I was just out taking my dog for a quick walk (I work from home on Thursday) and passed by a woman pushing a small enclosed stroller (with mesh windows). It looked too small for a child, so I assumed it was for a small dog, like I’ve seen before.

To my surprise, I glance in and see a cat sitting in the stroller. 🤣. I don’t know why I found that funny, but it is possibly the first time I’ve seen someone pushing a cat in a stroller. I’m not a cat person, but is this something that is often done?

Less than dogs but not unheard of…

I have a couple of friends who have been known to take kitties for a stroller walk, and have been doing so for at least 5 years. The walks started when the animals were new kittens, which I guess is why they tolerate it.

My cats would never cooperate. If they see anything resembling a closed carrier, their tiny minds immediately chime "VET!!!" and they go to ground for the rest of the day -- can't even lure them out with food.

My favorite is the cat backpacks with the bubble people take when doing little hikes! Talked to one of the owners and she said the key was she raised the cat so it was used to the backpack from a young age. Cat seemed pretty content, she had a leash for it as well to use when she felt it was safe to take the cat out.

Come to NYC for the iguana in stroller views; so special.
Iguanas in strollers? I definitely have to ask DS if he's seen that. He lives in Queens-can't figure out what counts as NYC-is it the 5 boroughs or just Manhattan?

I've seen a cat in a mesh stroller, but only once in about 50 years.

I see a lot of the screened in pet strollers on the bike/walking path at most of the campgrounds I visit. I'd say it's about 25/75 cat/dog ratio when I can actually see well enough to notice. Most of the cats I know would not play along with stroller rides, but I see it often enough that it seems some of them will play along with proper training.

I'm on a rabbit care message board and some people report taking their rabbits out in mesh strollers. I guess some tolerate it OK, but most on the board advise against it. Being prey animals, rabbits are always on the alert for danger. The smells and sounds of the outdoors can be scary to a little bunny rabbit. That said, I do like seeing dogs enjoying their stroller rides. I can't say I've ever seen a cat being pushed around in one.

The five boroughs combined equal NYC proper.
And trust me, there are special people in each one but somehow more in Manhattan.
If he hasn’t seen a lizard stroller yet he’s surely seen someone wrapped in a banana constrictor. Gotta keep your eyes open during the summer, lol.

My daughter has a cat stroller. She lives in the city, cat is 100% indoors at it should be, but the cat loves going outside. So in the stroller she goes and enjoys her walk.

We saw a lady with a bird in one of these at Target one time.

I don't mean for this to sound like bragging, but I was in Korea and Japan recently, and lots of people were pushing around small dogs in strollers. Not as many cats, but a few.

Maybe it’s something you can start at your pet shelter lol

Just wear long sleeve shirts the first few times you try to put a cat in one

Not sure if he’s still around, but there used to be a guy who walked around Manhattan with a cat on his head. DH used to see him regularly, going to work.

I do not have a pet stroller, but my cats have always gone out in the yard on leashes. Letting them roam is frowned upon here, but they do like the fresh air, so it works for us. (Plus, it guarantees I make a little time to be outside as well.) Mostly, they just explore the yard or lounge in the sun while I read, but the one I have currently has been know to prance over to the neighbors' a couple of times.
