We just returned from our week long vacation in the cabins at Fort Wilderness and loved it! If anything below is negative, please note that our overall experience was very positive and we can't say enough great things about our time there.
1. Bring your own coffee and flat-bottomed filters. They give you little individual packs of coffee, but they go to the tiny coffee makers usually found in hotel rooms, and the coffee makers in the cabins are full size.
2. The pull-down bed in the living room is the most comfortable bed in the cabin! We fought over it.
3. We were a group of 6- my mom, my husband (6,4", 280 lbs.), me (no small tater), and my three girls- 4, 6, and 8. We all fit nice and comfy in the cabin. Bunk beds are very sturdy. We would definitely do it again.
4. The 2600 loop was perfect! We were the second bus stop, so we were never on very long AND it's on both the orange and purple lines. We never waited more than 10 min. for a bus internally. Not true for my husband who got stranded at the 1200 loop trying to get back to the playground to retrieve a souvenir bag. A van finally came and picked him up. PLUS, we were right across the street from the quiet pool. 2600 is the way to go.
5. We found a Jurassic cockroach under our coffee maker- no biggie. You gotta expect run ins with nature when camping, right?
6. Tinker Bell visited our cabin several times and hung out with my girls' lovies. We came to find them in bed with the remote, reading the newspaper, having a tea party. It was great! The girls couldn't wait to come home and see what Tinker Bell had done. Since we couldn't bring Sherman, our Christmas elf, this was the next best thing.
7. You might think that being on the front row at Hoop Dee Doo is best, but the table in the center of the room got the most attention. Just sayin'.
8. You get more towels than you can possibly use! Look in the cabinet under the bathroom sink.
9. We decorated our deck with Christmas lights to help the kids identify our cabin in the dark. It was also festive. There is an electrical outlet on the deck, but you'll still need an extension cord.
10. The cabins have a front door and back door. Which was good, because our door handle broke, and we couldn't get out. When you put in a work order (we did twice), it gets fixed almost immediately.
We say this is our last Disney vaca for a while, but we're lyin'. Hopefully, we'll be back some day (soon)... : )
