I understand that late Aug/early Sept (labor day weekend) is going to be hot and humid..Is it as hot and humid as the NY/NJ area is right NOW (7/09-7/11)?? Or less so?
I am just trying to gage how to pack/dress and since it is so hot and humid now, I'd like to know if this is what we are in for?
Thanks!!

I live in Philly - and it is hotter in Florida in August than it has been here now.

It's been a while since I've been in Florida in August, but from what I remember, it's hotter and more humid. I do live in NJ, so I'm comparing it to here.

We were in WDW last Aug (21-28)
Oh WOW it was HOT!
I would say it felt a little hotter than our heat wave in NY/NJ.
But it wasnt bad enought for me to stay away this August, We will be back!
Enjoy

Yes, it's like this. More sun, usually.

All you will need are shorts and sleeveless tops or t-shirts.

If you get chilly in restaurants bring a sweater. You sure won't need it outside, but some of the thermostats indoors are set on "meat locker."

We almost always go in August. It is as hot as our hottest heat waves (I live at the NJ shore.) The humidity takes your breath away when you walk outside the first time off the plane. I bring those spray fans for the kids and changes of clothes into the park because they wind up in every squirt fountain we pass. It's a good time to go though. The parks aren't usually too crowded because lots of schools are back in session. We hit the parks early and try to be at a water park or the hotel pool by the hottest part of the afternoon.

I was there in June (10 years ago) but it was hot...think sauna hot...think hot, humid and then hot on top of it...think hot, hazy, hot, humid and hot again...think I got the point across.

We each took 3 showers a day when we were on our Disneymoon, one before leaving, one midday during our break and another at night. Luckily they have laundry there. :laundy:

We love to go in August and we are from Queens.
As for the heat i think its as hot or hotter than NYC but i never felt the humidity was worse.

It's hard to gauge because it's brutal in NJ right now. It's about the same in the parks, but usually sunny and you have to walk a bit. But most attractions are in air conditioning and on main street the air conditioning blasts out.

That being said, we'll be the end of August because ds6 doesn't go back to school until 9/10. We usually are at the park when it first opens and do a whole day until they kick us out. Then we do a sleep-in relaxing day at the pool.

It's a lot of time to go back to your room for a swim at WDW.

Just drink a lot and make sure everybody wears a hat.

hotter than "heck" . you need sunscreen with spf. also, look for undergarments one hundred percent cotton. t shirts / tank tops / shorts in light weight mostly cotton is best. don't worry about a fashion statement during day. you can dress for dinner if you like.

I think the humidity level is about the same. The difference to me is the sun, it seems a lot more intense than in NYC. Pack light but bring a jacket because every restaurant is super air conditioned.

I stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in 05 in August and it was brutal hot. As soon as you steppedo ut of the room, you were soaked and in the crowds, it was rough. To keep the trip fun, we went to the pool in the mornings then showered & headed to the parks in the afternoon to evening. Alot of people headed out first thing and because of the hot, pooped out by early evening. But you'll be in WDW so even hot & sticky is better there!!!!

Orlando's summer does not compare to what NY/NJ has to offer.... its sticky...and they have more rain showers then us.... so my advise, pack a couple of ponchos and get one of those mister fans; it helps out alot when its just way to hot... :) ps: leave the hairspray at home! :lmao: Have a great time!

Yes it is very hot and himid I was there in September so I believe August will be worse. But who cares that is when we are going last week of August. We live in South Jersey. Wear light colored sleeveless clothes and go back to the [pool in the afternoon. Take it easy on the kids. Otherwise they will be cranky!

I live in CNJ. It is hotter in WDW in August. You will need light colored clothes, spray fans, a hat or visor and plenty of water and sunscreen.

Thank you everyone!! I thought that's how hot it will be... it is our first family trip to WDW so we are all excited!!
I already picked up ponchos from Target, got the mister fans too!!

I used to live in south NJ, now I'm in the Orlando area. Expect low 90's and thunderstorms daily. Florida heat is different, so be prepared. Bring sunscreen and expect to change your clothes several times a day. This is the first year in forever that Florida schools aren't going back in late July. No school district in Florida starts school until August 20th, so crowds should be lighter than usual when you go. Enjoy your trip!
