 Since Disney is charging those ridiculous holiday surcharges at their buffets during the busier times of the year I just wonder what they might think about given a discount on those buffets during the slower times of the year. Sure they do give us Free Dining in September, but there are slower times during other parts of the year too. I know, pigs will fly first!

Not gonna EVER happen. Its all about the almightly dollar. Those holiday price increases are building the resort in Hawaii. If anything, people will get use to these increased prices, and disney will later on(maybe next year) just decide to keep those prices year round. As long as the seats are still full, and money is coming in, thats the bottom line!

What type of resort in Hawaii? Does it have anything to do with the two new ships being built? And I wonder if they are doing this sort of thing at Disneyland?

beats me as to what type of resort. Hit up google. Disney bought like 15 or so acres of ocean front property. They gotta get that money from somewhere.

The Hawaiian resort will be DVC--that is how it will be paid for through the sale of points.

Not sure what they are doing about surcharges at Disneyland, or why it would be relevant.

I do know that they have a "dining plan" at Disneyland, but it is strictly a prepayment deal with little to no savings involved. At WDW, guests can still realize significant savings with the 2008 basic dining plan depending on how they use it.

Sorta. You can't say there is nothing connection the fact the dining now saves disney a TONS of money(making the guests pay for the tip, and no app), the fact they now have this holiday price increase for weeks at a time, and disney is suddenly spending MILLIONS in Hawaii. Come on, you just have to connect the dots.

I personally think that it was just a PR problem, see if they would have just raised the prices for the Buffets, waited two months and announced a discount during 'non-peak' times, people wouldn't have as much to complain about.

As for Hawaii, as already mentioned, it is DVC, so it will pay for itself during the sales of it, they are dumping the $4 dining into the new HSM IV movie! :rotfl2:

If WDW food service management wanted to charge less during the non-holiday season, they would simply lower the regular meal price and have a surcharge during holidays.

The fact is that they are running a decent capacity during normal operations and are being overwhelmed at holiday periods.

The surcharge during holiday period for buffets only seems to have the dual purpose of increasing income for the buffet restaurants and shifting some of the demand to other available dining venues.

No dots to connect IMHO, however, the great savings of the $1.00 from the plan will sure to be exactly what many will be leaving for tips--besides the surcharge is just a way to keep the tips up during busy season and only affect buffets and served family style pay one price venues--you know the ones everyone debates and wants to leave 10% for--by adding the surcharge the tip goes up a bit with no more work involved.

People seem to forget the principal of supply and demand. Even with the changes to DDP, the truth is more and more people were eating in the restaurants and they were being booked solid with no walk up availability. If they make it less attractive they will still run high occupancy, plus they make more money off the DDP.

Truth be told it is bad PR for guests to walk up to every restaurant in Epcot adn not be able to get a seat, so free up a littel availability and make more money off cash guests and DDP holders!
