Hi fellow Podcasters...I really need good thoughts, prayers and pixie dust for my daughter today. She goes in to get her ribs adjusted.

It is non surgical but she will be in so much pain today.

She got hit in the ribs several years ago in high school with a piece of wood in shop class. She has had severe pain the last 3 years and has been in and out of ER. She gets a fever, nausea, and horrible side pain. Her white blood count is low, her liver counts are high. Lately she has trouble breathing because the ribs are pushing into her lungs. You can see that her rib cage is dented (also feel it) There is not a test that exists that they have not done, from blood to scans, She has been to so many doctors too. She glows in the dark now! The doctors think the rib is torn/broken or slipped where the cartilage rib joins to the rib. She applies lidocaine patches daily to keep the area numb. They want her off the vicodin, which she is now.

Because of her training in martial arts, the area never heals. She can go months with no pain and then gets kicked in the area and wham, back to ER or the dr. Doctor wants her to stop but she loves it and is really good at it and hope to teach it someday. She got her 1st degree black belt in mixed martial arts last August. She has cut back and had to drop a martial arts class in college because of it.

Well….….I know how you all have helped so many with your thoughts and there is power in numbers. So if you could think good things today at 1130am (PST) for my Eleni I would really appreciate it.
Thanks everyone....denise

Sending pixie dust and prayers that all goes well today and she is able to get some relief from the pain.

I broke a rib last week, so I feel her pain.
As much as she doesn't want to, she may have to lay off martial arts for a couple of months to give her rib time to heal. JMHO, but just like a broken arm, the bone needs to heal.

Denise, you and your daughter will be in my thoughts & prayers

I can't begin to imagine what she has gone through :sad2:

Denise:

Sending prayers and best wishes towards your daughters. Hope the procedure takes care of the problem forever.:wizard:

That really sounds terrible! I will be keeping your family in my thoughts today! Good luck!

Sending prayers and pixie dust by the bucketful that this procedure will be successful and that the doctors are guided to heal her.

Hope her treatment is successful in making her better. Prayers and pixie dust for her!

I sincerely hope she feels better, but quite honestly, you may want to advise her to focus less on the martial arts for now on more on her safety and well being

Just a quick note to says thanks for the kind words, thoughts and buckets of pixie dust...and of course the PM I got. I truly believe in positive energy from my extended family

Eleni was very scared this morning before the visit. She has really been the guinea pig and the patient with the odd symptoms. She visits the lab so much they know her by name. And at ER they comment that she cut her hair. A few too many visits I think.

The doctors have come up with Costochondritis. Which is an inflammation of the cartilage of the ribs. Like I said before they think she tore or broke the connection of the rib and the cartilage rib.

The doctor pushed and tried to manipulate the ribs around. She did not scream but you could see the tears going down her cheeks. She has to go back in 2 weeks for another treatment. She was still numb from the pain pills. (which she will no longer take) for a few hours after we got home. She took a nice long nap.

She is going to take it easy with her martial arts class. She has been sitting out for a couple of weeks now.

It is just so hard to see your child in so much pain. Especially when some look at her with that, "oh you just want attention look". Never a doubt in my mind that this wasn't real, the blood tests don't lie. Thank goodness the liver doctor cleared her even after horrible liver tests. I am happy to say the tests have all been normal since the flair up in March.

So again, accept my thanks. We may never meet but it is good to know there are so many caring people...:flower3::flower3::flower3: you are truly appreciated.....

Good news!

I've been wondering about her all day. Glad to hear that she's home and doing well.

Wow, what a terrible treatment for her (and you too). Glad she is home and resting. It is so painful to watch our children be in pain.

I have been thinking of your daughter all day. Hopefully this treatment (even though very painful) will have positive results. Best Wishes and lots of Pixie Dust to your daughter for a positive outcome.

Denise,

Thanks for the update. I was diagnosed with costochondritis over the summer. It is not fun and, from my experience, have found out that it returns. My doctors told me that once it appears you are more likely to get it again in the future. I have had it several times since then.

The best she can do for it is to stay on a strict regimen of Aleeve (I was put on extra strength Tylenol, but since the recall I wouldn't lol). I used that for my last bout of it. My doctor had me take it several times a day to deal with the inflammation and pain.

Keep us updated. Much PD your way.
