we arrived safely in detroit from Orlando yesterday (despite airline bankruptcies and mechanics strikes) after our 3rd and final trip to WDW for this summer (we head back across the pond on wednesday after a bit of power shopping today and tomorrow in suburban Detroit)..
anyway....some dining highlights from our visits this summer:
(Since we spent our last visit at the GF, most of the highlights are from there...)
Citricos - perfection - this was our first time at Citricos....the food is wonderful....in fact it was so good, that we even ordered private dining from Citricos to our room.....(my daughter hates eating in restaurants, which is the reason for our being such heavy users of the GF's private dining services)...
since i don't eat meat, i tend to have salmon at almost every restaurant i eat at....the salmon at citricos was actually beyond perfection....the most delicious sauce i've ever had with salmon...
the cafe restaurant at the GF (i can't remember the name of it - serving breakfast, lunch and dinner - the equivalent of a hotel coffee shop) - really top notch.....my sister had a hamburger that she said was delicious.....i again had salmon...this time it was more italian style (the sauce was tomato based with ratatouille)....also excellent (though not anywhere in the league of the citricos salmon).....the restaurant itself is lovely and the service was wonderful....
1900 park fare character breakfast buffet - horrible - worse than horrible...the worst character buffet we've ever done.....definitely NOT recommended.....the food was bad and the selection was limited...
Chrystal Palace character breakfast buffet (at the MK) -- wonderful....we really really enjoyed this breakfast....a nice selection of very good food....much much much better than 1900 park fare...
Prime Time Cafe -- we ate here for both lunch and dinner....lunch back in July with the whole family and dinner two nights ago with just me and my sister.....i was actually surprised at how good the dinner was....i wasn't really expecting all that much since i go to the prime time more for the (fun) atmosphere than the food-- for lunch i had a tuna fish sandwich (it's not on the menu....i asked if they could prepare it and they did...)....it was excellent...in general, the tuna fish sandwiches i've had at WDW are better than anywhere else, though i've never been able to figure out why..
for dinner the other night with my sister (who came down to be with us for the weekend), i again had the salmon which was surprisingly tasty....as i said, i wasn't expecting much from prime time food....it was really good and i would definitely order it again....and of course i had my requisite chocolate milkshake...the best on property....thick thick thick and no doubt horrifyingly fattening.....but hey...it's vacation...
also, both the waiter we had for lunch and the waitress we had for dinner were 'fun'....lots of harrassment.....my sister, who had never eaten there before, really enjoyed it...
Earl of Sandwich (DTD)- we ate here about 6 times over the course of the 3 trips - always tuna fish sandwiches....which my son now fantasizes over....he wasn't with us on our most recent trip to WDW (just my daughter and me), and the thing he missed most was that silly tuna sandwich....if you like tuna, you'll love this sandwich....probably the best tuna we've ever had anywhere...apparently their other sandwiches are also good..
GF private dining - out of this world...the best private dining on disney property....excellent food and service....as i said, my daugther hates eating in restaurants, so over the course of the 9 days we were at the GF, she ordered from private dining at least once a day (sometimes twice)....if you use this service, ask for Howard....he was our favorite waiter....
Gasparillo (GF over the counter) - the best thing about this place is that it's open 24 hours a day....i love being able to just pop in for a snack or drink.....
and the staff here is wonderful...always smiling, always helpful....actually the staff throughout the GF is smiling and helpful....for that matter, we've always found that to be true at every WDW resort we've stayed at...
but in any case, the Gasparillo staff always is willing to go that extra mile for all requests....
i think i covered the other restaurants we ate at in my earlier highlights post...
