Thomson Dreamliner - Oxygen

Sorry, I know this is a rather random question and I'm not holding out much hope for an answer but it's always worth a shot!

My MIL who is travelling with us next month requires additional oxygen during the flight. Usually this is a cannister with the little tubes that go into your nose (sorry I'm not sure off the proper name!), however she was told last week that they don't have cannisters on board anymore (or perhaps this is limited to the Dreamliner - I'm not sure) and she is now led to believe that she's going to have to wear the oxygen masks that come down from overhead for the entire flight. She's rather worried about this as, as you can imagine, thats neither going to be practical nor comfortable for her for over 9 hours.

I'm hoping that the person she spoke to just didn't know (the details they gave were rather sketchy, which is why we're not sure either way - only that it's not a cannister) and that perhaps the oxygen is inbuilt but not full face mask type. They did move us from our orginal seats and this may be why.

Has anyone had an experience of this? or perhaps seen another passenger with oxygen onboard? Just hoping I can put her mind at rest, or at least give her a more definite answer.

Thank you :)

Hi Ro

I am sorry to say I have no idea either way, but if it were me I'd be sending them a message on facebook about it. The team on there seem very switched on and if they can't answer anything they tend to go away and find out then private message you.

I just don't trust ringing up and asking someone over the telephone as you get so many differing answers!

Hope your MIL gets sorted out - it won't be nice having to sit with a mask on the whole flight .

Ah thank you, I never thought of trying their facebook page! Shall try that. Thank you! :goodvibes

No, I certainly wouldn't want to have to sit there with a mask on for that long either, so can completely understand why she's worrying. Fingers crossed though. It does seem a bit strange on such a modern aircraft so I'm thinking it's more than likely the person on the phone didn't have a clue.... I hope so anyway!

They will have provisions I know but she may have to get a letter from her GP / consultant to say that she needs it. The hospital here may be able to sort it out for her or give her advise.

They must have the provision to provide oxygen during the flight. It sounds as though your MIL wears nasal cannulae for oxygen delivery. The overhead masks would be entirely unsuitable for her. Just keep plugging away at the airline!

Thanks, yes it was requested upon booking as the TA had to call and book the oxygen specially as they can only have so many people on a flight requiring additional oxygen. Drs letter was sorted at the same time. She's had to use oxygen on flights before, including Thomson to Florida, however they didn't fly Dreamliner then so it was the usual cannister.

Thanks, yes they definitely have to provide the oxygen and yes that's the one! Nasal Cannula! That's what she's worrying about though, that it won't be that and she'll be stuck with a mask on which like you said, wouldn't be suitable at all.

Have messaged on facebook now too, so fingers crossed for a reply soon.
