Those who have flown in and rented a car recently, how was the MCO experience?

Flight prices are so tempting out of DFW TO MCO. I have yet to see reports of people getting sick from airplanes, and we think greater risk is your destination while in Florida. For those who have arrived via airplane and rented a car did you feel safe in the Disney bubble? Was MCO manageable to social distance? Would you do it again?

I felt safe flying to MCO. Everyone wore masks and was socially distanced. Crowds were modest in the airport, so I didn't feel jammed close together. The only area that felt a little bottle-necked was the train from the terminal to the baggage claim, but it was short and people were still doing their best to socially distance. Everyone has to determine their own comfort and safety, but if you feel comfortable with air travel, I don't think MCO should be a unique, specific cause of concern

Yes, we are seeing the same prices, what are your dates? We are looking at August right before back to school and Thanksgiving

October 15th-20th, I went for October trying to duck August heat and September hurricanes. Originally I was thinking MNSSHP.
I cant believe i put this trip together so reasonably.
We rented a car off priceline for $9 a day.
We are at days inn mco before and after our 3 Disney days/ nights i got the room for 35 a night.
I hate paying 200 s night when we are leaving at 6am for a flight.... the only downside of the $25 flights were going there our flight is at 830 pm and leaving I had to take a 8am flight.

Who are you renting through at $9/day? I'm booked with Hertz right now for Oct. 14th-19th at $231 as a weekly rate.

We did and went with Alamo because Alamo Insiders can skip the counter and go directly to pick a car from the parking lot. We passed very long lines at rental counters on our way to get the car so I was pleased with our decision. Rentals only on on Terminal A right now and when we returned the car it was a ghost town. MCO overall was very quiet coming and going for us. No security lines, had the whole tram to ourself, very socially distanced at the gate.

We are Insiders as well, what do we need to do to by pass the counter or does being an Insider make that happen automatically? Thank you

We book through Costco so I just log into my insiders account and link the reservation. Then you go ahead and complete the “check-in” online. You then print a sheet to take to the exit. All rows are marked by class so you pick any from that row (Unlocked and keys in vehicle) and drive to the exit where they take your paper, ID and credit card. Then you’re on your way.

Our experience on United was pretty bad. A flight attendant on the outbound flight had her mask under her nose part of the time, & obviously also never corrected others' poor mask wearing. First class was packed, even though it was only half-full in advance, which meant they upgraded people into it despite the need for distancing. People ate snacks & drank throughout most of the flight in first, so masks were off more than on. On the return flight, a flight attendant kept his mask under his chin (no coverage) whenever he was in the galley, including during passenger boarding & while preparing drinks. We flew out of Houston, btw.

The worst part of the airport experience itself is boarding. People still line up early & make a crowd to get on asap, despite being asked not to. We waited until everyone else was finished boarding, to avoid that crowd & having so many people file past us once onboard. We also sat across from our gate rather than at our gate, to avoid the crowding at the gate.

All of the rental cars are temporarily on one side of the MCO airport now, btw. I forgot which side (I think A), but it was the opposite side from our baggage claim, so we had to claim our bags, then cross the airport again to rent our car.

Thank you, this is the first time we have re need a car at MCO in many years and are doing so to minimize contact so this is perfect

We did online check in this week and our experience wasn't quite the same thing. We still skipped the counter but we were met by an attendant when we entered the garage and he told us which cars we could pick from and then gave us the keys for the car we picked. I still think it was worth it to skip the counter, but there was some/minimal contact in picking up the car. I guess they don't want people going in and out of the cars as they're picking which makes sense.

You can ignore those people if you prefer. At least we do. If you know where you’re going, then you can politely tell them you don’t need assistance. We walked straight past them and to the full size aisle and picked our vehicle. The aisles are well marked so we don’t find the assistance to be necessary. They had lots of employees around so I’m sure they are just bored with the reduced activity.

One of the frequent flyer bloggers explained declining an upgrade. Row to himself in the back of coach vs packed first class.

The poster you quoted said the keys were not in the car. The attendant gave you the key for whatever car you selected. Easier to get the key then trying to hotwire a car.

Oh missed that. We flew in on the 24th of July and keys were in the vehicles.
