Those darn rabbits!

I went to the Agway store and the woman said that red pepper sprinkled all around the border of the garden and close to all of the plants should do the trick. She said that it would be cheaper and wouldn't smell as bad so that's what I'm trying. I so hope it works.

We have a lot of coyotes around here I'm surprised that we have so many rabbits around here. They were very scarce about three years ago and the last two years they are in abudance. I see three or four at a time in our yard.

I buy the big containers of Black pepper or Red pepper flakes at Bj's and sprinkle it around.
:thumbsup2 2nd this. We would get the big containers from Costco or Sam's. We did find that we had to reapply after a good rain.

Ty I'm going to have to try this

What about squirrels...they are eating my tomatoes and they do not like to share with me. It is very frustrating. They climb on the plants to get the tomatoes. We would have to have huge cages to cover the plants.

We had great success with marigolds and Ivory bar soap--just chop up into smaller pieces and sprinkled around. No more rabbits!

Do you have any pets? I was told to put the hair I brush off of the dog around the garden...the scent scares animals away. I guess it works because I haven't had a problem with the rabbits and we have tons in our neighborhood! I also plant marigolds around the vegetables and geraniums around the patio (geraniums ward off mosquitos).

I have the same problem. Try putting ziploc or glad bags around the tomatoes when they're still small. I use the sandwich size and just enclose the tomato. I prefer the glad bags with the "gripper zipper" so that I can center the bag on the tomato and enclose it loosely on either side. I re-use the same bags from year to year.

It looks weird but it works. :)

I agree with this. We have dogs and NEVER have rabbits in the yard. My in-laws have even asked to have our dogs come over for a few hours at a time. They walk around the yard for awhile and their scent scares off the rabbits.

If you don't have your own dog, could you have a nearby neighbor, friend, or relative, walk their dog in and around your yard daily? Or ask them for the fur from their dog brushes? The sprinkling of fur may sound gross if it's not your animal, but if it works and saves you tons of money, why not? I know that when I use the Furminator brush on my dogs, I would be able to give you enough hair to DEFINITELY last a growing season!

I sprinkle cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes in my flower beds. I go to Sam's club and buy the large size container of it. It keeps skunks away from the flower beds as well as stray cats.

Marigolds are great for keeping japanese beetles from devouring your rose buds. I plant 4 marigolds close to the rose bush and I don't see any more beetles.
