Thomas the Train-wooden or die cast?

Okay ,here is my question.If your kids have Thomas the Train do you buy the wooden set or die cast?And why?My DD2 has asked for Thomas the Train for Christmas and I have bought her six pieces in the wooden.I also have an off brand wooden track(someone gave me).I have noticed that everywhere that I have looked around here they only sell the Die cast.I am second guessing myself thinking I should have gotten die cast.

Wooden....hands down. The track for the die-cast set is cheap and breaks easily. The wooden will also work on TTT tracks or off brands like imaginarium (sp?). We buy our wooden trains and tracks from Toys R Us, Books a Million, Hallmark shops and on-line.

I prefer the wooden. I don't know why--I just do.

For some reason I think it is safer for the real littles..but not really sure why that is or if it is true.

At the time we bought our first and only set--there was a bigger variety of options. And you can also mix it up with other wood train sets--so you can offset the cost by mixing in basic pieces from other sets (like the track or small buildings) and then safe the money for the character trains and teh really cool buildings.

In our town parts are available at TRU and Barnes and Noble.

My target has a pretty good selection of wooden Thomas. Maybe try there, or online.

For DS's 2nd b-day, we got him the wooden EVERYTHING for Thomas. I really loved the quality of those sets. When he was a little older (I'm guessing 4, maybe), he started getting into the metal sets. Then we ended up with a lot of that too.

Our target does not carry the wooden ones.TRU does but the closest one is 45 minutes away.I ordered the ones I have already bought from creativetrains.They were slightly cheaper than TRU.

Definitely wooden. You can find it at most higher end toy stores, online, and at Toys R Us.

Our oldest got his first train set when he was almost 2, he is now 14. My kids all played with the wooden Thomas trains and friends. Yes, the paint on the trains and buildings is chipped, but they're still great. My kids are no longer interested in playing with trains, but we're keeping all of them. They can have them when they have children of their own.

I found BRIO's track to be better made and more durable, but that's just me.

We have had both for many years. Wooden, hands down. They are much better made (as long as you don't put them in the dishwasher ). The die cast ones always ended up breaking. I'm going to pack my dd's set (about 5 years old) up and put it away for her kids.

Definitely wooden, Ds has both and he prefers the wooden. I bought him a compatible wooden track & train table at Costco for $100. TRU around here sells the wooden trains, Target only has the die cast. We've also bought some at Barnes & Noble and a few hobby/Train stores. Sometimes a DVD or tape will come with a free train. And of course we always get a couple at our annual Day Out With Thomas trip. DS got his set right after he turned 2, he'll be 6 in a couple of weeks and he still loves them.

Well, I think you have your answer. Wooden. They are a little pricier but worth it. We plan on keeping all our Thomas and saving it for Grandkids. It's an heirloom-type of toy, if you get the wooden.

Wll okay I feel better about my decision.I am going to stick with my decision.I will get her the Thomas track or Brio track for her birthday(March)and stick with what I have for now.Yesterday she saw Santa and told him she wants Thomas trains and a blue car.

definately the wooden. I just bought dd a train table at Target for $69 and grandpa is buying her the wooden train set at Target for $40. It has 100+ pieces and I know she will love it!

They used to make these big chucnky platic that ds used to play with all the time but they dont make them anymore. ThHis was before Thomas got popular and we had to order them from the UK.
