This Season's Clothes are Awful!

I was thinking the clothes were more 70's, at least around here they were. In the 80's here it was the preppy look--I can hardly wait for that to come back so I am in style again. I tried shopping a couple weeks ago and couldn't find a thing. Went through the entire Mall of America and another mall in MN and couldn't find a THING. Even DD had a hard time finding something she liked and she is 13.

You are right, 70's. anyway, I hate them.

You mean you never had an IZOD sweater tied around your shoulders that matched your leg warmers! :lmao:

Some guy at work has an Izod shirt that I swear I had the same color in 1981!

I've been having a really hard time finding clothes that I like.

I saw some shirts that were kind of loose (but not baggy) and had the vertical slit at the neck that I kind of liked. They were all in solid colors though.

I'm tired of the itsy bitsy stretchy shirts that have been around for a while. They're fine for teens but not for me!

I used to love Jones NY Sport. My closet is full of shirts from previous years. I noticed last year that the shirts were longer and more narrow, but it wasn't ALL of them. This year the shirts are horrible! :scared: They are way too long and skin tight! I wear a size 10. The L shirts are too small. The XL shirts are too big in the shoulders, come down over my butt, and look ridiculous. I don't know who decided this was a good plan. This is not a brand targeted to juniors! I have seen a few of those maternity tunic looking jobbers, and those don't do it for me either!

I don't know what brand I am going to be buying now, but it won't be Jones!

no no the clothes are definitely from the 80's. I was at Marshall's today and saw bags with alligators printed on them (think IZOD). Boat shoes (SPERRY brand) for men. And get this a wooden handle plaid purse. I had this in my preppy phase when I wore Izod polo shirt with collar flipped up. Remember the preppy hand book. Everything was pink and green.

I am SO SICK of those shirts that have empire waists and tie in the back. They make me look pregnant and I'm a size 10! Who can wear these? They are really cute on the hangar or mannequin.

I have gotten a couple tops that are really cute-the print is more subdued and doesn't make me look pg.

Have they brought back the shoulder pads? Remember when everything had shoulder pads? They used to make me look stupid because I am short.

Mary

Yep, Bermuda bags are back. I saw sveral at SteinMart, but no replacement covers. Heck, that was the fun part, gettting a new cover! I'm tired of the plaid shorts that come to your knees and make you feel the need to put a wide load sign on your butt! My rear is not oversized but it sure looks like it is in a pair of those babies! I admit I miss the preppie look, to me it was just clean and classic. Older DD (13 next month) likes it but refuses to wear it to school, boo hoo. Younger DD 11 hates it. I'm laughing my rear off though as I purchase Sperry's for all of us! When my Mom passed away in '01 I discarded an old pair of mine from the 80's that she used to garden in!

I'm a chubster and those empire waisted shirts just scream "trying to hide the jelly rolls" when I try them on. Plus, the prints are awful.

I mostly shop at Talbot's as I prefer a more classic look.

I hated those cloths back THEN! I do not think I would care for them now! I have my own style thou, I always have to "alter" what ever I buy just to meet my needs!

I LOVE the preppy stuff. I have a pair of plaid Sperrys that I bought at Dillards last year for $6!!!!!!!

They're full price again now! I just bought DD the plaid flip flops. Over $20 in the kids sizes.

I rather more classic clothing as well. The prints/colors don't bother me at all. I hate how many of the new shirts all look like maternity clothes! We've been trying for our second child for almost 2 years and we recently learned that DH has some fetility issues. Many people know our story and the LAST thing I want is for someone to think I'm pregnant!!

I saw those wooden handle purses with the button-on covers at Marshall's! :rotfl2: I had one of those when I was in middle school!

I do like Talbots, but when I was in there the other day all of their tops seemed to be fine gauge "sweater", which will not work for me. I need polos or T-shirts, not sweaters!

All of the loud print, high waist shirt that make everyone look pregnant. They just are NOT attractive on anyone!

Seriously! And it's hard to find a blouse or top that isn't like that!

I never change my style. When the early 60s are in style I buy a ton of stuff and then just wait until they come back again (or go to vintage store).

That's my era no matter what is going on everywhere else!::yes::

I don't like the sweaters either, but there were plenty of T's and polos when I was there a week ago. (The bill that arrived yesterday certainly reflects that. )

BTW, if you don't see what you want but they have it online or in the catalog, you can order it at the store and only be charged $6 for shipping. :thumbsup2

I agree with you. I hate those knee-length plaid shorts that are everywhere. I want plain, neutral-colored short (not TOO short) shorts and was finally able to find some at NY&Co. I couldn't find anything at Macy's or Dillards. The shirts are all either too long or that weird style where they are blousy in the middle and tight at the bottom. I was able to find a few things at Express so that and the clothes I bought a few years ago will have to get me through the season I guess.

I LOVED the clothes that were out year before last and now I'm wishing I'd bought more. It seems it's either feast or famine when it comes to fashion.

I've said it before: I'm no fashionista.

But I do prefer 80s styles (for the most part, and minus the shoulder pads) to the other decades. Probably because that is the decade in which I spent my second decade of life.

So, :welcome: welcome back, 80s styles. I missed you. I'm happy to see you again, even if I'm too old to wear you now. :) And I'll be happy to see teenage girls looking like girls - with a waist! - than I have been with these low-riding, roll of fat hanging over them, no waist to be seen, pants and shorts.
