We just got word. They are admitting my DS11 to the hospital for the flu. His oxygen is low and his asthma has flared up. This came on so sudden. He was fine yesterday.

My DS11 has a SERIOUS history of asthma. I can always tell by his cough if its gonna be a flare up with his asthma. Yesterday evening he was fine. I made taco's for dinner, they were a little spicy, so it sent him to the bathroom after dinner. Around midnight, he woke us up saying his chest hurt. When I got to him, I touched him and he was burning up! I took his temp. and it was over 102.2. This just came out of no where! There was no cold like symptoms, no weezing, but he was clearly ill. I got him calm, he stopped complaining of his chest, but he said his head hurt. About 2 hours later, he was settled, I took his temp. again, and it was down to 101.8. He also has a mild case of diarrhea. We were able to go back to bed. This morning, is temp is back up to 102.6. We have a doctor's apt. this morning. I dont know what to think. My boy actually asked me last night if he was going to die. Of course I assured him he was going to be fine, but at this point, I just dont know what to think.
Please keep him in your thoughts today!

I am just curious - are your peds still prescribing Tamiflu?
The docs around here won't prescribe it any more unless you are extremely high risk.
They said that there are signs of H1N1 becoming resistant to Tamiflu, so they are cutting back on precribing it.
Just wondering if that is becoming more common?

Thanks guys for the kind words! It really means a lot!
My boy Isaiah slept through the night. His fever hasn't broken. Its still up to 102. Whe had a doctors apt yesterday morning. The doctors checked his chest told us he was weezing really bad. His oxygen level was at 89. I'm told that's low. The doctor rushed him to a childrens hospital. As soon as we got here he started throwing up. So they set up an IV. The good news is his oxygen is normal and he's still weezing, but his chest isn't as tight. So I know it could be worse. My boy is strong. He has had asthma since he was a baby,he's tough he will fight this. They started him on Tamiflu last night they tell me twice a day for 5 days. I'm just worried about the fever.
Thanks again for the love guys! I'll keep you posted on Isaiah's progress!
Fever is your body doing its job. Don't worry about that part of it. In fact, our pediatrician asks "Dd they have a fever" but NEVER asks "How high?" He doesn't care what temp, he only cares if there is a fever and how the child is acting.
I wish your son a speedy recovery. As I sit here, waiting for my paramedic sister to drop everythign and come over to listen to my chest for me.I don't want to go to the dr. so need to know if it's just bronchitis (most often is caused by a virus so no need for antibiotics) or if it's moved into my lungs. In the meantime, I am using my inhaler (that I only have because I got sick and had one prescribed in May) every 4 hrs.
Cross your fingers I can just stay home!
Yikes. That doesn't sound so good. I know you want to stay home but I'm kind of hoping your sis encourages you to go to the Dr. Better safe than sorry and from what I hear this thing can take a bad turn quickly. I hope you are feeling much better asap![]()
We just got Isaiah home. His fever broke around 10 this morning, so they wanted to make sure he was keeping the fluids down. The took him off the IV and gave him solids again. He's been doing great all day. He asked for Mickey D's on the way home, so that's always a good sign!
