Those electric vehicles at the parks?

Ok, we're leaving in 4 days and my DH may have torn a ligament in his leg. I'm not so sure about him doing all that walking in the parks and my DS is so looking forward to this trip that I really don't want to cancel. Can anyone tell me about renting those electric vehicles in the parks? I THINK they are available right? Is it first come or can you reserve one? And does anyone know the cost?

Yikes I can't believe this! THank you!

It is first come first serve. If memory serves me correct it was $30.00 a day, and there might have been a deposit too. Hope that helps.

Yes you can get them in any park. I'll move this over to the Disabilities board because you can get some great help over there. Thanks for posting and have a great trip. :D

Thanks for the answers and moving the post so I get more. I appreciate it.

Do they "sell out" frequently? Do we need to be there as the park opens?

Thank you!

They do "sell out" depending on how busy the park is. They usually aren't gone until around noon or so (at least for AK, which is the only park I can judge by!). They rent for $40, and you get $10 returned to you when you bring back the ECV, the key, and your receipt. They are transferable from one park to another the same day, based on availability once you leave the first park. If you know you are going from one park to another within an hour, we can call to the next park, and if they have one, the will hold it for you for an hour. I wouldn't say that you need to be there at park opening, but there is a limited number of ECV's available at the parks. Once they are rented out, we have no idea when one will be returned for the next possible rental. Hope this helps!!

Thank you so much - everything I needed to know. I feel much better now. Hopefully he'll be doing better but I just can't imagine he'll be able to do all the walking required at the parks.

And thanks again everyone - I do appreciate the help.

Have a good evening.

Good luck. We just got back from WDW and the weather was very nice.
If worse comes to worse, they seldom run out of wheelchairs, although you would get tired from pushing one.
You might want to take the phone numbers along with you for the off-site places DIS posters have reported renting ecvs from:
CARE Medical Equipment - 1-800-741-2282
www.caremedicalequipment.com

RANDY'S Mobility in Kissimmee 407-892-4777
http://www.randysmobility.com/

Walker Medical - 1-800-334-9501
www.walkermobility.com

Colonial Medical
http://www.colonialmed.com/about_cms.html

That way if you find he really can't get by without one, you might be able to arrange to get one delivered to your hotel.

SueM - Thank you for all the phone numbers. My DH was referred to a specialist and is there right now so we'll know more about how bad his injury is. Hopefully we'll be able to rent the ECV's at the parks but are the Disney Buses equipped to load these? We'e staying at CBR. I've never had to deal with this challege before this so I just don't know much.

I've got small kids, one who is 20 mos so we'll also have a stroller. I think we're really going to have to get the ECV if at all possible 'cause I can't push them both :)

Also, I don't know where to go at the parks to rent them. Is is near guest services or the stroller rentals?

CMChristy - so if you work in this area at AK perhaps we'll see you and can say "hi"!

Thanks again everyone. It's nice to have a place to get some many answers before we go. It really reduces the stress level :)

Hi again everyone.

I found a great thread and the Dis page which answers all my questions. I've even talked to Walker Mobility about delivering one to the hotel. Thanks so much. I've learned a lot about this issue this morning.

Take care.

Please feel free to say hi to me! I work every morning there except the weekends. You rent the ECV's in the stroller area of the different parks.

Turns out we are renting from Walker so he can have the ECV all the time but we may just stop by and say "hi" anyway! I'm planning on attaching a lime green ribbon to the stroller in the picture below :)

Take care!

i'm not sure that your other question got answered. The WDW buses will be able to transport the ecv for you. Almost all the buses are equiped with lifts or ramps (most are lifts).
