Share price collapsed this morning down 76%, wonder if they will be taken over. Hope they can sort it out.

Talking about it on Sky news now, saying its still a good business and expect it will get thru with a bit more borrowing.

Ouch, regardless, this is a big blow for consumer confidence in a notoriously difficult industry. Package holiday's are rock solid as they are covered by ATOL but if booking flight only through them then there is potentially a bigger headache.

As someone who was on the verge of booking my flights through Netflights, for a difference of less than £15pp I'll now be booking direct with the airline instead.

That said, if I'd already booked with them I'd not worry unduly, I'm sure it'll all be fine for TC, but in the current climate I'm just not willing to take any unneccessary risks if it can be helped.

As Disneymad said, TC packages are ATOL protected so unless you booked flights only, you will be covered.

my mum works for co-operative travel who thomas cook have just bought out and they are not as optimistic - emergency managers meeting called today and at least 200 shop closures !!

i hope the banks help but with the face value of the company being so low how much money will be enough ??!!

I work for Co-op Business Travel so i'm in the same situation as your Mum. Wish Co-op would just buy us back

I work for Co-op Business Travel so i'm in the same situation as your Mum. Wish Co-op would just buy us back

I do hope it is good news for you. Do you know how people stand if booked through direct hols? Rang them yesterday and they told me nothing to worry about (suppose they would say that anyway).

Sorry i'm not sure. Ever since the take over we just get very vague updates (lots of words and no information!). My business travel team is still report to MCS head office even though we now part of TC.

I'm a little out of touch with the holiday shop side of things as I've been doing business travel for 11 years now but my understanding is that if a tour operators collapses you would have to pay yourself to re-book but could claim your original money back from ABTA. Or if a travel agency collapses you should be able to deal direct with the tour operator to continue with your booking.

Hope everything works out for the people who have bookings with them. I worked for them for a few years and have a frozen pension that I paid into during this time (up to 2002) so if things do go belly up, don't know where you stand with that.

Secured new funding so they should be OK for now. I knew I should have bought some shares at 10p, would have nearly doubled my money this week.

I had the exact same thought, I could have been rich by now *grumble grumble*
