We have stayed at HIFS twice, 01/00 and 01/01. We stayed with my parents and two kids in a classic suite. Was it a good deal price wise? Absolutely. We got the senior rate of $84.00, considering we were housing 6 people and we all ate a big breakfast everyday, that's some bargain. The breakfast was adequate, but if you're accostumed to breakfast/brunches that have omelet stations, belgian waffles and piles of delectable fruits, you will not find that here. If you have enjoyed the size of the living area in a Hawthorne or Embassy suites, you may be suprised. If you're used to the speed and effciency of a check-in at a Marriot, be prepared to cool your heels. If you like your fast food from the food court, well, FAST, avoid peak dining times. If you eat at the buffet in the evening, be prepared to have a 15% gratuity added even if your server never returns once to refill your drinks.

I cannot stress enough, GET A WRITTEN CONFIRMATION. WE have done three check ins with them and each time they were messed up. The worst being at 3:00am (flight delayed) when they had magically changed our resi to a Residence suite that would not sleep all of us on a night when they were booked solid. Without our confirmation letters we would have had a big problem. When we returned after going to the beach for a few days, they again had us in the wrong rooms. Sigh. With the wrong rate.

We had no trouble with housekeeping, in fact my child also got sick in the middle of the night and someone was there with linens within 10 minutes of our call. Our lock stopped working, it took 40 minutes for them to come and let us in as we sat in the corridor watching our ice cream melt. A chair and a lamp were missing from our room, which they replaced once we let them know.

The front desk and food court were terribly understaffed, you need to be aware and try to avoid busy times.

I know many people have said the shuttles are good, I would still HIGHLY recommend having a car.
Although you are blissfully close to WDW, nothing is in walking distance, if you want to eat somewhere besides the hotel, or want to buy groceries at a grocery store etc. you'll need a car.

The rooms are smallish, but well designed, in my opinion. It's true if you use the sleeper, it takes up the whole room. By shifting the tv stand a little we were able to clear enough space to slide by without crawling over it. The beds were very comfortable; even the sleeper wasn't too bad; slept on it with sick son. It can be noisy, I used ear plugs. And keep in mind there are 800 rooms at HIFS, so it can be crowded when everything is booked up.

So, I guess I'm saying I'd stay here again because it is a comfortable room at a good price, ( but short on luxury.) Once the kids are grown ..... back to a Marriot or comparable.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping I didn't sound too negative, because certainly a fun time can be had there!!

I'm booked in at HIFS for easter. My rate is $134.00 per night. I am traveling with husband,
15yr old boy, 8 and 6 yr. old boys. If you could suggest someplace else what would it be?

Jesse--Your review came across as honest and objective. It was very thoughtful and a lot more informative than the usual I hate it or I love type of posts. You gave the pros and cons of the hotel.

Sharonhowran you will most likely be quite comfortable and satisfied with your stay and there will be enough room for all of you. My point is that this is no 4 star hotel, so don't expect 4 star service, but I can't imagine anyone being miserable at hifs either. Get your written confirmations sent to you, and, if possible, rent a car. Then, have a great time!

Jesse...I do agree with your overall opinion based on your experiences. We had no problems with check in, check out, our rate or long waits at the fast food court. The most important thing for people to understand is your comment about realistic expectations. I knew we were booking a Holiday Inn at a reasonable rate (111.00) and therefore considered the fun pool area, activities, free breakfast and extra space of a kidsuite to all be great bonuses. If we were paying 200.00 a night, my expectations would have been much higher. I am also planning on staying again and have recommended it to friends that I know well enough to know they would enjoy it.

I've definitely seen HIFS listed with 4 stars on all kinds of web sites and in travel brochures.

I guess its necessary to keep in mind the specific travel issues a particular place is trying to address - and which definition of luxury applies.

This place seems clearly designed with the intent of minimizing some of the travel misery for families with young kids. This is the kind of misery that other 4 or 5 star hotels - rooms with two beds (however big and comfy), a tv, great room service, upscale food, express check in and a quiet pool surrounded by relaxing tanning adults - are not going to address. Afterall, its not like those places give you all the perks of HIFS, plus all their standard perks. They give one set of perks, HIFS gives another. At anything like the same price range, you can't really expect HIFS to cover all the luxury bases. Afterall, if the other places did, you could stay in a bigger Marriot kidsuite with a great kid pool for the same price range, and have it all.

I'm not even going there, but it does seem clear. If you want to pay for luxury that means you feel more comfy than at home, this isn't the place. If you want luxury that means you will feel at least almost as comfortable as at home (ie the kids are happy and entertained and a parent can actually sit by the pool in peace for more than 5 minutes) then this would be a good place.

Can you get both kinds of luxury? It would seen so. I saw a report somewhere (probably a link from this board actually) that said even some of the ritziest places have jumped on the 'kid suite' bandwagon. But DARN sure you aren't getting in them for $169/night

I think it can be dangerous to hear so many good reviews on a hotel like HIFS. You go in expecting to be blown away.
HIFS is a GREAT hotel. It is the IDEAL family hotel. We were there during Presidents week and it was pretty full. I say this to let you know it was still great. Not too crowded by the pool and everything went well ie: check in & check out.We even had room service(2x) for the kids(they have kids meals that come out to about $5 with tax and tip) Only waited max 1/2 hour for them.
I took the shuttle once, it is a big bus and runs on a schedule. It was comfortable. *I also prefer having my own car.
I don't think you will be dissapointed, it's a great place. We're going back for 8 nights in Sept and can't wait

as other posters have indicated, proper perspective is the key. HIFS is a newer property designed with families with kids in mind. It is very convenient to WDW. It has a better than average pool area. It allows parents to put their kids down for naps and at night while having a place to sit and talk, watch tv, etc. It has a fridge and microwave. It is family friendly with the kids check-in area and also offers a complimentary hot breakfast. But is not, in my opinion, nor is it meant to be a knock-out luxury hotel. As long as it is kept clean and well maintained in the future as it continues to offer competive pricing it will be a great place for families with kids to stay.
