Our family just booked 2 weeks at OKW in early January. We have not stayed at the properties on site before. We have been to WDW 4 times, but have stayed off site in condo's. Any suggestions for our family with girls ages 12, 10 & 7 and a hubby who loves to golf? Any great eats that we should not miss?? Thank you for your help and I am surely getting addicted to this board :-)

If you post this question on the DVC board you will get tons of resonses.

I am sure you will love it. It looks like a beautiful resort. I am taking my mom there for 2 nights in January before we switch over to the BW. Have fun!

You will love it! Especially since you say your dh loves to play golf as there is a golf course right there in the resort! OKW is the most spacious and one of the most beautiful resorts on property and you can park right in front of your villa.

Just be careful - as many of us DVC members will tell you -- once you stay with DVC, you won't want to go to a regular hotel room again and we may end up saying "WELCOME HOME" because you also may not want to ever stay anywhere else lol.

Have a great time!!;)

You and your family will love OKW.we stayed there last september in a 2 bedroom,we are DVC members, and we will be returning in September of this year to stay in a GV nad we cant wait.the resort is wonderful and the rooms are the largest i think of any onsite resort, correct me if i am wrong.
What size room did you get?If you got a 1 bedroom or bigger you will have a full kitchen and a jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom and you will also have a washing machine and dryer. With kids the kitchen and the washing machine and dryer are a life saver.you also can park right in front of your villa. The decor at OKW is beautiful,You will definetly be spoiled once you stay there. If i am not mistaken you do not share the bus system with any other resort.
You will not be disappointed:p

You will LOVE it!

I just got back the day before yesterday from a weekend stay there and can't wait to go back in a few more weeks!

But be careful, we may be saying WELCOME HOME to you!;)

Hello xlstacey,

We're DVC members and we love Key West. Instead of 2 weeks at OKW why not 1 week at OKW and the other at the Beach Club Villas.

It's beautiful walking over to Epcot in the evening from the BCV and you can also visit the boardwalk. Just a suggestion.

Enjoy,

Jackie

It's Wonderful! Lots of room (The largest rooms of the DVC properties), nice theming, and quiet. Our family (DH and 3 Adult children and DIL) stayed in a 2 bedroom unit in January 2003 and we would go back in a moment. We loved it!!! The extra space did indeed spoil us, and we now always want to stay in a DVC property!
Some specific thoughts: You can park virtually at your door (Only resort this is so). The villas (larger than studios) are completely equiped with everything you could need. I never really "Cooked" but we had breakfast and drinks/snacks "At Home". If you are considering cooking some meals in, the kitchens are fully equipped, one thing some folks choose to bring is a non-stick frying pan. You can pack less, since you have a washer/dryer in the unit, and easily throw laundry in.
The whirlpool tub is wonderful after a long day (or before one if you want). Sitting on the balacony in the morning, having coffee, looking over the golf course and towards the canal --- ahh I wish I was there.
The resort is pretty quiet - and somewhat removed - although we never felt this was an issue. You may see some discussion about limited bus service, but we never felt this way - even in a slow season - except perhaps in the middle of the day when most folks weren't trying to return to the resort.
Have a wonderful Trip!

We love it!! We've stayed once at OKW, Beach Club, and POR. They all have great things about them, but OKW gets best all around in my ratings!!! I would definitely rent a car. We only used the bus for MK and never had a problem with it (2 years ago). We only ate at Olivia's for breakfast and it was fine. I've heard it's good for lunch and dinner. We will be there in August!!!

We will be going back to OKW for our second stay in December. We stayed a week last Feb and it was SUPER!! The washer and dryer were such a lifesaver. You can pack VERY light. We had the 2 bedroom villa and even though there were 6 of us (Dh, 2 teens an 8 year old and a 2 year old) and we had plenty of room. We ate breakfast every morning there and brought home leftovers in the evening to put in the fridge. We had a great view and even saw fireworks on the nights we were "home". We stayed right by the front desk (building 62) and ate at Olivias twice for dinner. It was very nice and kid friendly. The little shop by the bus stop was invaluable for snacks, coffee, and breakfast items like milk. The bus service was wonderful and even though we were there in off season we never had to wait very long for a bus.

You should have a great time!!

You will love this resort! It is on a golf course, has a very relaxed atmosphere and a great pool! The restuarants are OK, not anything special, but we loved this resort! You feel like you are in disney, but also get that relaxed vacation feeling when you are there!
have fun!

I just got back from there while i was scouting out the area to move there. its great. I only had a problem with the key getting into my room and yes it was in the middle of a flordia downpour. but i Parked right in front of my room went out got back in my car drove to the front told bell services they let me park under the cover while i went into the front desk and they sent someone out within 2 mins. he had me in changed the battieries in the lock and reprogramed the lock and had my keys working. can't beat that. also if you go to downtown disney there is a boat service that runs from the okw marnia very relaxing and only a min or two longer than a bus, drops off right at the rain forest cafe. have a good trip

Can anyone recommednd a good building with view of the river ? I would like to rent points to stay here instead of AKL:cool: :smooth: :Pinkbounc

Bump ! I have rented points and have 9 nights at 2 bed villa OKW

I need help with building choice that includes the following things.

1. Non smoking
2. River/canal view from balcony
3. Close to hospitality house

Or is there a building that is much newer than the rest that I should go for ?????

"Close to Hospitality House" is the one request that is made most often, therefore the one most ignored. If you are going to have a car, I wouldn't even bother making it, I would make the other requests. if you are looking for building numbers, I wouldn't request specific building either.

I would request qualities that are important. 'Water view', 'smoking or non', 'third floor', 'a room without that horrible smell', etc.

Ok, I have already requested non-smoking. I think I will just ask in check in if there are any villas with the water view. I am sure I will love whatever room I get.

To the OP, since your hubby loves golf, make sure he brings his camera if he plays golf at LBV, the golf course OKW is on. DH treasures the picture he took of our Villa from the golf course. He also loves golf, and I think that contributes to his love of OKW.

We requested a villa close to the Hospitality House on our recent trip and had no problems getting that and the other requests we made as well. If that's what you want, I wouldn't hesitate to make it one of your requests.

Be careful what you ask for though;) ...

Close to the hospitality house can also get you close to the main bus stop. That's the one request I wish I hadn't made. It's the last stop the bus makes on the way to the parks and the last stop it makes on the return trips as well.

Since the busses for EE seemed to have a problem arriving before 7:45 it made for several mornings of very crowded, very late, standing room only trips.

It's possible to get fairly close to the main pool area and the Hospitality House without having to use the main bus stop. A couple of times we just walked to the bus stop on Peninsular road rather than wait with the crowd at the main bus stop.
