Their menu changes quite frequently, so nobody can say for sure what'll be on the menu. Some of their most popular dishes (that usually stay on the menu) are:

-Mussels with pesto broth
-Crab cake
-Calamari with Asian-inspired accompaniments
-Cheese plate appetizer
-Tomato and mozzarella salad
-Potato wrapped snapper
-Char-crusted strip steak
-Scallops with risotto

Now that I see your poll, I voted "other." Just last week, I had a salmon dish that I really liked. It was served with corn pudding, mushrooms, and truffle oil.

1st time at Flying Fish Dec. 2010 (link below for our review). Will go TWICE our next trip.

If you like mussels, the mussels appetizer was heavenly... the pesto sauce was delicious. The crab cake was better than any crab cake even her in Maryland -home of the blue crab. The tuna was delicious, very fresh and tasty. DW enjoyed the snapper and I'll verify that as she shared a few bites... (I had to beg for a bite of the crab cake).

I voted for the thunder special just because it's different. I can't wait to go back in 1 month!

I didn't vote because I had the steak (which was fabulous) and my DH had the snapper (which he said was also fabulous). I don't eat fish, but that's obviously what the Flying Fish is all about. So, I would think that would be the thing to order if you like it. Enjoy. It's one of our favorite restaurants at WDW.

This is a very personal question - it all depends on your tastes. I will say that of all the dishes I've had there, the one that disappointed me the most was the char crusted steak which was a bit too "char crusted" (but not overcooked) and flavorless.

I try something different each time I eat at Flying Fish and my favorite so far has been the yellowfin.

I always get the cheese board here also; with the exception of V&A's, I think it's the best at WDW.

Thanks, everybody!

I love seafood, and only eat it at home maybe once per year (and even that is at Red Lobster, which isn't anything special). So I really try to order seafood whenever I am at Disney.

I also love steak, but I have that at home once per month, so it's not as special. I am not too crazy about other meats (chicken, pork, lamb, etc.). Although, I do love the macadamia nut chicken at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe--that's an exception.

Now, I am wishing that I was going to Flying Fish Cafe twice this trip! Too many wonderful things to decide. :yay:

I voted for The Chef's Thunder. I have never been disappointed with the night's special!

I've really liked everything I've ever had at Flying Fish. If I had to pick just one entree that's still on the menu, it would be the snapper. I love the leeks it is served with. The tuna is really good too. I also love the calamari appetizer.

I don't care much for fish usually, but I would happily fork over the $38 for the potato wrapped snapper again (and again).

Tammy

I would just ask your server or the Chef. They know what is fresh and usually make good recommendations.

Sometimes at Flying Fish I don't get an entree, but have 2 appetizers, cheese and dessert. Or 2 apps, soup or salad, and cheese. Every small dish I've had there has been great; entrees have been mostly very good, too, but some haven't wowed me (never had anything I'd describe as bad, however). I've never gone wrong with any of the "Special Thunder" dishes.

Other than V&A, it is my favorite WDW restaurant and always go at least once every trip. Their wine program is outstanding, too. 16 days until I eat there again...can't wait!

I said the snapper but DH is piping up and saying the NY strip, he has had it there three times and says it is out of this world and he plans on ordering it again in Oct.

Remember, they will let you swap sides..I was able to get the risotto from the scallop dish with my snapper.

Just check the dessert section to see if the margarita keylime pie is still there. Order 7 of them.

Flying Fish is our favorite place!! We are going in December and have 2 ADR's there!

I had the mussels appetizer (to die for, my husband kept dipping his bread in the sauce it was so good) and the potato wrapped snapper. Be warned that it's a fried type fish, I knew that going into it but I expected something a little different. It was delicious none the less!! For dessert they had a "trio" special that was boardwalk favorites, a whoopie pie, carmel popcorn mousse and a cherry limeade pop!

My husband got the caesar salad and the steak. He said the steak was better there than the one he had at the Yachtsmen Steakhouse the night before!!! The service here is also impeccable, I hope you fall in love with the place like we did!

I love their potato wrapped snapper, sooo good. All of their starters are great too, especially the mussels.:goodvibes

The potato encrusted snapper isn't just a meal, it's an experience. And please remember, people WILL look at you if you lick your plate clean. Apparently, it's not socially acceptable. :lmao:

this was our exact conversation at home.... he swears by that steak and talks about it all the time. i dunno if i'm willing to give up the snapper to try it--but the way he raves about it... i just might!!

Oh, you all have me REALLY excited now! Everything sounds so good, appetizers, entrees, desserts. I am psyched that we are doing the Deluxe Dining Plan this trip. I just may go back and see if I can schedule one more dinner at Flying Fish!
