We saw this last night and it was awful. Is Disney capable of producing a good film? So many things wrong with Thor. Very disappointed...

Meanwhile viewed Minions recently and couldn't stop laughing. Very entertaining....

We saw Thor also. I loved the first 2. The last one was "meh" and this new one was seriously cheesy. So many dumb jokes that fell horribly flat. I don't want a jokey Thor. Taika Watiti ruined the series for me.

And if I had to hear those stupid goats scream one more time, good grief!

I thought it was great - probably not as good as the previous Thor: Ragnarok, but still very entertaining. Maybe a middle-high tier MCU movie. I do understand though as not everyone ia going to get Taika's style and humor. It's not for everyone, though personally I think he's brilliant!

We all loved it. I actually don't like when superhero movies take themselves too seriously. My son just bought the Lego set yesterday.

Taking superheroes too seriously is a real problem. I've loved superheroes my entire lfe, and I've seen how the comics changed from very light, fun reading to very serious and overwrought storytelling. The thing is, the very concept of the superhero is silly - ridiculous even - so when you try to make them too grounded and real, they break under their own rules.

When you're talking about a guy who dresses up like a bat and knows karate going out into the streets to fight crime, if you want that to be realistic, then he gets shot first time out - the end. It simply can't work that way, which is a big problem the DC Comics movies have is that they try to make things too real and serious. The MCU keeps it light and breezy, and yeah, some of it doesn't make sense, but they just wink at the audience with a, "yeah, we know, just go with it," and everything works.

We are the opposite - the first two Thor movies are among my least favorite of all the Marvel movies - just sooo slow and boring. Thor Ragnarok is probably in my top 3 Marvel movies. Love and Thunder I didn't like as much as Ragnarok but still far better than the first two. Thor is supposed to be cheesy and silly. This one did feel a bit uneven though. I missed Loki. And as much as I usually like Natalie Portman, I can't get into her character in any of the Thor movies. I thought the goats were hilarious!

I agree. The first two Thor movies, while still good, are on the lower tier of the MCU (thogh I do like The Dark World more than most people seem to). Ragnarok really injected some verve into the franchise, catapulting it to top-tier for sure - it's so much fun! Love & Thunder doesn't quite live up to that, but is still really good. The goats, Toothgrinder & Toothgnasher, stole the show!

This one is pretty divisive from what I can tell.

I enjoyed it myself (mostly) while in the theatre, but by the time I came home, I was like "you know... that wasn't that great." Wild tone shifts are very on-brand for Watiti, but it just didn't seem to work this time.

I can see that. It's definitely more uneven than Ragnarok was, and there were a few plot threads I felt they should have ran with a little more. usually I think movies these days are always a tad too long, but they could've used an extra 20 minutes to circle back on a few things (maybe they could have cut elsewhere). I still really liked the movie though, and the is plotline was handled WAY better in the movie than it was in the comics (as is typical for the MCU).

Exactly!
Anyone who tries to take comic book characters too seriously has a problem as it is, if you ask me.
Got to consider the source material and realize, they are supposed to be cheesy and fun and silly, and ridiculous, and if you can't get that, then maybe this type of movie isn't for you
I think they get it perfectly right with these movies.
Is every one of them great? No. But every one of them falls in the silly and ridiculous realm well

I had the opposite opinion. My wife and I enjoyed Thor but thought Minions was awful.
Minions and Thor have grossed roughly the same $$$. Although Thor cost more than three times the bucks to produce.

We wouldn't have bothered if not with a group for a birthday. Disney films were once must sees but no more. I miss the days we were excited over a Disney movie being released. Now the kids don't even care.

FWIW

Thor: Love and Thunder has just broken one of Marvel's own records at the box office – this time, however, it's not necessarily the kind of record you want to break.

Following its impressive opening weekend raking in $144 million from cinema-goers, Forbes is reporting that Taika Waititi's Ragnarok follow-up has suffered a drop in earnings of 68% in its second weekend.”

I really enjoyed the latest Thor movie, and I was doing the Roy Kent chant (see Ted Lasso) well into the next day.

Agree to both of these. Loki was the much-needed acting substance to balance out the gorgeous but not so great acting of Chris Hemsworth.

Natalie Portman and her wooden performances. Don't get me started.

I saw it opening weekend. Just watching Chris for two hours is enough to make me happy LOL. That said, I think the first Thor film is pretty weak. I liked the 2nd and loved the 3rd. I enjoyed this one and the final scene was marvelous. I love funny Thor, but I do think Taika (who I also love) tried a little to hard to make it funny, and ended up making Thor just look dumb in some scenes. Overall I liked it, but it was not the greatest.
Edited to add, Yes, Loki is very missed, Chris and Tom are a fantastic team.
