Hello all,
This seems like the place to ask these questions. I am looking at going to Disney in Orlando next year, the week of July 11th or 18th, are these good times to go, what problems will I run into, what are some good things about going at this time. Has to be then or later due to my 3 kids (13,8,5) will be in school then baseball ends around July 4th.
Also what are some of the better deals, on grounds or off grounds, we have gone 1 time with our oldest and stayed off grounds just when they were building the wilderness thing. I liked staying off but I have nothing to compare it to.
We'll most likely be driving from Chicago, any words of advice there? Hope I could use this board as a good resource to plan this gift to my family. ( and myself! )
Thanks in advance,
Garrett

Welcome to the Disboards.

This is a great place to find out lots of info and will definately help with your trip planning.

We have been the past 2 summers the week of July 26th thru early August. Not too mention the 20+ other trips many years before. We are strictly "stay on WDW property" vacationers. There are many good deals and in our opinion there is no comparison to the Disney magic.

Keep an eye out for some package deals. This made our vacations very affordable. The summer before last Disney offered the FairyTale Package(pay for 4 nights stay for 7 including UPH for length of stay), this summer the package was pay for 5 nights stay for 7(again with ultimate park hoppers). There are also room only codes that come up for certain months. This past July and August there were pretty good deals on rooms on property.

A great way to start is by reading lots on these boards. Also check out Mousavers.com. Then decide how long you want to stay, what type of accomodations would suit you best, how many days you want to go to the parks, etc.

Happy planning.

That is a long drive from Chicago. I have done it a number of times, but never with a bunch of kids. Most of the time I was the kid. (I now live in Oswego, so I'm your neighbor ;) ) Definitely bring lots of activities for the car, and I would recommend stopping for a night or 2 on the way down. It definitely breaks up the day and will keep the kids from going crazy, or maybe you from going crazy. LOL

This is definitely the place to come for information!

We really prefer staying onsite with kids. It makes it so much easier to go rest or split up the family--DH stays with older ones while I take younger ones to rest.

And I love not worrying about transportation.

Good luck planning!

It should go without saying but it will be HOT during that time of year. An even better excuse to stay at a Disney Resort so you can take an afternoon swim or lunch at the resort instead of the parks. Think about renting points from a DVC member and stay in a 2 bedroom with the 3 kids.

You do have the Vacation Planning Video from www.disneyworld.com - right? If not order one, it will help with some of your questions/concerns and help you ask questions and resolve details you never knew you had.

Planning is a big piece of the fun. Enjoy!
