love love flying fish. we've been twice and booked it again for our fall trip. i've had (or tasted off my husbands plate) the tuna, diver scallops, wrapped snapper, and a oak grilled sword fish. all were great. i love their crab cake (had twice), and tried my husbands mussels and his cheese plate on our trips. all were good. the service was fantastic both times we went. we like to go there on our dhs day since it's just a short walk or boat ride. i'm sure you'll like it. have fun on your trip.

I voted for the snapper if it's your first visit since it's the signature dish but since I've been there so many times I myself would order the chefs thunder (the bass). I rarely order steak at WDW because it is so incredibly boring but the strip at FF is probably the best I've had at the world.

My husband and I loved Flying Fish during our visit in 09/2004 (before we were married). Going back in 3 weeks with our 2 boys (and I'm pregnant). We are on the regular DDP but using 2TS for this one (and Hoop dee doo - gives us more open nights to just wing it with counter service and not be so scheduled).

My question is not necessarily entrees, but are there an appetizers worth paying OOP for? I don't care for mussels, so please don't suggest that one ;).

Also, since we get dessert, looking for your favorites.

Thanks!!!

I thought the ugly tomatoes and mozarella was quite good.

As others have said, the menu changes often, so the suggestions you get might be moot. I've had the rare tuna there, and it's awesome. The steak there (I know you aren't looking for that, though) may be the best on property, definitely close to it.

I'll offer you something different, though. When I went in July they had a seasonal drink menu, and they had a "peanut butter freeze" martini. Best drink ever. Chocolate and nutty liquors, mixed with real PB. Tasted like a liquid Reese's cup. Friggin awesome.

For dessert, we had the almond creme brule. We aren't huge creme brule fans, but this was incredible. Think biscotti-type flavors. We didn't order dessert, but it was my birthday, so they brought it with a candle. First, that was really cool. Second, it was REALLY good. We'll definitely order it next time we go in November.

Try the tuna dish, it was fabulous. We also started with a cheese plate and it was one of the best ones we had all week. One of the few places that give you 5 cheeses to sample.

I go to WDW several times a year and nearly always eat at Flying Fish at least once each trip. However, I can't seem to get away from my favorites. Every time I walk in there I swear I'm going to try something different, but for some reason just can't.:rotfl: For me it's always a choice of three appetizers: tomato/mozzarella salad, mussels, or cheese plate. Then for an entree it's either the scallops with risotto or steak, depending on which risotto they are serving that night. I don't care for the english pea risotto, but love the pumpkin sage risotto I've had a couple of times.:cloud9: Their steak is better than any steak I've had on property and that includes the steaks I've had at Yachtsman, Jiko, Citricos, California Grill, Le Cellier, or Narcoosee. For dessert I always get whichever trio they are serving that night or a cheese plate. I think they are probably tied with California Grill as far as having the best cheese plate on property. If I don't get it for an appetizer, I have to have it as dessert.:rotfl:

We have been many times. One thing I order often is the tomato mozzarella salad. I know, sounds boring, but theirs is different from any other I've had and sooo good. The mussels could make a meal, and DH loves their calamari. One time we ordered two apps and two sides and dessert, with a bottle of wine. The sides were (I think) roasted asparagus and mushroom risotto and were amazing and big servings.

As for entrees, I have had the Thunder special and the sauce and vegetables with that are so good I don't even remember much about the fish. And the scallops with risotto still haunts my dreams, probably because I don't eat rice anymore.

Their pastry chef is one of the best at WDW, if it's still the same young lady. We once had a peanut butter chocolate bread pudding dish there that might be the best thing I've ever had. No longer on the menu, though.

And you can't go wrong with their wine list. When in doubt, ask. They're good with recommendations.

Can you tell we love this place? We are hoping to go to the Signature Dinner there in November, and I'm going to miss the regular menu!

Ive seen pix of the yellowfin tuna on the Food Porn threads here on the DIS and it looks fanatastic!
Other entrees that looked good off that thread were the NY Strip and the Seafood Orchietta!

I love a good tomato and mozz salad so thanks for the rec!!

Would love to hear more --

The Margarita Key Lime Pie looks AMAZING!! Saw it on the Food Porn Thread!

Oh, you'll love theirs then. They have the best tomato mozzarella salad on property. It has thick slices of yellow beefsteak tomatoes with big slices of the red ugli tomatoes alternating with big thick slices of fresh mozzarella, then little red and little yellow tomatoes scattered around. Then fresh basil leaves, peppercorns, sea salt, and coarse ground pepper all topped with the best balsmic glaze.:cloud9:

I'll be eating there Tuesday Sept 13th, then again Sunday Nov 27th. Can't wait!

Was it my pic of the margarita pie over on the food porn thread? Let me just add a warning or 2 about that pie. 1) If you look at my picture of it, the blackish/brownish stuff on the strawberry? Experience tells me...it's not chocolate. I found that out the hard way. It's actually black salt...which is rather unpleasent particularly when you pop that strawberry in your mouth expecting it to be chocolate. 2) those little swirls of sauce are loaded with tequila. I didn't really taste it in the pie itself but man when I dragged a piece through the sauce..WHOO :scared1:. I wasn't expecting it to be that potent! It's not going to get you drunk by a long shot but it was strong enough to feel the burn. Just things to be aware of so you don't make the faces and noises I did while a table of conventioneers watches. :rolleyes1
