We stayed there for one night last year. It was a very nice stay. The beds that Hilton is putting in their hotels has made traveling comfortable again.

I stayed at Anaheim/Orange Doubletree two years ago using Priceline. I think I may have paid about $50 per night, but I'm not sure. It seems it's going for about $65 now on Priceline. My DH was Hilton Diamond at the time we stayed there and they really us nicely. The staff was very friendly, we had a nice big room and free breakfast in the morning ... which is rare on a Priceline reservation. They had a free shuttle which left hourly with the hourly return shuttle starting around 2:00 PM. We thought that would be too late for us, but it worked out fine. The shuttles were very prompt and it was about a 10-20 minute ride depending on the traffic and if we had to pick up at the Convention Center too. We went in October and the pool was a bit chilly, but my DD is a fish so we swam anyeay. I *think* they heated it, but I couldn't be sure. I hung out in the hot tub . I would stay at the Doubletree again if I had the same opportunity to save that much money doing it!

I agree. Most of my DH's travel points are with Hilton (in Shanghai). We are staying free for 2 nights at the Doubletree Guest Suites in just over a week. I can post some pictures of our room when I get back. We are also staying a few nights at the Carousel Inn for easy park access (and I do not have very high expectations of that hotel based on recent reviews on the DIS).

Is that the Doubletree out by the Crystal Palace? We have stayed there a couple times, and while the accommodations were quite acceptable, it was just too darn far away from the parks. The shuttle only ran on the hour at the time which meant sometimes we were having to decide between rushing or having a long wait.

(Of course, all this is moot if it is a different Doubletree. )

YEs, it's that Doubletree. I *thought* we would have a problem with the shuttle, but that turned out not to be the case. We just kept an eye on the clock and got out to the bus stop about 5 minutes before the shuttle was to arrive. I actually liked having a schedule as opposed to getting out to the bus stop and never knowing how long we had to wait.

We are actually staying at the Embassy Suites for free at the end of this month. I wanted the Doubletree again, but friends that are going with us do not want to pay what they are charging. At least we get a free breakfast at Embassy.

It was that Doubletree stay that solidified my Hilton loyalty. The beds were so comfortable and the staff was great. That and I think the warm cookie at check-in helped.

So... you're telling me I will be so spoiled from my Doubletree stay that I will be even more disappointed with the Carousel Inn?
Well, guess that's what happens when we cut corners in our Disney travel budget. I was just being selfish and wanting to stockpile the Hilton points for our Christmas trip to Hawaii.

We are going Christmas week, so we had to go with "what was available," and unforunately, we could not use our points for a suite, so we had to get two rooms to fit our family of 5. DH is a Hilton Diamond Member - travels 50% of the time.

We are going to Oahu, and staying at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio.

I My DH is also HHonors Diamond. We have stated at the Hilton Waikoloa Village over on the Big Island a number of times but we have NEVER been upgraded to a suite in Hawaii. The Hilton Hawaiian Village wasn't available? It's TONS nicer than the Prince Kulio. Did your DH call the Diamond Desk? We stayed at the Hilton in Osaka, Japan in August on the AMEX award (AXON, 125,000 points for 4 nights https://www124.americanexpress.com/...SpecialOffers_Hilton_List&type=intBenefitList) and was originally told there was no availability. I called the Diamond Desk came up with a room for us!

Diamond Desk show nothing at all available at the Hilton Hawaiian Village (it was our first choice). Most of DH's stays are at the Hilton in Shanghai, and sadly since his AMEX is a corporate card, he doesn't get the AMEX points. But again... I would hate to have to pay his AMEX bill if the company he works for happened to be slow in reimbursing his expense report (the plane ticket alone would send me over the edge). I'll have him check again when he gets back from his current trip, just in case there happens to have been any cancelations.

That's weird. If you go to Hilton it shows availability for cash for Christmas week.

FWIW, we didn't have to CHARGE anything to the AMEX. We just needed to have a Platinum one in our name.

Don't know much about the carousel Inn, but I am pretty sure it won't be as nice as the Doubletree

I am just a lowly HHonors Silver (only travel 6-7 times a year), but I appreciate how Hilton treats us bottom suckers.

Hope you enjoy your Christmas in Hawaii. Grandparents wouldn't allow their granddaughter (my DD3) not to be around at Christmas time or we would arrange a holiday vacation.

Very involved story as to why the trip is split between Doubletree and Carousel

I'm not expecting much from the Carousel, but mildly hopeful that it is higher than Park Vue was - we stayed there in 2002 and were digusted. If the floor is clean, the shower has no mold, and the bed does not stink or is hard as a rock... we can survive. We'll still be at DL after all!

As for the Hilton Points... DH does TONS of traveling for work. The Hilton has rooms available for cash, but we were told they did not have any rooms available for us if we use our points. I guess I just didn't question it much figuring it worked like the airline miles do (only a certain % of the seats/rooms can be "free"). Of course we've gotten mixed info about the room occupancy at the Prince Kuhio. Diamond desk says not a problem having 5 in a room (room for 5 plus a roll-away that we have to pay for). Of course another representative told us the 4 person occupancy is very strict due to state tourism safety codes. We booked 2 rooms to be on the safe side, but are having to pay for one room.

Cool to hear about the AMEX stuff. We have a personal one, but don't use our credit cards much, so I guess we'll never make it to platinum level.

Hilton does do a good job of treating everyone with pleasant service. I noticed that about the DCL cruises too. We travel "steerage" when we do DCL, and get excellent service. Too bad you can't get travel points for Disney cruises!
