Thoughts on rumor of only DVC/FW for rest of 2020?

Oh I’d be excited! I’ll take whatever. I don’t even mind staying in the Allstars. I just don’t like being unsure about what’s going to happen. I’m excited to go!
As far as the hotels go, plan on getting what you booked and if you do get moved it'll almost definitely be a better room/resort.

Of course that only helps with the hotel uncertainty, not the overall trip uncertainty.

When they decide to open a moderate, I think CBR is most likely since it's on the skyliner. (Similarly I think AOA and POP would also be next in line.) But that's purely my speculation. And it could be a long way down the road.

Disney was obligated to open the DVC resorts for legal reasons I won't go into. For early July, there are enough vacancies at the DVCs to move all cash reservations there. At this stage, they aren't even opening hotels that are attached to DVCs. That would be the next thing to happen--Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary and others will resume using their hotel rooms. It's only logical since those resorts are already partially-staffed to support the DVCs.

Until Disney can justify opening a moderate or value resort, they'll keep relocating people to deluxe. They are upgrading people for free. However, the current policy is that people must keep their original trip dates AND accept whatever upgrade is offered. If you have a reservation for POFQ and they offer a free upgrade to Old Key West, it's take it or leave it. Only other option is to cancel your reservation. It's kind of a harsh policy for Disney, but they're still trying to make the best of a bad situation where they need to restrict park capacity plus there are limits to which hotels they can afford to operate.

And when they remove the freeze on new reservations, expect they won't even offer to book a hotel until they're certain it will reopen. Discounts may also be hard to come by if they're limiting availability and park attendance. Right now, we're in a situation where Disney would much rather fill 3000 deluxe hotels with people paying high rates rather than using discounts to fill 10,000 rooms.
This is very helpful. Will we be able to modify our length of stay to less days? For example, we booked for two weeks and might need to shave some days off now that they may not let us get more park tickets. We planned on a 2 week stay with 7 day park tickets. We wanted to take days off from the parks here and there but now it seems like we will have to lock down each park day. Without park hopping, we’d need more tickets to justify a longer stay.

I don’t think it’s fair to even guess at answers to those questions. Right now most of the reservations they are modifying fall before the parks even open. Nobody knows how park access will be doled-out or when they’ll restart ticket sales.

Keep monitoring things on the resorts board for the next 2-3 weeks. Pretty soon we’ll get some of those answers as the July 11 opening gets closer.

It looks like Poly is open now. I just booked 5 nights in August, 11-15, was wide open for studios, both standard and lake view.

My big concern is I have to pay for the higher level resort. We've already had to upgrade from a value to a moderate when we changed our dates in March. We moved from POP to POR, and that was a pretty steep change.

Lord knows what it will be like in December, but if we have to pay the difference becuase they move us...the trip will need to move as a whole :(

So far they haven't been charging for moving people to a new resort as long as those people kept the same days on their trip. I see no reason to believe that would change after the parks open.

It will be interesting what they do if more people need moving than rooms open.

Yup. I’ve been wondering about this. I was originally thinking it would force them to open more resorts. But, what if they don’t have the manpower to reopen more resorts? Then, the safest way to weed out reservations is allowing to change the reservation to an open resort, but the guest pays the difference. I really hope that does not happen, but it would not shock me if that is what happens.

It was reported a few weeks back that some may get canceled and not moved...so I can see that happening too.

But I wonder how on earth they'd decide who got canceled and who got moved???

The report was that it would not be something a guest could do to increase chances of not being canceled.

I have not heard any specifics of that type of plan, other than all ideas are subject to change based on so many factors.

Again, initial reports were moves to DVC only...Ft Wilderness was added...and that has happened.

The only recent thing I heard was they were not in any rush to open WDW hotels...and would open slowly. When that might start, I don’t know...but with all rumors, it could change tomorrow!

If it's not something a guest can do to improve their luck, then it probably has to do with things like demographics - how many trips you've had, how much you typically spend, etc. A known repeat guest who spends 8-10k altogether in a trip is a safer bet than a person who spends 3k.

Perhaps if you're staying at a more expensive resort?

Maybe multiple reservations in the same name/household would be reduced.
At some point in all this I kept reading about many who couldn’t keep track of how many rescheduled they had. Hopefully no one still is holding onto reservations they don’t intend to use.

This is tough and probably nothing Disney does will make everyone happy. I have seen many people here on the boards saying they are holding on to their reservations and will cancel if they are moved to XXX. What a bummer if those people were moved and others were cancelled and then the people who were moved cancelled which effectively booted someone out of an open spot.

Being reported that NBA is going to GDT, GF, and YC. So, honestly, it’s a mystery...but I bet this week....we got some new info today about dining, so resorts should be next!
