This time we did it right! (Updated 3/2!)

Just found your TR and I have to say fun people make fun places!! I'm glad you had a good time regardless of the rain, check-in, etc. It's Disneyworld, that's all you need!!:cool1: Thanks for sharing your trip with us!:thumbsup2

woot woot! fellow polack here! i've always wanted to go to the food and wine fest just to go to the polish station. did you try the food? i like to imagine that the pierogies are just not the same as homemade... just so i'm not so bummed about never being able to go.

I'm ashamed to admit that I did not try the food in Poland. The selections they had were a cabbage roll with spiced beef, pierogies, and paczki; all of which I have eaten countless times in my life! I was tempted by the paczki, but I had already eaten lots of dessert!

Sounds like all of you are having a blast! I am glad you got to ride EE in the front.:thumbsup2 Still ovin' the pics...popcorn::

EE in the front was the best!

EE Rocks!!! I think it is my new fav, also! I love going backwards! When we rode, we got the Dream FP for the whole train when we stopped - so it will always be my fav! I don't know how you could snap those pics w/o dropping the camera. Glad you had such a good time - I hope those glasses helped you map out your day! :lmao:

You're right...EE Rocks! The backwards part SHOCKED me! So cool that you got a dream FP on that ride.

The glasses helped for sure!

Oh, and those were Beth's pics...I'm not crazy enough to risk my camera for those pics!

Nice pictures from the top of EE. That ride was a little more intense than I expected, so we only rode it once this summer. I'm thinking about seeing if Drew will ride it with me on this trip. I need one more time to make up my mind about it for sure. I'd like to ride it like you did - from the front - to try and get a good picture, if nothing else.

It had to be exciting waking up at Animal Kingdom Lodge, knowing there was wildlife right outside your door. What kinds of animals did you see that first morning?

You should definitely ride it again! You might like it more when you know what's coming!

Definitely try to ride in the front...you'll be able to if you get there first thing!

In the morning, we saw Watusi, giraffes, and ostriches. I didn't get any pics. I don't know why. :confused3

Great EE pics! Sorry I wasn't there to do your hair :lmao: What ride would you compare EE too? I'm a ride wimp but MUST do this one!

I really could have used you on this trip, Leyla! My hair was atrocious! I am so not used to humidity and rain!

Yes, you MUST do EE!!! Have you done Rock n Roller Coaster? EE is not as "bad" as that because on EE you don't go upside down. You'll love it!

Great update! Isn't Everest the BEST?! We sat in the last car and got whipped around those curves real good, and had an AMAZING view of the Yeti! Next time I definitely have to try the front to get all those great views out over the park.

Looking forward to more!

Yes, Everest is the best!

I would have loved to go in the back car, too. Next time!

I loved EE, and can't wait to ride again, I am going to try for the front car if the wait is not too long, I never thought about taking pictures on the ride, did you use your camera or a disposable? I would worry about dropping my camera.
Good thing you had your glasses with you, the writing on those park maps can be awfully small.

If you get there at the park opening, the line for the front car won't be bad at all!

Beth took those pics, not me! I was too chicken! I thought I would lose my camera for sure.

Those glasses were lifesavers! :rotfl:

Great update! I love the pictures - especially during EE! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to read more. popcorn::

Thanks!

Haha Animal Kingdom is awesome! I love those glasses on you guys consulting the map!

Those glasses kept us laughing!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

You're right, all you need is Disneyworld...nothing can ruin that!

I don't have time to do a whole installment tonight, but I thought I'd share a pic of one of my purchases from Animal Kingdom.

I bought Indy a new collar:

PB070230.jpg

Unfortunately, however, Indy is not sporting his super cool Mickey collar this week because he was neutered last Friday. So here's a pic of Indy with this week's neck fashion, designed to keep him from licking/biting at his missing parts!

PB070234.jpg

He looks MUCH happier in the Mickey collar. He knows what's up!

First of all.... I LOVE the pic of the baby with the glasses. SOO CUTE!! And he is a really cute baby.
2nd of all---DH and I were at Epcot for the beginning of F&W Festival. Did you try the raspberry wine at Poland---really good. We also liked the Pomogrante (sp?) kir(s) (because there were multiple ones) in France. and DH of course liked the beers from Sam Adams and the World of Beers. We did not get to try much food since we had just eaten and were not that hungry but I did try the truffles at the champange booth which were very good but I used a snack credit to make the cost worth it. Well, I also tried the champagne also...we came home with a huge bar bill...hahaahah...which does not take much at Disney when everything is $10 a piece.
I wish we had more time at the f&W fest...but there is always next time---hopefully.
DH says it has to be a while before we can go again...he is not a lover of WDW but went for me since he knows I "love" it.
Keep the trip report coming...I love seeing pics of AKL...we were going to stay there but were concerned about the buses since we were not going to rent a car. We ended up staying at the Boardwalk Inn...which we loved for the proximity to Epcot and MGM and was real easy to get to MK.

As a man, all I gotta say is OUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH;)

Indy, I'm here for you man.

He's got his pain pills and his Mickey collar...what more could he want? Don't answer that!

Those glasses. I'm thinking this is definitely not the last we'll see of them.

What a crack up.:lmao: :lmao:

You might be right!

Poor Indy! His mom went to WDW and all he got was ___________:sad2:

That is so sad.

Awwww Indy! Love the collar but he doesn't look too happy in the next pic! He is a cutie!

He doesn't love the blue floatie around his neck. He's seen the Mickey collar, and that's all he wants!

We didn't try the wine in Poland...we had always had too much already by the time we got there! It sounds delicious though.

The money at the food and wine fest does add up quickly.

We used the buses a little bit at AKL and they weren't too bad. The car was definitely faster in some cases though.

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

I’m home sick from work today so I have time for an update from my sickbed. Those kiddos I work with are so cute, but they’re always getting me sick! So much for the flu shot!

After consulting the map, we decided that we would get FPs for Kali River Rapids. However, when we arrived, we saw that it was a 5 minute wait! There was no sense using FPs for that. After a brief discussion, we decided to brave the rapids. We struggled to get the ponchos on again, and Beth was given a very important duty in the line.

PA260100.jpg

We walked right up and got into a boat/tube/whatever. I had brought a dry washcloth with me, so we wiped off our seats with it and wrapped ourselves nicely in our ponchos, and we were off. For about 30 seconds. Then, right before you make the big ascent at the beginning, the ride stopped! And the rain started! So here we are sitting in the rain in our Kali boat/tube/whatever dreading whatever was to come. As we sat there, I decided to remove my socks. So I took off my shoes and socks, put the socks in a safe place, and put my shoes back on. I hate wet socks! Meanwhile, there was a family of 6 in our boat/tube/whatever with 2 teenage girls. Now, I’m sure that I had an attitude problem as a teenager, but I don’t remember it that way. Well, these two girls were scowling the entire time! Come on! You’re at Disney World! You can at least try a neutral expression if you don’t want to smile, but the scowls have got to go.

After about 10 minutes, we were on our way up the big ascent. On the first drop where you can get soaked, guess who got soaked? If you guessed the scowling teenage girls, you are absolutely right. I chucked to myself just a little.

At some point, a big gush of water came in right between Sarah and me and got right up under our ponchos, so our bottoms were pretty wet. Beth’s right side got pretty soaked. And Jason got approximately 4 drops of water on him.

We got off the ride and decided to go back and use our EE fastpasses. We walked right up with those FPs and the cast member told Sarah and me that we should go to the first car! So lucky! Beth and Jason were in car 2. As we were waiting for the first car, I noticed a young girl and her dad waiting for row three. I asked them if they wanted to try the first car since we had already done it and they were so excited to try it! So we switched. I did get a little better view of the Yeti being in row 3. And the ride was still super fun!

We took a pic somewhere along the way. You can see Beth's super wet right side from Kali!

After EE, we headed over to the Safari to get FPs. We were all STARVING at this point, so we headed over to Flame Tree BBQ. I just love this place for lunch.

Along the way, we saw DeVine.

P1020938.jpg

I had the chicken meal, and the rest of the group had the ribs meals. All very delicious. And their cornbread muffins are soooo good!

P1020939.jpg

PA260106.jpg

Toward the end of the meal, a very sweet cast member named Jaci came up to our table and wished Beth a happy birthday, then asked why there was no dessert on Beth’s tray. She then admonished the rest of us for not buying Beth a birthday dessert and asked Beth if she preferred cheesecake or key lime pie. Beth chose the key lime (my fave) and Jaci disappeared for a minute. When she returned, she had a slice of key lime pie and had everyone at Flame Tree BBQ sing happy birthday to beth.

PA260114.jpg

That was so very sweet of Jaci.

We attacked that key lime pie and then headed over to It’s Tough to Be a Bug.

PA260116.jpg

I love that show more every time I see it! It was Sarah’s first time seeing it and it was great to see and hear her reactions when the little surprises would happen!

I just love the movie posters here:

PA260117.jpg

PA260122.jpg

Something's not right about this picture...

PA260121.jpg

We headed back over to the Safari and on our way there, a guy was standing outside of Flights of Wonder saying that the next show would start in one minute. I have a long-standing fear of birds, but I put that aside for the rest of the group who wanted to see the show.

That show was pretty cool. I didn’t know birds could be trained so extensively. But I have to say the birds get a little too close for comfort when they’re doing some of their tricks.

PA260124.jpg

After surviving Flights of Wonder, we went over to the Safari to use our FPs. I don’t know if it was because of the rain or what, but there weren’t many animals in view at all. I have seen many, many more on other trips. And our driver. He was terrible. He had no emotion in his voice the entire time. You would never have known there were poachers if not for the warnings before you get on the ride.

PA260126.jpg

Oh well! Still a cool ride!

Some pics from the ride:

PA260138.jpg

This baby elephant was trying so hard to climb over that tree trunk!

PA260135.jpg

We then checked out the Pangani Trail, where I fell in love with some gorillas!

P1020967.jpg

Beth and Jason decided to go home at this point to check on the baby and they would meet up with us at MGM later on.

Sarah and I headed over to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. The train ride was nice. But there wasn’t much going on over there when we arrived. Maybe because it was later in the day? I had a delicious Mickey ice cream bar, Sarah had a Mickey ice cream sandwich, and Sarah bought a bottle strap so I wouldn’t have to carry her water bottle around for her anymore!

On our way out of the park, Sarah needed caffeine (she still hadn’t gotten any since the bad coffee in the hotel room), so she got some at Pizzafari. After paying, she waited no less than 10 minutes for them to hand her hot water and a tea bag!

Upon leaving Pizzafari, the skies opened up and it started POURING. We traded the tea cup back and forth as we put on our ponchos as quickly as possible. Then we walked as fast as we could without Sarah spilling hot water all over herself to the MGM bus. Luckily, the bus stop was covered, so we removed our ponchos, shook them off, and put them in their zip loc bags. The bus arrived just a couple minutes later and we hopped on and headed for MGM, the home of my favorite ride in the whole World!

Hooray for the polacks! I enjoy Polish food myself, but since I spent most of the holidays with my dad's family, I am more versed in Italian food. We do have a very good Polish festival near us every July. There is a Slovak festival too with similar, but not as good, food. The town I grew up in is nicknamed New Britski because there is such a large Polish contingent.

So sorry you're sick, but......good for us, we get an update.

Every time I see those glasses.....I :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I wonder if you take your pic by the Italy fountain?

Those glasses are literally the greatest ever! :lmao:

I've never seen Flights of Wonder, is it any good? I wonder why it took so long to get a cup of hot water! What a pain. It sounds like you all had a great time at AK regardless of the wait and the rain. I can't wait to read more!

And I'm also home with the flu. UGH, it's the WORST!

I am lucky to have a mom who is half Polish and half Italian...she learned to cook Polish food from her mom and Italian from her dad and grandfather. So our holidays are full of Italian and Polish food. Yum!

There were great Polish festivals in Milwaukee and Chicago, but now we're in Phoenix, so no such luck!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

I'm glad you're enjoying my sickness. :lmao:

You should have seen the looks we got when we put those glasses on Blaize. Some people laughed, some looked like they wanted to call CPS!

You'll just have to wait and see about Italy...maybe there's something better!

Flights of Wonder was good, if you're into birds. I had to try to put my phobia aside to enjoy it.

I have no idea what was up with that hot water! It was sitting in the coffee pots just waiting to be poured!

There are so many sicknesses going around right now, it's gross! I am just going to stay in my bed this whole weekend! I hope you feel better soon!

I just read your whole TR. I am stuck at work till 8 working extra. :( The glasses are sooo stylish. :)

Hi Julie- get better soon! The pics are great, love em!

Thanks, Leyla. I can't wait till I feel better!

I'm sorry you're stuck at work till 8! That stinks! Good thing you have DIS to pass the time!

I have to agree...those glasses are just the height of fashion!

Sounds like a great time at AK! I chuckled when the teenage girls got soaked on Kali River Rapids!

Flights of Wonder is on my list to see next time. I love to watch birds but just don't want them getting too close to me.

I love the picture of the baby elephant trying to get over the tree trunk and the gorilla by the waterfall - great pics!
