how did it start for you? DS had a headache earlier and took a tylenol. I felt his forehead and he was hot. I didn't have a thermometer in the house so wasn't able to take his temp until an hour after he took the tylenol. His temp was normal but since we both have naturally low body temps a tylenol would knock out any low grade fever he may be running (though what is low for most people is high for us). Now he's sleeping, totally wiped out.

Both of mine complained of headaches the day before the fever came on. DD was headachey all day Saturday and kept mentioning she was chilly. I checked and she had no fever. She was tired though and put herself to bed early. Sunday she woke up and was burning up with fever and had a terrible cough and was sneezing and sniffing like crazy.

Monday, DS was headachey and tired. He blamed it on the weather. His cough did set in yesterday, too. I checked and he had no temp. This morning, he woke up and was blazing. Has been on the couch in the same spot all day except for bathroom breaks. He's just wiped out.

DD, on the other hand, was bouncing off the walls today. She's back to 100%.

edited to add: DD's is confirmed Swine Flu (had flu test and was +...ped says Swine is the strain going around and we had seasonal flu vaccine 3 weeks ago), so DS's is assumed to be same. Both are on Tamiflu 60 mg. twice a day.

My child got it last week. He was fine all day and then around midnight started feeling really nauseous. It hit him very suddenly. He didn't have a fever at that time. He woke up with a 102 fever and within half an hour his fever was 104+. He had a headache, body aches, fatigue, dizzy, sore throat, high respiratory rate.

24 hours later and his temp was down to the 100 - 101 range and he was feeling a bit better. He is still achy and nauseous.

Our peds told us to keep an eye on him because the dangerous time are the days after the temp goes down. If the temp goes back up or the symptoms come back within a week, we are to bring him to the ER immediately.

My whole family went through it last June. I was the first to drop. For me, I was tired and headachey. Next came chills and body aches (every joint of my body hurt), fever, and coughing. I tested positive for swine, and went right on Tamiflu.

The kids all dropped one at a time after that, and they started with fever and coughing.

Once we all got Tamiflu, the illness ran its course without too much fuss. It wasn't as horrible as the news said it would be, and we just stayed in our house and weathered the "storm."

We have a cold/virus going around here. It starts with a bad headache and sore throat. That only lasted a day. My two boys, my sister and my nephew have had it. They all had the headache the first day. The next day they had nasal congestion and sneezing pretty bad. Two had low grade fevers. By day 4 it was over and about gone. I was nervous at first. I am VERY thankful it was a cold. No cough and no chest congestion. Some of the parents around here thought it was the flu at first when their kids came down with the same symptoms.

I hope thats all your child has too.

Thanks for the info. DS had type A flu last June (missed his finals, urgh) but after a lot of run around they said it wasn't swine flu.

Nobody here knew how to do the test or what type of sample to take to which hospital to have analyzed so after driving around half the day with the sample in the car before finding out where to take it I'm not sure of the results. He was very achy but he wasn't nauseous at all so:confused3.

I hope it was swine last spring and he has some immunity now.

DS14 has "something" now. He started coughing and had a headache yesterday. I just came downstairs with that glassy look in his eyes and one touch and can tell he had a fever. He will be staying home from school today. I will take him into the doctor since he has asthma.

My DS15 woke up this morning with 101.5 temp. Hurts all over. No school for him today. Now I am just waiting for his twin to get the same thing.

Not sure if I should take him to the Dr. today or wait and see what the day brings. Any advice?

If he doesn't have any underlying medical conditions like asthma they won't do anything for him at the dr so I wouldn't bother bringing him in unless he gets REALLY bad.

My dd 15 wasn't feeling well i went out at 9:00pm last night to get a new thermometer and get it home it didn't work:scared1:gave her tylenol and she is now complaining of a headache and her chest hurting, she has some cough not a bad one but we are off to the dr at 3:20.I hope they will test her.

Do you have swine flu at DS' school? You might at least call the doctor's office and speak with the nurse. I believe that if you need to start Tamiflu, it has to be done within a certain time of the onset of symptoms or you can't take it.

I'm waiting for DS to wake up this morning because he wasn't feeling too well yesterday.

This is basically what the nurse told me when I called in about my son on Monday. He has flu-like symptoms, but unless he would have any underlying health issue or any breathing problems, they really don't need to see him. She did mention if someone in our family had a compromised immune system (like taking chemo), then they would prescribe tamiflu.

I didn't get tested but talked to a few people that did and had it and our symtoms were very similar so I'm just assuming I (and hubby) had it.

Mine felt more like the worst head cold I've ever had. I didn't have the runny nose but my head felt like it was full of rocks and my sinuses were full of cement. I had a half a day where I felt achey and had chills. The head stuff lasted for 2-3 days. I was beyond exhausted and pretty much slept all day. I never had a high fever, more low-grade. I had one day where I felt great and thought I was done and then the cough came. It was the dry tickly kind at first and then became more productive and just sat at the upper part of my chest. That went away and I was pretty much symptom free except for still feeling really tired. About two weeks ago and I'm just now feeling back to 100%

I just got back from the dr with DS14. The doctor is pretty positive he has the flu, did a nasal swab, they are calling with the results. He said he wants him to take Tamiflu even if the swab comes back negative since the false neg rate is so high. DS's fever was up to 102.5 by the time we got into the dr. Now we just have to wait for the pharmacy to open. I have to call his asthma dr later to see if she wants to do anything different with his meds.

My DS11 has a SERIOUS history of asthma. I can always tell by his cough if its gonna be a flare up with his asthma. Yesterday evening he was fine. I made taco's for dinner, they were a little spicy, so it sent him to the bathroom after dinner. Around midnight, he woke us up saying his chest hurt. When I got to him, I touched him and he was burning up! I took his temp. and it was over 102.2. This just came out of no where! There was no cold like symptoms, no weezing, but he was clearly ill. I got him calm, he stopped complaining of his chest, but he said his head hurt. About 2 hours later, he was settled, I took his temp. again, and it was down to 101.8. He also has a mild case of diarrhea. We were able to go back to bed. This morning, is temp is back up to 102.6. We have a doctor's apt. this morning. I dont know what to think. My boy actually asked me last night if he was going to die. Of course I assured him he was going to be fine, but at this point, I just dont know what to think.

Please keep him in your thoughts today!

Sounds pretty much like the flu-it hits hard and fast.

My DD's started out with a sore throat, followed by headache and a sudden high fever.

My DS is home now with the sore throat and headache...I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until the fever hits. :sad2:

 to all the Moms and Dads dealing with sickies right now.

Never took dd7 to pediatrician (no point in doing so), but she MAY have had a flu. Took her to her dance school's dress sale at 10am. Stayed out there because she was having class at 2pm and it's an hour drive each way...went to lunch at 11:30 to kill time. SHe was FINE when she ordered her kids meal. WHen the food arrived, she took 5 bites, declared she hated her food, and started to cry. When we were getting ready to pay our check and the waitress cleared her plate, she cried again. THis was at 12:30pm!

We went to the book store nearby to kill more time. DD7 cried, and said she didn't want to go into the store, she wanted to wait in the van. So I waited with her, while oldest dd and niece went browsing. At 1pm, they returned. DD cried again because she didn't want to go to dance class. I felt her head, and BAM! She was fevered.

I stopped at studio, told teacher we were missing practice. On the hour drive home, dd's eyes looked glazed and she dozed. Got her home at 2pm, temp almost 103. Nose a little stuffy and a little sneezy. Just a little.

Spent 2 days in bed with her (to get her to stay there), and pushed fluids. Day 3, she was fever free. 24 hrs later, she was back to school. She seems fine now.

I, OTOH, had several days of SUPER headache, achy legs, and burning chest. I cough up little bits of NASTY tasting stuff, after using my inhaler. DS9 also has a cough going on, following his sore throat last week. No fever for me or him. DH developed a slight cough and is losing his voice, and headache. He stayed home today, and is in bed still at 10am.

I don't know if we all had the same thing, but symptoms aren't all the same.

I talked with the nurse and since DS does not have any other medical conditions, we are taking the "wait and see" approach.

Since he said he didn't sleep well last night, I gave him a dose of Nyquel and he is fast asleep and breathing sounds normal. He is not as warm to the touch right now either.

Hope all of the kids get well soon...I hate when children (mine or anybody's are sick)

Take care!!!!

I am just curious - are your peds still prescribing Tamiflu?

The docs around here won't prescribe it any more unless you are extremely high risk.

They said that there are signs of H1N1 becoming resistant to Tamiflu, so they are cutting back on precribing it.

Just wondering if that is becoming more common?
