Thought I'd made a decision - Poly or YC?

Hello all!

So I thought I'd made a decision and booked the Poly for September 4-9. It had always been my favorite when I was a kid, and I was excited.

The more I'm thinking about it, though, the more I enjoyed our stay at Yacht Club earlier this month. Being able to walk to two parks was remarkably handy.

So, if faced with a choice between the two and only about a $45 difference in cost, which would you pick? I'm thinking of asking my TA to switch to YC.

When was your last stay at Poly? What was it about YC that you like? Both resorts are equally convenient in terms of getting to/from parks.

My last stay at the Poly was in my childhood - so maybe 15-18 years ago. I’ve visited since then to eat at the various restaurants. I liked the theming, the pool, and the dining options. Also, the convenience to the Magic Kingdom (thought of this especially on my insanely long party day 8am - midnight when my bf would need a break).

For Yacht Club, I loved the location. Especially its proximity to Epcot. It was very fun to just pop into the park for a bite at one of the festival booths or walk through WS. And when my bf needed a break, I felt like we weren’t losing much time in a HS/Epcot day. We didn’t spend a ton of time in the pool, but enjoyed the main and quiet pools.

One of my problems is I’m not sure if my bf is going. And without his swing, I’m torn between the Ep/HS conveniences of YC and MK convenience of Poly.

Both nice properties so I'd make my decision based on what parks I plan to spend the most time within.

I feel like it’s pretty evenly split. A few days split between HS/Ep, MK all day Friday, hopping over to MK again for EMH and maybe HEA.

So I don’t know if there’s a clear dominant park - Maybe a bit more MK time, but that’s also dependent on my ultimate travel party.

I reached out to my TA to see if it was a possibility. Could be a moot point.

My favorite two locations: Monorail and EPCOT area.

If you have not been to the Poly for a while, I would go back. Quite a bit has changed since you were there. It's still beautiful, great transportation options. Love being able to walk to the TTC.

We've stayed at both and just stayed at YC about two weeks ago. The refurb is spectacular! I LOVED it! Especially for an adults-only trip. It's so low-key, quiet, close to two parks, great pool, great service, great restaurants within walking distance (Ale & Compass was fabulous) and a great, new QS. Poly is so chaotic and loud, IMHO. We love to visit, but I don't think we will ever stay there again. Capt. Cook's is always crowded, you can't get into Kona or O'hana without a reservation and there is no shade at the pool. If you are worried about transportation to and from MK, you can always hop in an uber or lyft from CR (or Minnie Van from MK) and be back at YC in no time.

We stayed at the Poly last October for the exact same reason you are planning it, nostalgia! We also switched from our normal stay at Yacht or Beach Club.

I've said this a few times - The Polynesian was great, brought back memories, close to Magic Kingdom and we had a nice stay. But mid-trip we were really missing Yacht Club and plan to go back there next trip.
Turns out now that I'm older I appreciate being able to walk in/out of Epcot whenever - for food, a cocktail, anything! Walking to DHS is fantastic. And we just missed the decor, scenery, and overall vibe of Yacht/Beach.

You'll win either way, but our favorite is still Yacht Club. :)

We stayed at the Poly this year and it was seriously lacking the magic it used to have. My vote is for YC!

Valid Points have already been made:
- The room refurb at the YC is stunning... and a step above the Polynesian's current conditions...
- The YC location is ideal... especially during F&W festival season...
- The Polynesian, especially the Grand Ceremonial House, is in fact more chaotic and louder...
- The Boardwalk Atmosphere is unlike anything else...

Having already familiarized, and enjoyed yourself, at the YC recently... it seems fitting to switch resorts and return...

It appears you may have some flexibility to return in the future though... so why not try something new? September, with its lower than normal crowds is a great time to explore the 'Resort World' a bit! Get out there and see something different!

Yes... you could absolutely make it to Day 3... look at your travel party... and say 'we should have gone back to the YC'... or you could look at them and say 'I can't believe we haven't returned here sooner'...

I think even with the valid points made above... the Polynesian still has a tremendous amount of 'pros' that shouldn't necessarily be overlooked... or enough 'cons' to warrant a change in your situation!

So many great responses. I really value everyone's input, thank you! I'm still on the fence -- but my TA didn't seem to throw up too many barriers when I inquired about switching resorts. I told her I'd decide by Monday (heaven help me). And we'd see what availability was like then if I wanted to switch.

**Edited to add -- My bf just flip flopped again and isn't sure he'll go back until "Star Wars stuff opens." So maybe now would be a great time for the Polynesian. Then we can return to Epcot resort area for the lovely proximity to HS once Galaxy's Edge opens.

We are in a similar situation. We decided to do a split stay between Poly and YC. This will be our first time doing a split stay and I'm a little nervous about it, but also very excited to try a new resort for us (Poly) AND be able to stay at our family favorite (YC). I just couldn't make up my mind between the two. o_O We have also planned our parks according to our split stay. We will be visiting MK and MNSSHP during our poly stay and HS and Epcot during our YC stay. We are also going the same time as you!

I have stayed at both recently and Yacht Club has been much better in terms of refurb rooms and customer service. I stayed Club level at both and YC CMs go above and beyond. That being said, there is just something amazing about the grounds and property at Poly that is so mesmerizing and I love to walk around the resort and take it all in. Even my kids still prefer the Poly pool over the YC/BC pool! It's a tough call. I vote for a split stay! We do it all the time and don't find it to be too inconvenient.
