I came home from work and realized it was time to put my dogs monthly dose of Advantage on him. About ten minutes after I applied it, he started shaking his head. He kept doing it over and over. I immediately ran outside with him. I hooked up the hose and started washing it off. While out there, I was totally swarmed with lovebugs. There were all over me. There must have been a hundred sets of the stupid things around me. I had on a white shirt. We have a white fence and a white garage door. Lovebugs really like white!
When I get back inside, I look at the Advantage box and realize that it is an old box that was still in the cupboard. I have no idea why we still had it. The expiration date was 4/14/04. I called the vet and they told me to immediately wash him with Dawn dish detergent. So, I threw him in the shower and washed him with Dawn. I wasn't about to face the lovebugs again. Then, I washed him again with his shampoo to remove the Dawn. The vet said to take him to the emergency clinic if he started acting any stranger.
It has now been an hour. He seems to be okay. His is no longer shaking his head and, he just ate part of my dinner. Needless to say, I threw out the old Advantage and we are going to wait a few days to apply the new.
Now, I need to put the hose away. It is lying on the driveway, but I don't want to face the lovebugs again tonight. I will wait until it gets dark to put it away. Then, I'll just have to face the mosquitos. I already have several of their bites, so no big deal.
Oh, the dog is very clean and my bathroom is a mess!
