Thoughts/Comments on Hotel Royal Plaza?

Hello all,

I recently booked Hotel Royal Plaza for my next trip ( 9/17 thru 9/23/03), using the $50 rate. I usually stay on property for the most part, but with the lack of AP rates , and the very good rate at HRP, it was hard to pass up.

If anyone has any comments about this hotel, including if you have utilized this rate, and let me know what to expect, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks, and take care,

Bill

Hi Major Woody!

I also booked HRP for our stay 9/8-9/13, but I went through Travelzoo. They offered a rate of 64.00/night, upgrade to a tower room, waived the resort fee and I got the 4th night free! I couldn't pass this deal up! I did research this hotel through Mousesavers.com, Mary Waring really liked it. She posted a trip report on her site and detailed their stay at HRP.

Hello,

I checked the travelzoo page, and couldn't find anything in regards to Hotel Royal Plaza. Do you know any specific link or is this something that I missed out on?

Thanks, and take care,

Bill

I read about it on one of these Disney boards, but I am not sure which one, about a month ago. i called the hotel directly and I could book the package through them. I would call and see if they still have anything available for that package. Good Luck and be sure to post what you found out.

We stayed in the Hotel Royal Plaza in December 2001. It was very nice, and an excellent value (we too paid $50/night). The lobby is very nice and there is a decent (but nothing special) casual restaurant with reasonable prices. The location is fabulous, but the walk to downtown disney was a bit far for us after long days of power schlepping through the parks. The room was a fine, standard hotel room with an "ok" tropical decor. There was an in-room coffee maker and a safe big enough for our laptop computer. Our room had 2 beds (doubles?) and a loveseat that probably pulled out (don't remember). We were on the first floor, first room from the lobby which was convienent. The pool was basic, without much landscaping, but it served its purpose. There was also a hot tub (which borke down for about half our stay-- and the front desk staff seemed perplexed that this concerned us!). There was also a laundry room, which saved as a trip to a laundromat (as we were there 2 weeks). We found the transportation system to be too slow to be worthwhile and just drove to the parks-- but let me offer the disclaimer that I am an unreasonably impatient person. There is a "resort fee" of $7 per day for which (as best I can tell) you got a newspaper-- definately nothing but a revenue-booster for the hotel.

All-in-all, we found this hotel to be an excellent value and would definately stay there again (at a rate of $50/night-- but not more). In fact, we almost booked a trip there again this September, but got a slightly lower rate and no resort fee at the Courtyard in Downtown Disney. But this was a tough choice for us, becaue we'd been so pleased with the Royal Plaza.

Hope this helps. Have fun!

Thanks to all who replied. I'm still a bit uncertain, as I usually stick with on property resorts. But it is tough to pass up this rate, and I'm sure we'll enjoy it.

Thanks again,

Bill
