Those of us in possible Frances path...what are you doing to get ready??

We live in Windermere. Windermere is just north of WDW. I just put all of my important papers in large plastic tubs. I put the tubs in the laundry room since it is interior and has no windows. I removed all the little things and put them inside pieces of furniture. I put all my pictures in another plastic tub.

I've packed clothes, flashlights and a battery operated TV/radio. We will be checking into AKL on Friday with a reservation through Monday. Someone mentioned earlier that they didn't know if Disney would be any safer. It may not be. Who knows. AKL is a bigger building than my house. I have nothing for my windows. Gee, I don't even have curtains on half my windows yet. After taking everything down and putting everything else away, my house looks like I just moved in. Sad. I've worked so hard on it.

We have plenty of water. I hope we have enough food to last until things return to normal. I've been freezing ice as fast as I can make it. I don't know what else to do.

I feel really guilty about boarding the animals. If anything happens to them, I will feel so bad. DD probably won't speak to me again. Then again, she doesn't want to ride it out at home again. Not after doing that with Charley. Fortunately, during Charley there wasn't a lot of thunder. Our dog, Griffin, is so afraid of thunder. They will sedate him somewhat prior to the storm. I hope he doesn't freak out to much. We almost lost him earlier this week to an allergic reaction to an injection. He's been through enough.

I don't care if I look like an idiot. As soon as this is over, I'm having those automatic hurricane shutters installed on my house. Maybe that will be enough to ward off any more storms.

Good luck to all!

Just sending good wishes for all those in the projected path,
stay safe ::yes::

My son and his SO are part of the touring company of "Dora The Explorer Live" currently in West Palm and headed next for Ft. Lauderdale! My son called to say the hotel they're in is only rated for a cat 2 storm! I'm hoping the touring company and Nickelodeon won't want them in the middle of it and will order the cast and crew on busses or a plane, have them load the set and props and get the heck outta there but I don't know if they will.

Ok, worried mom vent over.

Hope they are safe.

I will be doing the same here. I don't care how much it cost. It's better than running around Home Depot getting plywood.

Well, we're taking a lot of stuff down there, because I'm hoping to be living there permanently by next spring. But, as with everything else, that couold change.

A hint for everybody...

If you need plywood, call around to ALL of the stores you are willing to drive to. I did that this afternoon & was lucky enough to find a store that had just gotten a shipment of plywood in. Even though I had to drive all the way across town (anybody familiar with Jacksonville will know that's about a 30 min. drive ;) ) I was still able to get 13 sheets of plywood, have the employees help me load it in my Explorer & tie the door down. Now that I bought $200 worth of plywood, the storm will probably completely miss us. :rolleyes: I also have water, canned goods, batteries... the usual. DS is supposed to have a Boy Scout canoe trip down the Suwanee this weekend...NOT! No official cancellation yet, but I just can't see us going. :( Anyway, call around if you need supplies- it may save you a lot of hassle! Good luck everyone! :wave:

Now it looks like Melbourne will be spared the eye of this SO FAR. I'm trying not to breath too much since two days ago it was coming no where near us, then near us, then to Jax and then back right over us again yesterday and when I went to bed as well, I wake up and see it's south of Vero. I'm sending my prays out to the ENTIRE state of Florida, keep safe fellow DISer's please stay safe, keep updated with news, etc and follow all orders. We are under a Mandatory evac here for coastal, islands, mobile homes and special needs by 2pm today. Me, I have to work overnight Tonight... urgh or else I would be outta here.
Our in-laws should be here in 1/2 hour to pick up our pets to bring to Gainesville.

Now they are predicting landfall in the northern part of my county. It keeps dropping south! I am very freaked out. It is so hard to do all this alone with no one to help you. I asked two guys to help me but I am the last one on their lists. And I just discovered I am one board short so one window will have nothing on it. I don't want to ride this out alone in the house with dd but my family is in South Brevard County. That's where they were predicting it would hit yesterday. Not sure it would be safe to go there. ACK!! I don't know what to do.
