at SSR with our baby and it is great being able to get home without needing any transportation. I am not sure on the handicap but Congress Park Pool also has a lift to be able to get in and out of pool easily.

Something I just noticed on the new article that was posted on the Dis regarding callbacks for Cast Members in restaurant/food roles...Under the "resorts" sections, all DVC resorts were listed with the additional of Pop Century and Coronado. I can understand Coronado with the NBA being there, but maybe Pop will be the only Value opened and everyone moved there. Just a guess...

Saratoga Springs might be a great place to be if a lot of the resort restaurants still aren’t open when you visit. It has super easy access to all the great spots at Disney Springs.

A little birdy (my husband lol) said Boatwrights was showing as a place you could now make ADR's. I know it doesn't mean POR is opening but just found it interesting is all 😂

The only restaurants that you can make reservations right now are in Disney Springs. Could he have gotten Boatwright’s and Boathouse confused?

If Disney doesn't want to open values and moderates, they could point people to the Disney Springs hotels and treat those guests the same as Disney resort guests. I have a booking for both Sports and B Resort for the last week of July to cover more possibilities.

Is this still all purely speculation or is everyone with a reservation really being asked to move to DVC? Maybe this is Disney’s way of keeping crowds down while still maximizing profits from resort guests as much as possible.

I would have to flat out cancel our trip. We will not stay outside of the bubble and give up the ability to use Disney transportation or gift cards.

Yes, as of today, Disney has not given any indication that other resorts will be opening.

So, those with July stays are most likely looking at a move to DVC or Ft Wilderness

That should keep the number of resort guests waaay down as I assume they won’t be occupied at over 50% right? How many rooms does DVC have?

From what I can tell it’s about 2000. So if that’s only half occupancy maybe 1000, assuming 3 people per room, 3,000 people would be basically nothing.

The capacity of a DVC resort does not have to remain at 50% capacity as it is a timeshare and not a hotel, Owners can not be prohibited from using the resort once it is open. Disney owns at least 2 to 4% of the resorts...and has even more points that they have acquired in other ways.

So, all rooms are available to be used.

Ah. I also think I found the numbers are closer to 4000 rooms. So 100% occupancy would be closer to 12,000 guests. Still if MK is at 25% of normal capacity that’s about 12,000 people. Maybe there will be a few spots left for APs after the resort guests. I’m sure at least some of them will choose AK. It’s technically the first park to reopen. Though I still feel like MK is the place to be

Yes..and to be honest...DvC isn’t booked up for July and August because I can still get rooms...many places.

So, honestly, it May not be that bad yet...I hope! Ill know Monday when I try for August 4 to 10...then I have October and Dec too!

Not worrying about my 2021 trips yet!
