This might be anti-vacation, but any healthy food recommendations?

It doesn't surprise me that there aren't that many people that think 'healthy' and 'Disney' in the same sentence but are there any other suggestions??

If you are on the QSDP, the Norway bakery has a CS choice that includes a sandwich which can be shared AND a choice of a salad, fruit or soup plus anything in their bakery. OK, so the bakery items aren't that healthy but we shared one dessert and saved the other for breakfast.

Wolfgang Puck had great salads. I had the curried chicken salad without dressing on the greens. Another night I had the salmon salad with the dressing on the side.

My DH and I like Sunshine Seasons the best for park eating. I usually get double side of vegetables.

Columbia Harbor House - Lighthouse and Tuna Sandwiches

Tangierine Cafe, Sunshine Seasons

Fruit Cart in Harambe

Resorts: I see you are staying at the Poly. I am not familiar with Captain Cook's, but I know that at POR and the values that they had a design your own salad station that was good. They also had really good salmon and sides.
Also, I was able to get things like yogurt, veggie sticks and fruit for my dessert with my resort CS if you are on the DDP. I figure dessert once a day is more than enough.

Character meals: Crystal Palace dinner is a family favorite. The kids like the characters and I find that they have plenty of healthy options (shrimp, salmon, fruit, salads etc...) Of course, there is plenty of mac&cheese and pie too!

You could always pass up a Dole Whip Float in favor of the pineapple on a skewer!;):scared1:

I find that I can easily get healthy food options when we eat at Boma --salmon, chicken, grilled vegetables, couscous, salad, TONS of fresh fruit to eat for dessert.

You can not really go too wrong with CHH in MK, the hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw. It's so delicious with a nice side of grapes or carrots.

also I suggest Tangierine Cafe which offer up

Shawarma Platters- served with hummus, Tabouleh, and a Tangierine CousCous

Specialty Wraps - served with Tangierine Couscous salad and Lentil salad

Vegetable Platter - falafel, tangierine couscous salad, hummus, tabouleh, lentil salad and marinated olives

Also Chefs de France has (for lunch)
Salade Nicoise - salad of selected greens topped with tuna, tomato, anchovies, cucumber, potatoes, celery, eggs and black olives served with a light vinaigrette dressing

Salade de Chevre Chaud - Baked goat cheese with walnuts, fresh grapes, tomatoes, endives and arugula salad

The Wave at the Contemporary Resort is delicious as well.

I'm not one to talk about healthy, but when you're offered dessert at every meal for the DDP, sometimes you want that bag of apple slices instead of fries at counter service locations.

Just sayin'. ;) I've found that I like the fruit and veggie snack carts at the parks, and I thought my sustainable fish at Sanaa was a disgustingly healthy choice. (Not to mention outstanding in flavor!)

My most recent "healthy" meal at WDW a few weeks ago probably was the salmon entree at Sunshine Seasons food court at the Land pavilion in Epcot. I asked for the sauce in an "on the side" container, and I'm glad I did. The salmon was good but the sauce would have killed it (for my tastes) if the cast member ladled it on. Some of the salad entrees are good, too. Probably some of the best healthy choices in all of WDW are found here, IMHO.

Beach Club Marketplace has a create your own salad. I love that salad and will definitely make special trip there next time I go to WDW for one. Chicken, egg ,sunflower seeds, spinach, they have great toppings, and your choice of greens.

Boardwalk bakery has a mozzarella and tomato panini.

Kimonos at the Swan has sushi if you are into that.

Roaring forks has salads and veggie sandwiches.I tried the sandwich, pretty good. Haven't tried the salads there though.

I think California Grill has some things on the menu that don't look too bad.
Hurricane Hannas usually has a veggie wrap on the menu.

Actually you could even make the skillet healthy at Whispering Canyon if you just stuck to the salad, baked beans, corn and chicken.

I think Disney has a lot of healthy choices available.

A PP mentioned Crystal Palace... I 2nd that!

The Wave is a bit misleading, I think...it has new-agey descriptions and tossed around lots of folksy-pseudo-healthy-sounding words on it's menu like "organic" and "sustainable" etc. Course, if you look a bit more closely, it's talking about "organic" fusion vodka on the drinks menu, too, lol. Love the stuff, but not sure vodka really makes the list of health foods. Ditto with the filet...and the desserts are every bit as decadent as all other Disney desserts.

It's really just a steak house...love the place - have eaten there several times - great food, but also plenty of butter/fat/oils on the foods just like every other Disney Steakhouses.

The lunch salads are good at the wave..particularly the chicken one. Plus it's yummy.
But the desserts....ummm....richest cheesecake I have ever had in my life and probably why it's the size of a quarter. Of course I did not order it and I tasted my husbands and then told the waiter it was the best thing ever in the entire world....he brought out a complimentary TRIO OF ALL CHEESECAKE!!!
I just slapped them directly on my hips. So much for that salad I had just finished.:rolleyes1

I do like getting fish at dinner - anyone recommend any fish dishes or tips to get it 'healthier' at a restaurant?

I eat "healthy" at WDW because of a heart condition, so I don't have the option of just "letting it go" for a week, and then getting back to "healthy" once I get home. (I can "let it go" for about a day, before the body discovers it likes all the gorp, and starts storing it rather than just passing it through.) So from experience, my recommendation is a simple one - at each table service restaurant at which you eat, ask to speak to a chef and let them know how you're eating. They'll work with you.

I would guess maybe half the time I end up eating something that wasn't even on the menu - the chef will just say "well, I could put together a so-and-so for you, how does that sound?" Almost without exception, they sound good, but they taste good too.

Greatest experience was at Boma - first the chef took me through the entire buffet line and showed me which dishes met my needs, but then all through dinner he kept making up little dishes for me and bringing them to the table. It was an amazing dinner, and I made a point of thanking the manager and guest services for his efforts.

Never be afraid to ask. I can't speak much to counter service strategies, as my forays to the counter are quite rare. I recall there's an extensive interview at AllEars for vegetarian eating - if they discuss CS dining, they may give some strategies that would apply for healthy options as well.

LOL! :lmao: You did have good intentions, though.

Tinkerbellie - I'm also a fairly healthy eater and follow the general idea of whole grains, lots of veggies and fruit, limit processed and fried foods and trans fats, lots of lean proteins, limit unecessary sugars and refined carbs, etc. I do try to be flexible when eating out (as proven last year at the boulangerie). I don't skip dessert, ever (I do have a sweet tooth), but don't try to eat all of it.

I heartily second the suggestions here for lunch at CHH (hummus/broccoli slaw sandwich and tuna), Sunshine Seasons (salads were outstanding - the seared tuna one was amazing for a CS!), Tangierine Cafe (only place we ate twice on our trip - the veggie platter was phenomenal).

For dinner, I liked the whole fish on a bed of greens at Kouzzina, the lamb dish at The Wave was great (served over whole grains and a veggie mirepoix-type of thingy), and the buffets (Boma, Crystal Palace) while not too exciting both had lots of salad, fish, veggies (Boma had 3 types of hummus that were healthy and delish).

Anyways, I think you're one of the Poly Sept people, right? If so, we might run into each other trying to find some healthy eats!

Yes, I am a September Poly DISer! I'll definitely see you there and will be eating...somewhat healthy :) I like to balance out anything that I like to treat myself to at Disney (Ohana Bread Pudding!) with healthy choices elsewhere through out the day. I appreciate yours and everyone's input - thank you!

I think there is a sign posted by the front of the park confirming this

I did say this might be an ANTI-vacation post :) But I don't consider how I eat to be A DIET but just my EVERDAY DIET.

We chose some "healthier" options this trip, just so we didn't feel so bloated by the end of the day. For instance, most of the counter services have fruit options in place of the sides or desserts, so we chose those. We also ordered less food. We would get two entrees and split them between the three of us. Now, I still splurged now and then, but I felt better because I did cut back in some places.

The Wave at CR, Plaza at MK, and Wolfgang Puck Cafe are 3 paces we go for some healthier menu options. You can also splurge at these places if you want, but they do have some lighter options.

I planning on ordering all the grilled or broiled fish and seafood i can eat
(from the restaurants I've pick--most have a grilled seafood choice)
I cannot eat fried anything (can't digest it).

We are going for FD and have
the basic DP which comes with the desert and I'm going to ask if they have any Fresh fruit to eat for dessert--if they say no, I'm going to order the
Sorbet (I can't eat rich Ice Cream or Cheesecake at each meal--I wouldn't feel very good and talk about gaining weight).

OP--"Hi" from Arvada, CO--- Your Neighbor to the South.:yay:

Hiya! You aren't far at all! I'm currently checking out the overcast sky and wishing it wouldn't heat up to 96 this week. C'est la vie though. We are blessed with generally good weather so every now and again, it's our turn for the hot stuff :)

I lean towards salmon at many of the dining locations. They seem to make the salmon plain and then add things to make it *individual* to the restaurant. I often request no additions except a few slices of lemon...if even that!

Also you'll occasionally see a fruit and vegie cart ...but am I the only one who wishes they had MORE of them at all the parks? I love good fresh fruit and vegies as a meal OR a snack!

Great reccomendations!

I've noticed that at most of the restaurants, the vegetarian options are often more healthy.
