I noticed on David Parfit's recent thread about his Williamsburg trip, that there were lots of Virginians on the boards. This question is for you. :thumbsup2

We are headed there (Colonial Williamsburg) in a week and I was wondering how the temperatures have been at night. I have checked the weather. But, you know how it is. The same temperature can feel different in different climates depending on the humidity or lack there of.

The reason I am asking is because I am pregnant and I have not bought any longsleeve maternity clothes yet (still hot here in Texas). I am wondering if I should go ahead and buy a longsleeved hoodie for the evenings.

What do you guys think?

The weather here has been absolutely beautiful. Since you're coming from Texas I'd guess you might want a hoodie (or other type of light jacket) at night. Our daytime average this week has been about the mid-70's and at night it's in the low to mid-60's. As a native, I'm perfectly comfortable, my my relatives from your area would totally think it's chilly.

I hope you have a great visit! If you're visiting Duke of Gloucester street and want a truly local experience, go to the Cheese Shop for lunch one day and Aroma's for coffee. Aroma's is actually one street over from Duke of Gloucester. And if you want any other local or insider tips, just PM me. I've lived in Newport News (about 15 minutes away) for 28 years and worked in Williamsburg for five. DH actually worked at the College of William and Mary.

Have a great visit!

It's still summer so although it's been in the mid 60's at night, it's a summer 60's which to me always feels warmer than a spring or fall 60's.

I'm still wearing shorts & flip flops even when I take evening walks.
You should really enjoy the evening temps.

Depends, do you get cold easily or not? I do and go no where without a long sleeve something for evenings. Also, I find the restaurants always cold so another reason I always travel with something.

Your coming at a great time, expect days in the high 70's low 80's and evenings in the 60's, maybe a night or two in the 50's. Crowds in W'burg should be pretty low..

Let us know if you need any more info on the area..

Wow, that weather sounds great! I am pretty far along in my pregnancy (AKA hot all the time) so cool evenings sound heaven sent.

Thanks for the replies.

I had read about the Cheese Shop and thought about picking up something from there our first night as we get settled in. Glad it has the approval of locals! Always a good sign. Thanks fort he tip about the coffee shop as well.

Since I have you locals on tap right now I will keep picking your brains. :goodvibes Anybody know a good place to eat in Virgina Beach (we don't typically eat at chains)? We will be there one day (probably at the aquarium) and maybe let our 4 year old play on the beach for a while.

Thanks

Don't know any restaurants at VA Beach but there is a really good candy shop on DOG street also. Would you believe I've only been to the beach area once since we moved back here and we went to the Melting Pot the weekend we were there.

Enjoy your trip.

I would still bring a light jacket, just in case. You never know. Shoot, I bring one when I go to WDW and it is suppose to be in the 80s. Again you never know.

Captain George's is a decent seafood restaurant though pricey. I never eat at Virginia Beach so that is all I can tell you.

I am not from the area but was in VA Beach Labor Day weekend for the Rock N Roll Half and had a great meal at a restaurant called Mahi Ma's. It is a seafood restaurant on the boardwalk but they have a full non-seafood menu also. The sushi is priced pretty well and you get 8 pieces per order instead of the 6 most give you.

There is also a Greek restaurant very close to the pier at 14th street named Ammos. I had a very good meal there also.

There's a great place a couple of blocks off of the beach called "Beach Pub". It's a locals hangout and has wonderful food at reasonable places. Now, it's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination..actually it was built in an old beach house, but the food is great. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The temps have been really nice lately, but I would bring a light jacket for the evenings.

Enjoy your trip

Weather has been gorgeous. I am hot natured every day and I would recommend bringing a light jacket.

I have been to a place called The Jewish Mother at 3108 Pacific Ave in VA Beach. Enjoyed it. Basically a deli. Great time to be there. Most of crowd gone. There is the usual junk food on the "boardwalk" but I recall that there are some good french fries and some other things.

I've always really enjoyed The Raven (1200 Atlantic) it isn't a fancy place, but it is pretty close to the aquarium. Not fine dining, but a good beach place!

Also the Bakers Crust is good. It is a small Virginia chain, and very good. 704 Hilltop North Shopping Center in VA Beach. If I recall it is pretty close to the aquarium as well.

Thanks everyone.

I am printing this thread out to take with me.

I did buy a pair of maternity jeans and I am borrowing a light jacket. Does anyone know if the outlet malls near by colonial williamsburg have maternity clothes? We are not planning on going shopping. But I would like to know where a maternity store is near by in case of a wardrobe emergency :thumbsup2. I usually buy Old Navy or GAP maternity clothes.

Thanks again!

Yes, there's a Motherhood Maternity in the Williamsburg Prime Outlets. There is also a new shopping area off of 199 East near Water Country. There's a Target, JC Penny, and Kohl's.
