So while I did not get performer, I wanted to start this thread specifically for my own interests and those who are auditioning, wanting to learn more, hoping to re-audition in the future, and those who know they will be a character when the time is right (i.e. me lol), etc. For those of you who made it, past or current, where did you audition, did you prepare ahead of time, what were your scenes, if you can describe how big you made them or the moves you did, etc. Something that one person did that stood out as a DO or DON'T, etc. Just a basic for those of us who want to try again and be better prepared. Thanks!! and a BIG CONGRATS to the chosen few, hopefully I will meet some of you down there, if Mickey is nice to me!!

i didn't get the performing role either, but im wondering if it would be a good idea to go down for something else (attractions, merch, etc) and then try and get into performing once i'm down there. i talked to a few people in orlando when i went down over spring break who said they did that, and now they're friends with so-and-so. any one thinking the same thing??

I'm definitely going to audition down there again, but I heard that it was harder when you are down there and switching roles. I'm going down in some capacity (hopefully, if I get in!!) and then audition, but I was also told that there were classes and such for CP, FT, and PT cast members on animating (like the improv/ audition animating, not drawing) and that sort of class for those looking to audition, so I just want to get there, work, take something like that, audition, get the most out of it and network. So, long story short, yes I am planning on that also!!

Unfortunately you're not able to switch roles into Character when you're down there. It's difficult to change anyway, but auditioning while you've been assigned to something else is I guess a breach of contract.

Personally I had a huge advantage because I'm so short that they don't see people my height that often, and in my time there I think I probably met fewer than 10 people who were my height or shorter. I just smiled and had fun with the audition, I had no dance or animating/acting experience, so I was assuming I wouldn't get in - it was really my height that did it, heh. But two weeks later I got my acceptance letter and I had a blast during my CP!

I know it is hard to get into, even harder when you are there, but my interviewer who had been a performer said there were still auditions there, and if you went seasonal, or extended, etc. So idk I want to just get down there and do something, I also had no dance or animating experience, I wish I was shorter or like, 3 inches taller, I'm 5ft. 10in.!! I figured I wouldn't but know that one day I will. I'm going to keep auditioning, working my way up, and just doing what I can. He did say that there were time limits like had to have worked your role like 3 months before you could audition so to always check that but there are ways to do it. I am just going to check it all out when I'm down there (hoping I get there!!) I did hear that it is VERY VERY tough to get transfered to a different job even if you are amazing just because of filling vacancies, jobs, etc. and the contracts.

what was your real height and disney height?

my real height is 5'10" about, I'm slightly over. I didn't get a chance to ask what my Disney height was, she just moved on to the next person. I wish I had jumped in and asked tho, maybe I can find out if I get into the program or when I get down there sometime. Sadly I don't know. I know that the heights are different but I just stood up as straight and tall as I could which usually adds an inch if I stretch enough so I'm guessing a little below 5'10" to just about 5'11" which I guess is a very common height these days.

ahh, ok yes. My inteviewer told me that if I got another role in CP that I had to wait the 6 months (or 4 months or however long my program is) until I audition again. Which doesn't really help unless I decide to go seasonal, extend, or drop out of college and go for PT or FT (really, just extending the program is available from what I have heard about downsizing and economy lately) so I will just keep trying and do what I can, make contacts and get to network and stay in college and hope the economy picks itself up before I'm left on the street lol. But seriously, picks itself up......Anyway, thanks for the clarification, that's what I heard, sorry I got it mixed up in the first message!!

I'm 4'9" and was measured the same.

And yes you can audition if you extend or go seasonal/FT/PT, but you can't audition mid-program is what I meant. :)

i used to absolutely hate my height. well untill i found that my height was in the "special consideration" range.
with having no dance or animation experience, did you find the dance hard? was it one of those dances that you'll get the steps right away or one of those, if you practice a little before they call call you in to audition you'll be fine?

I found that the dancing was not too tough, I had done a little dancing before but nothing professional or serious. Many people seemed to get it right away. They were some easy steps that got progressively harder. We learned 8 beats, then practiced that 1 or 2 times as a big group, then switched the 3 front rows and the back rows (so front was in back and back is in front), rehearsed it again, then learned the next 8, and every once in a while we switched back or practiced from the beginning. I thought it was pretty easy if I had had more time to perfect it but I was doing fine until we did everything together and thinking about the next steps or doing everything as big as possible.....so to answer your question, most people seemed to be able to do some practice while they waited to do the small group of 6 people auditions and got it. A little practice is always good but it all amounts to how well you can pick it up and how well you have rhythm or rather keeping the beats with movements. It;s not as intense as it sounds though, but you will get hot and sweaty and it is not just do the Hokey-Pokey either. Disney takes their characters very seriously, seeing as that is what a lot of the company is built on. so yea, that's it.

The dance wasn't too hard, but it gets harder as the steps progress, and they rotate the room, so that the back becomes the front and whatnot. I was at the front at the beginning when they were doing to easier steps but then I got rotated to the back for the harder steps and couldn't see what was going on, I'm pretty sure i would have been way better off if i started at the back.

ok, i understand what the two of you are talking about. the dance doesn't seem that bad. and if i can, i'll position myself in the back first the rotate to the front. or do they position you at particular spot? but to be on the safe side i think i'll just start taking some dance lessons just so i can feel more confident about the steps i'm doing. i'm also 4'11, so hopefully they will keep that and not give me another height like 5'0 or something. i haven't grown an inch since i was 12 (now 22) and i don't think anything is going to change now.
is the whole sign in, height check, and dance/animation the reason why it could about 2 hours (not including the avanced dance or anything else)? or is there things you do during this process?

They didn't position us anywhere so we just chose. It was 2 hours for me from the sign-in time but I got there a half-hour early and they had already started filling out forms and lining up and there were people there. It also depends on if everyone can fit in the space and how many people you have there. At mine, there were about 87 people and they took about 45 min. to get everyone sign-in, height, etc. So even starting early we began practice 15 min. late. So if you have a ton of people, it will take longer for all that. Also, I understand some places don't hold all the people that come so they split you up into groups, like half first, learn the dance, then the second half, then into the small 4-6 people groups. So that could make it 2 times as long. On average mine was 2 hours, but be prepared to stay for a few more.

Any more tips for those of us who didn't pass? Really i think just being at an audition will help the next time around in respects to knowing what will be required of you. I'm going to take more dance classes as well as practice my animation. I was measured at 5'1.75 and idk if that puts me in the overwhelmingly average height range or not... I'll also work on getting shorter. :rotfl:
