This Might Be A Silly Question, but...

I've seen so many pictures of little girls in princess dresses at Disneyland. They're so cute. We plan on eating at Ariel's Grotto while we're on our trip, and I'm wondering for those of you who have daughters, does it really make a difference? Do they feel extra special being in a princess dress? Do they (maybe) get a little bit of extra attention from the princesses? Is it really worth it?

If so, does your daughter wear the dress all day, or just for the meal/fantasy fair/etc.? Has it gotten in the way or uncomfortable if they have? If they only wear it for a little bit of time, did you lug it around all day?

These might sound like silly, spoiled questions, but I'm trying to think of the best ways to make this trip magical for my daughter. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I noticed that little children who do get dressed up do get the extra attention from characters, or so it seemed.

Lots of people bring a change of clothing in a small bag just in case the child gets uncomfortable and wants to change.

I haven't yet been to DL, but we did WDW last year & my daughter (5 at the time) wore her princess dresses to 3 different "character" meals that we went to. She wore them until she wanted to change (in the parks), I just knew to take other clothes. Also, she seemed to get more attention from the characters. ie: Going into a meal we saw Turk (gorilla from Tarzan), she was in line to get her pic, etc. & he kept bowing to her as she was the actual princess. She got alot of comments from the characters & even the CM's - hi princess so & so. She loved the attention! Even Chip & Dale got down on their knees & kissed her hand, etc. It was great!! I sure hope that DL is the same!

We did Ariel's grotto two weeks ago, and some of the younger girls had dresses, others did not. DD had a princess t-shirt on, she is 8 and I didn't think she wanted a dress. It didn't matter as far as attention from characters or her own reaction, as she is older. In 2005, she wore a dress to Cinderella's castle at WDW and it was special for her.We brought the dress with us to the parks and put it away in DS's stroller afterwards. I wouldn't feel bad if you don't want to bring or purchase a dress. Being at a character meal is very special and clothes become secondary. You could also just bring a tiara to get her in the princess mood.

2 years ago my girls wore snow white and Ariel, (wedding dress}. They had extra attention from every disney employee who saw them. It was very neat every ride they went on they were called princess and had extra comments. One was 3 and the other 5 at the time so they were little at the time. We have only done it once but the girls enjoyed it.

Last year they wore outfits that had the princesses on them and Cinderella commented about how nice it was to see her picture on the clothes. I think it was very nice.

My dd will only wear a princess dress to go to DL or WDW. She is a bit odd in that she stays in them all day regardless of weather. August in WDW is hot and humid but she still wants to keep the dress on.

All the cms do comment on the princess outfit and my dd loves the comments. As for the characters she enjoys the attention she gets. Whomever she is dressed as that day always give her extra attention.

My dd wears a princess dress each time we go for each day. She brings them all so she can switch each day. She does sometimes take them off because they can become itchy even though she wears them over clothes. We just put it in the locker for the rest of the day or if she changes her mind we go back and get it.

She does seem to get more attention from the characters and CM's which is too cute!

Okay, thanks everyone. I think it would be fun for her to wear a princess dress, but my husband read the thread and said, "Heck, no! I'm not toting around a girl in a dress or just a dress all day!" We'll see if I can change his mind.

Plus, I've sewn all of her fancy dresses so far, so I was thinking of either just having her wear one of her princess dresses that don't look like Disney princess dresses, or making a dress out of light weight material that won't be uncomfortable for her.

All in all, princess or not, I think she'll be thrilled just to be in Disneyland.

Target sells some of the Disney princess dress-up outfits that are pretty light-weight (they are a cheaper quality than the ones at Disney store). My DD has a sleeping beauty one that came from a box kit -- is has a skirt you pull up and the top has velcro in the back. You can even slip in on over her clothes -- then just take it off whenever.
Even if they just wear a crown, the princesses usually comment on it. My girls had been to the Once Upon a Time princess shop and bought some jewelery there (necklace, bracelet, crown)-- and the princesses were very sweet to comment about it when we went to Ariel's.
They are great about making the little girls feel special! princess:
