After driving for what seemed like FOREVER, we finally came upon this sign!
Let me tell you, that was a sight for sore eyes!
As we walked in the door, we were greeted by a nice young man from Namibia who said Welcome home. Ahhhhhh, music to my ears!
We walked up to the front desk to check in and everything seemed to be going smoothly. We were told that our room and the granny nannys room would be just 2 doors down from one another (good to have a buffer in between in the event of any late night crying!). That was good news. Also, Beth was given her Happy Birthday button.
Now for the (sorta) bad news:
1) we were put on the sunset savannah. I had requested the Zebra Trail. The cast member told us that we could switch the next night if we wanted to, but they were all full for tonight. Okay, fine, no big deal.
2) Beths birthday button was in Spanish. I said I guess youre trying to make us remember all that Spanish we learned in high school to the cast member. He didnt get it. No English birthday button. A minute later, I made some other comment about the Spanish birthday button and he said Oh, is it in Spanish? Uh, yep, sure is. He said Oh, I didnt even look at it. Still no English birthday button. Finally, after one more comment from one of us about the Spanish button, the cast member sighed a big ol sigh and wrote out an English birthday button. English birthday button obtained.
3) Way back in February, when I booked this stay, I had a mailer from Disney with a 40% off code and with an offer for a free photopass movie. The mailer said I would receive a code upon check-in to use for this promotion. The cast member said he knew nothing about this promotion and he didnt have a code for me. I asked him if there was someone he could ask for a code. He sighed again and said Hold on. Then he went to talk to a manager (I think), who looked like he was either hungover from last night or had already started on tonights festivities. The manager knew nothing about the promotion either. At this point, the check-in cast member said this was his first week on the job and he couldnt help us with the photopass thing. Okay, whatever, we just want to see our room!
We were finally all checked in (and warned not to change our clothes out in the open in our room because there are security cameras everywhere, and there might be animal-watchers with binoculars. Interesting.) We handed over our bag check slip to the bag services guys and made our way to room 4328 on the Sunset Savannah. Walking to the room, we saw tons of animals. So exciting!!!
We walked into the room and promptly found Mickey on our bed! (Insert gross comment here).
We just had to add some flare to Mickey.
The room was gorgeous. I loved the mosquito netting behind the bed!
The bathroom was great.
Even the refrigerator was cool. (No pun intended).
Checking out the view.
Our view.
Not too shabby!
I was in love already with the Animal Kingdom Lodge, despite the minor problems with check-in. We were tempted to stay and explore the resort, but everyone was starving and ready to head over to the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.
But first, I gave everyone their little bags I had made for them. In them were some super cool glasses, spider rings, fruit roll-ups, blister band-aids, shout wipes, granola bars, Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party (
MNSSHP) tickets, and I think thats all.
Beth had also made some bags for everyone. In those bags was candy, candy, and more candy, and some really cool skull rings with lip gloss inside.
Finally, we were off to Epcot for our first tastes of the Food and Wine Festival.
Next up: delicious food, groovy tunes, and tasty beverages. Oh, and a little rain.
