Those #$%& BUGS!

Picture this, it's the end of a long hot day. You drag yourself back to OKW.

You're reaching for the doorknob, knowing that there's a blast of air conditioning on the other side. That's when you spot IT.

It's the Queen Mother of Bugs. It's just sitting there, or flying by, daring you to open the door. In it's best Clint Eastwood voice, it taunts you with "are you feeling lucky???"

Just a warning to any of you who may end up being my neighbor. If you hear a blood curdling scream, that will be me encountering my foe, the Bugmeister.

I swear that darned thing waits for me every time.

I have to say, we've never had so much as a gnat in the room.

Have any of you ever encountered the Godzilla bug???

We just returned from our first visit to OKW, and we didn't meet the Godzilla bug, but we did have a little lizard in our bathroom for 3 days until I got the nerve up to get rid of it. Most of the time it sat under the counter, but a couple times it made its way up on to the counter and scared me half to death when I'd go to pick something up and it would run across the counter. I think next time I will request upper level rooms and hopefully the critters don't make it up that high.

We are home now at OKW and inside our room is "bugless" but our front door treshhole is a welcome mat for alot of the Florida little creatures. We have a few frogs, small gray lizards, larger black spotted lizards and a whole bunch of snails all along the sidewalk. The boys love all of them and it takes a bit of arguing to keep them outside and not inside in a jar!inkbounc inkbounc

Our neighbors stayed at a building near us earlier in the month at OKW. They unscrewed the bulb in the nightlight so there would be less bugs around the door. We tried it, and it worked pretty well.

This thread is an absolute hoot! During our years as FL residents (at Vero and New Smyrna Beach), we became intimately acquainted with the local wildlife. The worst, for me, were the palmetto bugs -- roaches on steroids. Nasty -- you'd stomp 'em and they wouldn't have enough sense to die. They's just crawl off anyway. Lizards galore; and there was that fateful morning in New Smyrna Beach when I got up and ran across a little black snake in the middle of our great room. Sleep tight, all you who prefer ground floor rooms! Welcome to the "real" Florida!

Oh, yeah -- love bugs are the worst. They're like an Old Testament plague, and they will RUIN the finish on your car's paint.

Those little lizards have no problem climbing the walls and getting into your villa. So second floor dwellers beware!!!

I drive to WDW every year from NY. 2 years ago I was running very low on gas and HAD to stop at the next gas station. I pulled up to the pump and they were everywhere. The entire window of the gas attendents booth was covered in these hate bugs. I ran, slid my credit card through and started pumping. I was literally covered in a matter of seconds. I only pumped a few gallons until I could'nt take it any longer. Reminds me of The Birds. I swatted away as much as I could and got my butt out of there.

As for OKW, they are all over the place. We do visual body checks with the family as we enter because there is always 1 or 2 on us as we come into our room. The fun of it. Luckily, it does not last for too long.

I find this thread really funny becuase I just returned from my first trip to OKW. After reading these borads for 3 years, I have never paid attention to any posts about bugs and critters at OKW. We had two 2nd floor Studios and were constantly battling with the bugs - both inside and out. For me it was no big deal, but for the ladies on the trip it was quite a nightly ordeal. I guess it will be back to BWV or VWL until I get a guys only golfing trip together........

Who mentioned the #$% love bugs??? We leave Friday for a long weekend & I had better not see any on this trip!! Last September we saw more in those 2 weeks than we'd ever seen in any of our previous trips... so this had better not be a repeat Hey, all I can say is lizards & hot summers go together like peanut butter & jelly... you can learn to like them LOL....

What's really scary is that some breeds of these "palmetto" or "water" bugs (really huge roaches) actually fly through the air. Quite a shock when you're in their flight path.

We always ask for the top floor. The stupid, nasty, overgrown, ugly bug still manages to find me, and it always waits right at the door as if to say "HELLO LADY. HERE'S YOUR WELCOME HOME!"

I've only experienced love bugs once. I shudder at the thought!

Dvcreg, the palmetto bugs are roaches on steroids; the love bugs are gnats on viagra. When my kids were little, they really made a nice object lesson when I got around to doing the"facts of life" talk. BTY, there's evidence that they're making their way up north. The little beasties are seasonal, emerging twice a year.
