Anyone else have a kid who is nuts for these books?

My youngest loves them and is on the third book right now. It's really getting him excited about the next trip and yesterday I caught him searching the EPCOT map (yes, I have Disney maps hanging on the walls of my house!) for "the building they don't use any more that has a thing like a circus tent inside."

Too bad he was looking over near Nemo. I showed him where the old Wonders of Life pavilion is located and now he can't wait to see it for real on the next trip.

Yes! We love that series! Some of it isn't super accurate, but still fun to look and use imaginations during the next visit. We read them aloud as a family a couple of years ago, but I think DS is due to read them himself now.

I was thinking about starting my 8 year old on this series but know nothing about it. Is there anything that would potentially "ruin the magic" in them? (such as mention of the actors who play characters, etc) Would they be good for an 8-y-o? Thanks.

I'm asking DS right now (he's almost 10) and he says it doesn't take away the magic, but some parts can be a little confusing. The characters in the books are portrayed as "real" but they also talk about how cast members portray Mickey in Fantasmic. But there is also a "real" Mickey character in the books. Did that make sense?

And now that he's left the room I can add that he seems to think all the stuff that happens in the book - like Maleficent appearing around the parks - can and will actually happen on our next trip. ;)

Sounds like he still buys into some of the magic, then :) Thanks for asking him.

We read it when DS was 8 and I agree that there isn't anything to ruin the magic. But I will say that my DS is a skeptical/critical kid and while he may not have believed everything in the books, he did want to go investigate things for the possibility. We spent a lot of time in One Man's Dream looking for a secret door! ;)

DS has already said there are things he plans on looking for on the next trip. LOL
