Thoughts about POFQ?

My DH and I are annual WDW visitors. DH uses an electric wheelchair and loves to stay at the monorail, specifically at the Poly. So, I feel super guilty spending this much money on one vacation a year. We're young marrieds, with no kids and we can pay it, I just don't like that we don't have money to do other things because of our one big trip a year. We're heading to WDW in about 2 weeks and plan to take a bus over to POFQ and see how we like it. We've heard good things, but wanted to ask y'alls opinion since y'all seem to know a lout about accessibility, etc..

• How long do the bus rides take? Are they crowded? Do people make a big fuss about having to move for someone in a wheelchair (Yes, we've had this problem.)?
• Can we visit our beloved Poly if we aren't staying there? Can we just sit by the pool and have a drink (we rarely ever get in the pool)?
• Are all the Mods just as nice as the Deluxes? We are assuming that with the Deluxe Resorts, you're paying premium for the convenience of the monorail, etc.

You cannot get directly from one resort to another by bus without chaing buses either at a Park or DTD.

Other than DVC Members staying on points, a person is only permitted at their own Resort's pool. If their Resort's pool is temporarily closed you will be permitted at another pool of the same level. Port Orleans is actually one Resort, so you can use any pool in PO. Similarly, someone staying a one of the All Star Resorts can use any All Stars Resort pool.

The rooms in the moderates are 314 sq ft, compared to the 440 sq ft in the Poly. And the regular room have two double beds rather than two queen beds and do not have a day bed.

And the value and moderate resorts tend to have outside corridors with the room doors opening to the outside while the deluxe have inside corridors protected from the weather.

Thanks for the info. I think that given the savings, we can deal with the lower amount of square footage. Do you know if the Mods have accessible rooms with king beds, instead of double? It's just hard to justify ~$1,400 more for 6 nights when we're going to be at the parks 85-90% of the time.

As far as busing goes POFQ is the first ones picked up and let off before POR. You won't have any problems with people having to move for you for the bus will be empty on the way to the parks. There is only one bus stop at POFQ.

POFQ does have king size beds because that is what I got when I got my reservation last month.

The nice thing about POFQ is that is the smallest resort in the entire kingdom. I also think it is one of the prettiest.

We are going in 2 weeks but have stayed there before.

The bus rides aren't too long from PO, though they'll probably seem rather long to someone used to monorailing! Bus rides will take about as long from PO to MK as a bus from Poly to DTD, as they are pretty much the same route, and close to the same distance (ish).

I've not had many problems with Guests on buses. Obviously you will occasionally find the odd bad apple, but then you could just as easily find them on the monorail or in a ride queue. If you stay for the evening entertainments in the parks, I suggest you take your time getting back to the bus stop, to allow the first mad rush to clear. Pretty much all of the stores stay open until the park is empty, so you can always do a little late-night shopping when the crowds are low (which is a big difference for those of us used to navigating the teeny shops during busy times ).

You'll be able to visit the Poly, but I'm not sure about access to the pool. As CF said, you won't be able to actually use the pool, but it might be possible to use the pool bar, if you ask a CM very nicely.

We stay at the mods whenever we go, and I think they're wonderful. I actually think the outdoor 'campus' style layout is nicer than the indoor hotels, because you get such beautiful grounds to explore. As a PP said, FQ is one of the smallest resorts, which means you never have far to go in the rain, but it also has RS just up the path if you want vast areas of green!

FQ is, as has already been said, very pretty. It's kept in good nick, with regular re-paints of the exteriors and well manicured formal gardens. The CMs are wonderfully friendly and helpful, and maintenance have been very quick on the few occasions we've had to call them. As far as I can remember, there are push-buttons for all of the heavy external doors.
