Thongs on board?

There was a middle aged european couple at the adult pool on our cruise last fall, he- very very hairy in a speedo, she- overflowing from a bikini. Whenever we saw his hairy speedo'd body enter the pool, we would cringe a little.
But I'm sure kids wouldn't think twice about them, thats just OUR hangups.

OMG !!! I just peed a little! My thought exactly.... When I see a man wearing a speedo, I throw up a little too! It doesn't matter how great his body looks. Most American women just don't think it looks very masculine. This really has turned into quite a fun thread hasn't it? Doesn't matter what I see when we cruise.... I'll have fun no matter what! If I see a thong wearing woman, or a speedo wearing man... I think I'll just smile and take a ton of pics.... then I'll post them all here for everyone to see.... then we can all come back here for great laughs!!!

Your dd sounds like mine - I can just see her saying, "What's wrong with her swimsuit? I can see her butt - she needs to put more clothes on!" or, "Mom, why is that man wearing such a little swimsuit?" We are going on a Med crusie so the thong/speedo issue is probably going to be more prevalent there. One more thing to add to the list of "different experiences" (along with topless sunbathing on beaches, watching out for pickpockets, meal choices and times being different, etc.) to prepare her for in advance. We teach our kids, including my teen girls, to be very modest (but fashionable) in dress so I know this will be quite counter intuitive for her.

Fun thread! Personally, I hate seeing men in Speedos. I think "Board short" stye suits are much more flattering. Plus, at least here in the US, speedos look very dated - a throwback to the 70's. Unless a guy is truly in buff shape, speedos look awful. Nothing worse than seeing some middle age man with a huge beer belly hanging over a little bitty suit. well, maybe a woman who is long past bikini days trying to squeeze into one . Some things are just better left to the imagination.

We aren't a nudity "concious" family...I think that you may see anything, and kids react how their parents do. If you say, "OMG...that girl is wearing a thong!" Your kids will all look (they may not have even noticed) and will react as you do. I usually just make a "fact of life" type comment..."We run into all kinds of people from all kinds of places. In some countries its common to wear suits like that." and leave it at that. I have a son that is 12, and while I try not to expose him to things like that, it happens...no big deal.
