Thoughts on Gay Days?

We were at Disney during Gay Days last year. We did find out in advance that our trip fell over the same week, but we did not change our plans and we did not have any troubles. We did not see anything inappropriate, just a lot of people having fun. We have four kids and they didn't ask any questions, all but "why is everyone wearing red?"

i just find it funny how many people are concerned with "what if my children ask questions" or "i don't want to have to answer my child's questions". how about just explaining that they are holding hands or kissing because they are adults and they love eachother? i really don't understand what the issue is. maybe i'm just confused!! go during gay days, don't go during gay days, who cares! just go and have fun!!

We were there last year and while there was a sea of red shirts, (some very creative and funny) I did not feel that the Disney experience was any different than a normal busy day there. However, we live in S. FL and there's very little that would phase us, as mainstream is very much not the norm here. In fact I joked with my DW, as she happened to be wearing red top that day at MK that she was making me look like I was in the closet. There are many official and "unofficial" days there where large common interest groups congregate to have fun at WDW. As long as everyone is having fun within proper conduct for WDW, why should there be any issues?

ok--so thanks for posting the two sites listing the parks they will be visiting--but the sites are conflicting in their schedules which makes it hard for planning--we overlapped gay days last year and wouldn't have known it is someone hadn't told us--saw nothing out of the ordinary-but we weren't looking for it either.
If anyone knows they "real" schedule can you let me know!

It's been posted elsewhere (sorry, don't know where the thread is now) that one is the original host of the event (Gay Day?) and the other (Gay Days? -- or do I have it backward?) is more of an offshoot. It seems that the newer group was started by people who were disappointed that Disney wasn't doing more for the event and in retalliation decided to have Universal Studios as a bigger part of their itinerary this year.

The poster on the other thread indicated that Gay Day would probably be the more traditional group, consisting of more families, and thought Gay Days would probably be younger people attending without children. Both groups are "real," but I don't know which will have the larger numbers. I'd guess Gay Day, just because it's the original.

I just hope that everyone who attends -- whether gay or straight, socially liberal or conservative -- has a wonderful time and that ALL respect the others' rights to enjoy the happiest place on earth.

For me, I want my children to be exposed to all types of people, belief systems, races, religions, nationalities. The world is a diverse, wonderful, interesting place. I welcome my 3 year's curious questions about everything she notices. I love being able to help her keep that love for all peolpe in her heart. I believe in equality for all, so that is what I teach. What a great opportunity to teach!

I think the reality of the world is not that everyone agrees with certain lifestyle choices or religions or whatever. So, it is realistic that people would pose this concern. And I do think people have the right to enjoy a day of without judgemental glares and rude comments. I wish they could enjoy everyday that way!
