This may not be a popular opinion, but why is CA so insistent on getting Polanski??

He's in another country and will NEVER be able to step foot in the US again, or he faces a trial. So why not just leave him be? CA is already bankrupt. Bringing him back here for a trial is only going to cost the state money they don't have.

If Switzerland wants to keep him, then let them! I realize the charges against him are very serious, and if it had been my daughter, I would want justice. But, he is not a threat to anyone in the US right now, so we can either put him in prison, or let him stay out of the country for the rest of his life. It's cheaper for us to just let him stay away.

Because he's a rapist pig who used his money and influence to flee the country and avoid paying for his crimes?

Justice is a good enough reason for me. Living in Switzerland does not equate living in prison.

If we applied that logic, we wouldn't go after anyone who commits a crime and leaves the country.

Since the victim has requested numerous times to have the entire case dropped, our state continues to spend taxpayer dollars on this 30+ year old case. If the victim wants nothing to do with the court case anymore, doesn't it seem strange that the prosecuter refuses to drop it?

Only if its a civil case.

That's how I feel. The victim doesn't want it pursued. It seems that the prosecutor wants to be the one who puts Polanski away.

I hate him and I hope he gets what is due him and I work in "Hollywood." The victim doesn't really have a say in what is legal or illegal, right?

Plus, she was too young at the time. Now that she's older, I'm sure she just wants it all behind her and wants to get on with her life. Each time this comes up in the press, I'm sure she is hounded. I would say the same thing she is saying.

Polanski struck a deal with prosecutors (there would have been no jail time) but fearing the presiding judge would not honor that deal he fled the country. So he admitted his crime and has had NO punishment for it.

The victim wants the press to leave her alone, if Polanski had served his time 30 years ago, we would NOT be talking about him or her today. This is all his doing.

My concern, what if this still going on with him but in a different country. He still needs to posecuted for his actions. Jo

Ok, let's say he is extradited. He comes home and has to go to trial.

after 30+ years, finally a trial. The witnesses are all 30+ years older. The defense attorney is going to attack the accuracy of their memory. Let's also remember he is a rich celebrity. We all know how the trials of rich celebrities turn out.

If Robert Blake was found not guilty...COME ON! So now, here is Polanski back in the US after 30+ years to face the music. Chances are very good he will be found...NOT guilty. So now what? He will never be charged for that crime again and now he is free to live in the US. To have access to OUR children.

I don't believe he would be found guilty. What, with all the support he has from the Hollywood community? It will be a circus. If there was a chance he would go to prison, I say drag him back. But that's is not going to happen, and as long as he is a fugitive, is cannot come back here.

I don't get your logic. He's probably raping kids in Switzerland, do you feel badly for them?

By your logic any criminal should just jump the border and not be extradited.

I didn't think there would be a trial. I thought he just needed sentanced.

I think some are forgetting he drugged a child and raped her.

Like I said in a prior post- he admitted what he had done and struck a sentencing deal with the prosecutor. I too was under the impression there would be no trial.

that's my take.

So,we bring him back here to be jailed in our system. We then are responsible for his medical care and his incarceration costs. He is a celebrity, so no general population for him. Add up the costs and at his age, it is better to ban him from our soil. There is no perfect way to conclude his case, as the costs are too excessive.

Actually, justice being served is the perfect way to conclude this case.
