...Do you find yourselves sometimes talking in circles with them, without ever getting anywhere?
My mother is almost 80, dad is 78. They are in good health physically and mentally. Slowing down, but still very active and mobile for their age.
Mom hates to travel. They have just been invited to a 4 day trip with my aunt, on which Mom doesn't want to go. She spent about an hour giving me all sorts of bigus excuses about why she couldn't go...blah, blah, blah. I finally told her that if she didnt want to go, just tell my aunt the truth, and move on. Then she's all worried about being the "bad guy" by not wanting to go. Well...you don't want to go, and no matter how you say it, or for that matter, who says it, the reason you aren't going is because you don't want to, and so everyone else is going to be disappointed. If that makes you the "bad guy" then so be it. Decide if you want to go and be miserable or stay home and be the "bad guy".
Parents can drive you crazy sometimes, with all the theatrics. Make a decision and move on!
