Thought July 4th was crowded

Looking at Fastpass availability for July 4th and pretty much everything is available. I thought this was one of the most crowded days. Should this give me hope when I make my selections for that Friday and the week after in the next few days?

We have been there for the 4th many times and find the parks very manageable. The crowds tend to get heavier in the late afternoon and evening when the locals come in for fireworks. The impression we have always had is that the folks who go for the fireworks don't really care as much about doing rides.

Shhhh.... don’t tell everyone!

We had a great time that week last year. We went a handful of times in 2017 and 7/4 week was my overall favorite crowd wise.

Don’t get me wrong, 7/3 and 7/4 were crowded at MK for sure.

But for the overall week, it was quite manageable.

The last couple year, July 4th has been reasonable. The history of ridiculous crowds and tiered pricing seem to have cause people to stay away. It’s one of the reasons the crowd calendars aren’t very meaningful anymore.

Went two years in a row, 2015 & 2016, expecting the worst and was very pleasantly surprised. The second year was much hotter than the first and we really had to take it down a notch but the crowds were much less than I anticipated!

Back in the day, 4th of July was complete pandemonium in WDW. These days, Christmas is the new 4th of July, and the 4th is quite nice.

We will be there the 3-14th and had NO issues getting Fastpasses. All times were available for every day I tried. Expecting a great 10 days...

I will be there for July 4th week and while I was able to get the FPs I wanted at 60(+) days out, I am seeing very limited availability for making any changes, and that's been true for a while now. I can't make any HS/TSL changes, AK/Pandora changes, and TT/FEA are all gone on the days I'm going to Epcot.

It is also a Wednesday this year ;-) That’s like the one time that no one gets any extra work days off
Thanks a lot, I didn't realize it was a Wed until you just pointed it out. Looks like I'll be at who knows where at WDW on the 4th.

I've been on the 4th a couple times. I'm always in MK on the 3rd and EPCOT on the 4th. The crowds are always really manageable at least in my opinion. I usually begin to say that the crowds are rolling in at about 5-6 p.m. in the MK on the 3rd which is usually close to the time I stake out a spot for the fireworks. Then in EPCOT on the 4th, my day is spent using my tier 2 fastpasses in the morning, listening to the Voices of Liberty in the afternoon, and my Tier 1 FP is always set for Illuminations. That just makes it known that I will have a good spot for the show without having to wait forever for the fireworks like on NYE where they don't have fastpasses for Illuminations.

I was at MK all day on July 4th in 2016. I thought it was very crowded. The first two hours between 8 and 10am were fine. By noon it was nuts. The fastpass line for Splash Mountain was 35 minutes long. We stayed until 7pm. With that said, we were able to ride everything we had on our list and it was fine. I had friends that did other parks that day instead of MK and said it was not crowded at all. I am booking my FP for July 5th at MK in about 45 minutes!

im honestly thinking its the weather that plays a big part in crowds. July is VERY hot, as is June, August and September.

We arrive on the 4th at Poly and are just going to enjoy pool and then fireworks from the mound. Will hit up the park the next day.

I really hope it stays manageable. I'm planning to go over 4th of July in 2019!

We went in 2017 and the whole long weekend was very quiet, except at MK starting around midday on the 4th itself. But like others said, if you are in a different park on the 4th that should be fine. At least until the secret gets out...

We are going the last week of July and noticed FP's have been way easier to get and modify even days after. There are plenty to choose from. Even FOP has not been to hard getting. By now with our past summer trips popular FP rides would be gone.

I think it's the weather myself. We have been there over the 4th a couple times and the crowds were manageable. Being from the Texas Gulf Coast the weather is the same and we don't seem to mind it as much but for many others they seem to just melt.
