Please help me real quick...I like the T/S days rule someone posted, so I got that...
Tuesday and Thursday will be EE for us.
So if DL opens at 8am regular time, EE starts at 7am?? Is that correct?
Wow, that's early...if that is correct, what time to get at the gates?
Does anyone actually go that early?
I think an appropriate Dream Prize would be a cup of coffee to those on line!:worship: to the Coffee Deliverer!

MinnieBeth, yep, that's right. On 8 a.m. opening days, DL opens at 7 for Magic Morning. I was kind of thinking the same thing when I found out before our March trip: yeah, right, who gets up that early? Was I ever surprised!

On our first Tuesday, we were surprised when we got to security at 6:35 that there was a long line (but it moves quickly). We got to the turnstiles and about half were open for MM, and we were about 20 back in our line. By the time the turnstiles opened, all the lines were back nearly to the California letters on the Esplanade! Apparently, hundreds of people get up that early!

Thursday we were trying for Nemo, so we left the GCH at 6:05 and got to security at 6:10. There was a mom with 2 preschoolers and one other guy already there. We walked up and said, "Good morning, fellow crazy people!" and we chatted for a bit. 8 minutes later the line behind us was up to about 50 people, no joke! Somebody came up and said, "I just want to know how early you had to get here to be first!" and he was shocked when I replied it had been less than 10 minutes! The security people wandered up about 6:25, and opened at 6:30 a.m.

We brought fruit and cups of cereal to eat in line!:thumbsup2

In August there were plenty of people up that early (We got there at 6:45 to an already long line). To ride the Fantasyland rides with short waits, you really don't need to be more than 30 minutes early than MM time, but if you are really wanting to be on one of the first Nemo subs, I would recommend being at the gates 45+ minutes before MM begins. Yes, 6:15. It's early, but worth it.

will the monorail from the DLH be up & running that early or is it better to walk over & get in line before opening?popcorn::

The opinion of most here is that the Monorail (even if you're lucky to get on the first one)....will dump you off AFTER most folks have entered the park & hoofed it to Nemo or Peter Pan/FL. If the goal is to get in early & start touring with fewest lines, it's best to walk to the DL front gate.

Also.....there is no better walk than an early morning (before crowds) walk (with coffee & mcbreakfast stuff in hand) to the DL front gate.

Wow! :scared1: I had no idea everyone got there so early. I guess we'll have to adjust our plans a bit. I'm used the my WDW schedule of getting to the parks around 8:30am.

Oh my gosh, you have to do this--and do it right--even if it's just once in your life. When we were there earlier this month we did our EE on Sunday morning (the only day in our schedule that it worked for us) and it was a crazy early 7 a.m. EE. We arrived at the gates about 6:30 or so and they were all about 10 people deep. We jumped on line 13 and as previous posters said, even five minutes later the lines had grown exponentially. As soon as the gates opened we were the first people to dash over to the second turnstile that opens up so we were first through that gate (#14 I guess?)...we ran through the tunnels and ran at a pretty good clip down Main Street until we got to the end of the street where security tells everyone to walk.

I have been going to Disneyland my whole life (I'm 36) and it was one of the most exhilarating moments I've EVER had at the park. The sense of place and time is just unbelieveable. It's just you (if you are one of the first in through the gate) and the entire place empty at your footsteps...it just has to be done to be believed. I think the more memories you have of the park the better this feeling is, if it were your first time it would be great, but without the frame of reference I think would make it less awe-striking.

We ended up the second, or third, family in line for Nemo, so we were on the first sub. Would have been nice to call it officially first but first sub is first sub! Nemo didn't end up opening until about 7:25 or so (technical difficulties)...but there was something about knowing we were going to be first that it didn't matter that we were waiting. We had some fun visits in line with another family also buzzing on the adrenaline rush. We still ended up going on both sides of the Matterhorn (no wait) and ran to Space Mountain right about 8 a.m. and got an early fast pass return and also rode that once before heading over to the other side of the park. By 10 a.m. we had accomplished SO much at Disneyland, we then walked over to California Adventure and did all the wacky early-morning park opening stuff all over again (DCA opened at 10 that morning).

The great irony is, on Monday the park opened at 10 a.m. and we got there a little after 9 (ostensibly "early" so I could go back through the DTD security to La Brea and get a coffee) and there were crazy monster numbers of people already there so we just jumped in line and skipped the coffee.

I usually drink about 5 cups of very strong Starbucks every day...and on the trip I ran on adrenaline for three days straight!! Honestly, Disney could make a FORTUNE on people in the esplanade by opening a coffee cart there just on early entry mornings!!

Like others have said, lots of people get up that early. I know the rest of our group always finds us crazy to get up that early, but you can get so much done in that first hour and the park is so quiet, it's amazing. On our last trip in December, we got to the gates at about 6:30, power walked to Nemo, got on the first sub and were still able to walk on all the FL rides, including PP after that. I love how quiet FL is at that time of morning.

Can anyone tell me if this is the case year-round and every day of the week? We're going next month - June 25 - 26 - a Wednesday and Thursday. Should we expect large early crowds on these days of the week?

Tina are you staying on site?

Regarding "large early crowds".....it's not that the crowd is large, it's that for MM (or any day) folks start lining up 30-40 min. ahead of time. Once the lined up "crowd" gets thru the gates (takes about 10 min.) then they scatter in different directions (& the park is NOT crowded the first 2-3 hours).

Only rides that see an immediate line (during MM) is Peter Pan & Nemo, thus the reason some people (like me) feel the need to "line up" 30 min. ahead of time.

On your dates (a Wed & Thurs in late June) DL probably won't feel crowded till 11 or 11:30am.....which is why many of us swear by the strategy of:

- Enjoy DL at MM or at Gen. Ad. rope drop.
- Tour & pick up 3-5 FPs for 2-4 hours.
- Hop to DCA.
- Tour & pick up FPs.
- Take a mid day break for rest and/or swim. (when it is most crowded).
- Return to the parks in the late afternoon or evening for entertainment & with 6-8 FPs in your pocket for easier touring.

We will be there next week and have plotted that same strategy for mid-week. It will be very interesting to see how crowded it is the first week of June compared to the first week at the World.

We only did the first week at D'World one time and then since love to go in May.
For perfect weather it is the best time in Florida.

After this trip we are hoping for a D'World Christmas visit in 2010. It will be my wife and I's 20th Anniversary.

See you all at Disneyland's Magic Kingdom next week!!!

Do we need anything other than our D'Land cards/passes to get in for EE?

If you're staying on-site you'll need your room charge slip. If your staying off-site and have the parkhopper with MM (EE) then that's all you need.
I usually stay at DLH with DTD view a couple of times each summer and it's interesting to wake up at 6am on an EE day, look out the window, and see people walking toward the entrance. I have yet to make a 7am EE (my wife and children take forever to get ready), usually get there around 7:30 and just wait to ride PP or Nemo on a non-EE morning.

KCmike, if you are staying "off-site" (for instance at a hotel/motel on Harbor Blvd), all you need to bring are your Park Hoppers (aka "entrance media"). The computer will know you get 1 MM (ee)....unless you get two thru one of the travel vendors.

If you are staying on-site (one of the 3 DLR hotels) you should bring your park hoppers AND your Hotel receipt (that they give you when you check in). That receipt entitles you to mulitiple MM days (if you want it).

It's probably a good time to bump up DLR29's great "MM Superthread".....lots of good MM info on it. :hippie:

Have a great time KC. :thumbsup2

EDIT - SD fan beat me to it.

:)

Yes, we are staying at GC. We intend to hit the pool mid day to cool off, so I really like your strategy. We'll be doing a full day at DL (plus a few hours on Tuesday evening after checking in) and then a partial day at DCA (not as many of the rides appeal to us there).

We'll definitely do an early morning at DL!

I noticed that you mentioned bringing the receipt from our hotel check in. Will our room key not be sufficient?

It might be, but a guaranteed MM entrance is the charge slip. I don't know why you wouldn't have the charge slip with you.

Your room key won't have the dates you're staying on it, and it's not encoded on the key. The charge slip (about the same size as the room key) has the dates of your stay on it, and that is what the CMs will need to see to let you in early.

Since room keys dont have dates printed on them, I think you would need the receipt.
