...Do you find yourselves sometimes talking in circles with them, without ever getting anywhere?

My mother is almost 80, dad is 78. They are in good health physically and mentally. Slowing down, but still very active and mobile for their age.

Mom hates to travel. They have just been invited to a 4 day trip with my aunt, on which Mom doesn't want to go. She spent about an hour giving me all sorts of bigus excuses about why she couldn't go...blah, blah, blah. I finally told her that if she didnt want to go, just tell my aunt the truth, and move on. Then she's all worried about being the "bad guy" by not wanting to go. Well...you don't want to go, and no matter how you say it, or for that matter, who says it, the reason you aren't going is because you don't want to, and so everyone else is going to be disappointed. If that makes you the "bad guy" then so be it. Decide if you want to go and be miserable or stay home and be the "bad guy".

Parents can drive you crazy sometimes, with all the theatrics. Make a decision and move on!

My Grandmother is 91. Still very sharp & lives on her own. She is hard of hearing. When you call her she says hello & when she know who is calling she will talk 10 min straight & then say good by & hang up on you. So if you have something to say to her you have to find a place to interject it really fast & get her attention.

I go through this with my Nana. She will ask me something, which will lead to another question. Then we start with a discussion, then leads to another question. Then after exhausting the topic, she asks me the original thing again. :confused3

What does this the most is anything to do with politics or religon. I know I know, two things you shouldn't discuss with her.

The other day she said she what did I think about petitions? I asked her what she meant. She then told me that she didn't trust them because they were selling her name to the republican party for money and trying to turn her into a republican. I then told her they can't do that unless you sign a voter reg card. She then said no, its a petition. We went round and round. I explained how the petitions work, that you need to read them and sign if you would like to see it on a ballot. And that does not make you a Republican. That they are not voter reg cards. She then proceeds to ask me what did I think about petitions? :confused3

I love my Nana!
