what do they eat at Disney? Why so few options for vegetarian kids?? Ok, I realize there are some restaurants with mac n' cheese and quite a few with pizza but outside of that there really is not much. What are some other things to try?

I have ordered the adult tofu at Sci Fi just to get some protein into my kid on a long trip. I once ordered the gnocchi made plain at Artist Point for my child but for $28 and then had to order a side vegetable too. I wish they had a kid portion. Anyone have other advice? Cheese, dairy and eggs ok. :goodvibes

I'm vegetarian myself and have looked at all the QS menus. We will have the QSDP. I know I am going to be eating a lot of salad and pizza/flatbread. I don't like fried french fries or Tofu so my options are limited. I don't like veggie burgers either. If I wanted meat I would eat meat. Fake meat to me is just as nasty as real meat. Good luck finding some good food choices for the kids.

As the question was not specifically about the dining plan, moving to the main restaurant board.

Just as an aside, the tofu is off the menu at SciFi, a veggie burger has been added.

I don't know if you've ever contacted Disney's Special Diets? I have a food allergy so I deal with them quite often and they are AWESOME. They always go out of their way to help me find something I can eat.

I often read about the availability of vegan and vegetarian offerings as well as no sugar, low fat and low sodium diets. Disney is the BEST place to have dietary restrictions because they are so helpful.

I usually email them before I go and they send me a packet with special information on it. Then, whenever I go to eat somewhere, I ask to speak with the Chef and they are most accommodating.

Hope that helps!

My suggestion (I'm a vegan who's a light eater) would be to split meals and choose QS locations. Many restaurants have great dishes that are are perfect to share (Liberty Tree pot pie, Tony's pasta marinara {I love], Rose and Crown curry, San Angel Inn tacos, Yak and Yeti fried rice, etc.). Some great lighter QS choices are CHH lighthouse sandwich/chili or veggie wraps/sushi/noodle bowls throughout the parks. :thumbsup2

Thanks for moving this. I must have forgot where I was when I posted.

On the aside...Boo!! That tofu dish was actually good and one of the few places you could get tofu in the World. The veggie burger is not so good and my child does not like it either. Now we are down one more option. :sad2:

I guess I could try and contact special diets again but previously when I emailed I was told that there were vegetarian options are many if not most of the menus and to just tell the server when you arrive. However, I may not have phrased it well or didn't focus on the "child" aspect. I guess I can order adult meals for my child but he is young and doesn't need an adult portion and it is very expensive to do so every time.

I considered just sharing items and/or adding side items and sharing entrees but I wasn't sure if the restaurants would do this. I know in a buffet it isn't allowed but that's ok there are options on the buffets.

I just can't justifiably feed him mac n' cheese, plain noodles and cheese pizza for lunch and dinner for a week!!

Thanks for the links and comments though. I might try to rephrase and ask my question again.

Buffets are a good option for TS, as the kids can eat from the whole buffet. But for CS/QS, it's good to probably share meals from the adult menu if the kid's tired of mac & cheese every day.

DS does fine with Mac cheese and cheese pizzas for vacation. Sometimes he'll have some salad...at Harbour House he ate a side of broccoli like it was the last broccoli on earth...he will have fruit etc. They really will work with you, even with a child.

We are on the DP and our litle guy is a vegetarian. I tried to upgrade to adult (and pay for it) for him and they would not allow it because he is only five. He does not like mac and cheese or carrots. He will eat lots of "adult" food happily. I am going to kindly ask if he can simply get smaller portions places and explain our situation. We are also fairly light eaters so DH and I can share a bit of each of our meals with him is need be. I sure wish they had better options for kids.
